Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Ah, thanks for the info. I must've been very unlucky as I tried twice :D Didn't know about this SOI business so that explains it. In he end I remote jumped the carrier and caught up with it later.

On a slightly related related note, I've just created another video of Tyres doing his thing in his favourite high CZ layout... although the payout this time around wasn't exactly spectacular. There were a couple of glitches that could have worked to my advantage: points Charlie and Echo are/were never taken or even attempted by the enemy. Once these points were both up for capture, no other points became "open".

I could have just whittled the bad guys' progress bar down by shooting them all but that would've taken quite some time. Although the payout would have been something to behold :D

Also, it was a pity it wasn't in daylight but hey ho.

It’s live in Full HD now - nice video, good job on the CZ!
I liked the inclusion of loadout & some external cam scenery too :)

The thing is the immense file sizes involved.

After I had to wait nearly a day for my last CZ to upload, I decided to down the resolution to 1920x1080 (no more 4K!). It was still 21.4GB (that is gigabytes - ) for a 26 minute video. Holy snapping duckpoo. 1hr 41 to upload. And then the Toob needs to process it.

That’s quite a file size for about 30mins 1080p FullHD - might want to try tweaking the settings while recompressing it - still, that upload time for 20GeeBee’s makes me a bit envious :]

There have been videos of someone sitting in their SRV outside of a station, close to the mailslot...
No clue how they did it, though. Probably found some kind of glitch that allowed them to land on the outer hull of the station...
It is possible with practise and some helpful friends to jump an SRV onto the top of a ship and ride it into space.

People have then flown the SRV to a neighbouring world and descend towards its surface I forget if landing was possible.

They have also flown them to a station and even through the slot but as I recall there were problems with the rotation once inside.

This was a long time before Odyssey so no interiors.

Didn't know it was there already! :D

Here's the link if anyone has time to kill:

Now, I need to work on that sound. I'm using OBS to record the video but I think my audio settings are either way too high or too low. It sounds oddly choppy and lacks bass - it is much better when I'm playing.

Hmm. A mini-project then.

One thing the video shows is just how accurate the NPC's are with their 'nades. Grr.

The audio does sound a bit tinny / metallic - might have been to do with recompression - ie: the output audio data rate might be a bit low?

I also use OBS and on the standard setting (it's called "High Quality" iirc, with even higher settings available, though this really is fine for game RECs) it uses about 10GB per hour of 3440x1440p footage at 30fps... what app are you using for recompression - and how does the output size compare to the original file size?

Apparently the NPC's have a remote-detonation control - my 'nades typically bounce about a bit before randomly taking out the nearest barrel or data terminal, etc :D

In other news, I made a bit of a pilgrimage back to Legacy this week - I've not logged in to Horizons/Beyond much since Odyssey, but decided to try an experiment in nostalgia, happy hotspot hunting ...and earning some extra Arx :]

[this REC has some of my in-game playlist music, as it's mixed through my PC from my phone and then fed to my headset, with OBS recording the mix - though so far YouTube has just noted that and allowed it - hope the audio doesn't still get zapped at some stage...🤞]

Um... er...

Recompression? Right... I have no idea 😄 All I did was record and upload. Seems I need an OBS tutorial...

What program do you use to record with? I had to fuss with OBS a bit to get file sizes decent, without being too, too large. Maybe I can help if you use OBS.

Ok, you do use OBS, so here's my settings. 1 hour 15 minutes of recording uses about 18GB. I don't know if that's any better than what you're getting, and I'm no expert in OBS, but this has worked well enough for me. Then again most of my videos are fairly short :)

I mostly went with Advanced settings so I could turn on the Replay Buffer :p

Watch out for MKV output - it makes quite big files! I get lower GB results with MP4, though apparently this means losing the ability to recover/continue the REC if there's a game or PC crash... might also be needed if you're using Replay?

Thanks for that. I'll have a play around. I did have a look at the sound options but can't see anything obvious yet.

Fun fact: Youtube will not play anything above 1080p for free accounts, so capturing in any format above that is a complete waste of time and effort. Even when you upload a 2k or 4k video, it is downscaled to 1080 unless you have a premium account.

I've always just used the built in Windows recorder. It's always done just fine.
It will typically default to 1080p max on desktop and 720p on mobile - but you can up it to full quality in the player settings ;]

I went back to the CZ I was in yesterday. This time, it was during the day \o/

Echo and Charlie finally came online and no other popped up. It was then a case of just chopping away at the bad boys - my 9mCR from last time turned into 16mCR tis time. Think I'll go back again...
