Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

So with the Peccary out of the way, so goes the number 1 contender for a Latin American animal pack ungulate pick. I think it's likely we will see at least one ungulate in this pack if it is to happen so I guess the question is which species and there is four main options:
  1. Tapir - The lowland tapir is a very common and iconic zoo animal however some may think it is too similar to the Baird's tapir we already have. There is also the possibility this is how the Malayan tapir finally gets fixed but I'm unsure about that. We could also get the mountain tapir instead but I doubt it.
  2. Peccary - Yes we did just get one but we can't rule out a second one. The other two species are at least visually distinct and could be another good "filler" species though I imagine nobody is really craving for one after today.
  3. Camelid - This is probably going to be the most popular option, either the Guanaco or Vicuña... Both are common zoo animals and iconic plus Patagonia is the region which most sorely needs representation. Could help mend the disappointment some had with the llama back in 2020. I guess the alpaca is possible too but after last time I think Frontier would go for a wild species.
  4. Deer - There is quite a lot of deer species from Latin America however the majority of them are basically non existent in zoos. If we get a deer I think there is two main possibilities. Firstly the White-Tailed Deer which spans across a huge portion of the Americas and works well as a generic deer for the whole region. Second is the Southern Pudu which is unique in that it is a small deer native to the Temperate forests of Chile.
What ungulate would you want the most? For me I think it has to be either the Guanaco or Vicuña but to be honest I think I'd be pretty happy with almost any of these.

Tapir? Bairds tapir is enough, Peccary? Ones more than enough, Deer? Pudu is cool but the white Tailed is like basically another fallow deer. Camelid though - vicuna definitely. A wild camelid is exactly what I need.

I really dont need another peccary or tapir (especially since some of the most likely contenders like chacoan or brazilian look basicly identical imo)
A wild camelid wouldnt be the worst thing, but personally im not really to keen on them.
So im definetly in the deer camp. Specifically in the southern pudu camp, it would add the most to the game imo

not a deer since while yes they are in central and south america they are more iconic of eurasia and north america and deer would be of better use to those continents also since we now have a peccary we dont really need another one
but the idea of including another camelid is good especially if its the wild versions and we could do with another more south american tapir so the mountatin or brazilian tapir.

We need no more than 1 ungulate if its a scenery or 2 if its an animal pack because we already have so many ungulates ingame even though they are a very diverse group of animals south and central america are a great way to balance the currently ungulate heavy roster with other mammals.

Scenery pack is better for SA. Yes maybe the continent needs more, but frontier doesn’t go by what we think all the time. They go by their own rules. And if their decision gets us Brazil themed scenery, I will take that happily.

As for the other discussion at hand, I would take the peccary out since we got it and let the Mara take over (assuming it’s a scenery pack).

the pudu is meh same level as all the ungulates for me
The pudu would be our first small deer.

I mean come on that’s adorable ask anyone.

Marsh deer for me. They are visually striking and have webbed feet to help them be fast swimmers. There is an adorable video on YouTube of a maned wolf playing with a marsh deer. (

) Now I want maned wolf and marsh deer mixed exhibits.

The pudu and/or white tailed are also good choices for deer. I do think SA should get at least one deer, but my main focus for ungulates is Asia and caprines right now.

A guanaco or vicuña would be nice. I tend to lean towards the former because I like its darker face. I can use the llama for mixed habitats with the rhea and mara, assuming they're added. While one would be nice to have, I don't need it as much as a deer. For the moment, SA has what it needs most for ungulates, though.

Agreed on the first part, second part ehhhhhh
I think it should be. A South American theme can already kinda be done with the in-game pieces; we really don't need a theme revolved around Brazil...
Except the music.
But, considering how much people generally agree is missing from this region, an animal pack would really satisfy the needs of a lot of people; those who desire a lot, especially some extra monkeys and filler animals, and those who have a few wants...
But it's south america! It's totally different rules for animals there 😂
True, true, you win this round, Cap
I also want a deer from India or South east asia, and wouldn't mind one from east asia.
Definitely. And also 1 antelope from India, specifically the blackbuck, please

Same here. Chital would probably be the best option given they're easily the most common in zoos (plus another fairly iconic species for India, which we haven't gotten in a hot minute), though I'd also be happy with Indian hog deer, sambar or Javan rusa. Only temperate deer I'm still keen for are Reeves' muntjac and southern pudu, otherwise I'd prefer a tropical species.
