But I've always assumed authority transfer is harped on about not because the transfer is super hard per se, but because the implications are bad if it's not totally robust etc.

(And this didn't look that robust )

Yes, especially when dealing with stuff that involves thousands of entities in real time all being communicated across networks with different latencies and potential packet loss.

It's a time sensitive task. Most is, lol, but this is time sensitive of a "what you see is what you get"-type. If you keep getting what you don't see - you know the kind in MP - you maybe try out another server, browse your router settings, light a candle at the altar of infinite internet and if nothing helps you play something else.

Don't forget to check that you have a swapfile and have it installed on a SSD!

Can a development literate person enlighten me? Is CIG fancying up basic development milestones and goals by rehashing them as 'tech' to make it sound like they invented the wheel, hence the long development cycle?

I haven't a notion about development, but sometimes they are like 'We are currently working on hand held weapon system reloading tech' when describing the reloading of a weapon in game and it just strikes me as odd. Specifically their mention of 'physicalised water' tech or something like that, as if having moving water in a game is a new technology.

I haven't a notion about development, but sometimes they are like 'We are currently working on hand held weapon system reloading tech' when describing the reloading of a weapon in game and it just strikes me as odd. Specifically their mention of 'physicalised water' tech or something like that, as if having moving water in a game is a new technology.

Yes, they have been pulling bogus explanations from their rear for a decade. They make it up as they go.

I always assumed it was bullspeak but I was watching that guy saltymike on yt out of boredom, and he seems like a bit of a c u c k punching above his weight, but he was all 'wow' and 'this looks amazing', and so on, and I was asking myself how he could pose as such an authority on how it should or shouldn't be for the game, yet was so oblivious to the bullspeak. Not to mention how he poses as such a hard critic and is apparently 'salty' but turns into a wet noodle if CIG mention his name or make more promises. He literally cried during his first reaction to the server meshing presentation. It had me second guessing and asking myself what on earth where they really showing us and why were they presenting it as 'tech'.
