Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Because that demo has shown literally nothing. You have three servers running locally and they need to reach consensus on which one is taking care of an object? Really? That's it? This is Tony Z. level of bull manure, where they had "the simulation with millions of agents running on a local machine" for almost a decade.

And, of all things, they picked a wrong database without testing it first under a realistic load.

Are you not hyped? 😁

I suspect that if the areas that individual servers control are sufficiently large, such as a whole planet and surrounding orbit and satellites, or a big chunk of a given system etc (say 3 or 4 servers per system) then all these problems would not be that much of an issue. The problems would become much more obvious in smaller partitions, i.e. big battles or large concentration of players in a smaller area, capital ships etc where the boundaries between servers become very active game zones. And even worst if the partitions become dynamic.

I suspect CIG will definitely try to implement the "large zone" version of static server meshing. That could be feasible. And will stay there for a looooong time. And even that one will probably cause issues when transitioning boundaries.

Yep most likely. The demo event just suggested:

* They're nowhere close to handling granular / 'Dynamic meshing' style scenarios.

* The use of such scenarios for Citcon, and the 'We did it!' jumping around, may have given fans a different impression...

200 players on the two systems. On average you should have 100 players by system but if everyone want to go to Pyro, you'll have 200 players in Pyro.

Nope. The static SM system will still be limited by player count per server, according to CIG's plans.

They don't currently have a solution for this. The leading suggestions back in 2021 was to gate areas that were full, or to create new 'layers' for such regions. (IE instancing presumably...).

Unfortunately the Room System, which Chris says has been in the game for half a decade and is designed to do that, cannot do that.
That system tried to kill me often enough. Contrary to common wisdom, I rarely put on armor and helmet, so I might be more in danger of the void pockets.

Sometimes my health drops 20% just entering an elevator. Usually, it magically recovers a little later, though. When I log out in my ship's bed, I might come back with only 60% health. Whenever I visit Lagville, my arm gets stuck in the raised position even back in the ship cockpit, blocking the view on vital HUD information.

I can't wait for them to fix it :)

When in space, you always wear a suit.

I must have missed that part. Citation needed. Or are you just theorycrafting again?

Always said by CIG. Armor have/will have bonus and limitations (encumbrance, storage points, maneuverability, damage reduction, stamina consumption, oxygen reserve, temperature/radiation protection).
For now, almost every malus of armors are not taken into account. I can seat in the pilot seat of an Aurora with a Pembroke armor and a backpack. In the future, it will not possible. A lot of single seater ships are intended to be only flyable wearing a flying suit.

Note, in 3.21, it's the first time you can wear a weapon and ammunition with only an undersuit.

I'm not sure it's artificial intelligence we should be worrying about ;)

Single-seat fighters don't have any interiors that could catch fire, do they? I don't know, I don't fly them.
And as you quoted, I could put on a flight suit and helmet and vent the ship before I take off.

[heavy armor in the cockpit]
In the future, it will not possible
I'll believe it when it's in the game.

Wait what? Your ship weapons will do less damage and engines will be less manouvearabale, because you're wearing a heavy helmet inside a small ship? Do I understand this correctly?

The damage your armor can take in FPS fight (heavy armor can take more bullets than light armor), the maneuverability (jump, run, etc) when your wear your armor, etc
