Seems Elite Dangerous will be continued!

It tickles me that people seek to belittle others for putting forward information.
It is amusing - you are not the first, nor, no doubt will you be the last, to post shares information in a game forum.
I have several copies of EDO, the stock market isn't going to affect how much I have already spent, is it?
Frontier may be on the verge of collapse - who knows in this here game forum - nobody, I assume. Although speculation is always entertaining. But it still makes no difference - my money (and yours) has already been spent - we have all had use of a product with a known finite life - unless, naturally, one bought games as an investment, which seems highly unlikely.
Customers are "stakeholders" - particularly so when the product depends on the state of the company.
No, they are just folk who spent a small amount of money for a product, and have use of it for a finite period.

ETA: I also drive a car (quite a nice one) but don't consider it makes me a "stakeholder" - just a customer who gave them money for a limited life product.

The problem was they priced it too high.
Along with every other games studio with more than a handful of staff...
Never mind, I didn't buy it either - but then, I don't have one of the games in your RTS list from steam so it isn't aimed at folk like me.
Why worry - either FD will sink or swim, making a fuss about their failures is fun, I'm sure, but no matter how vehemently you illustrate their failings, it will make no real difference bar that warm feeling of self-satisfaction, which is such a fleeting thing...

Nope, none of that was fun for me.. i want Fdev to succeed purely so that I can continue to enjoy Elite.

Like I said. I was doing it to prove my point. I was told I had no basis for my assertions. I provided them and my reasoning. Whatever conclusions people come to after that is up to them. But if my reasoning is attacked I'll defend it. And in the case of me being wrong, I'll recant. I see no reason to now thus far though.

But what was the point? It isn't as if FD have been producing blockbusters with every release.
I know it flopped, you know it flopped - and most importantly they know it flopped...

Someone in their management structure has made one too many errors, apparently, but, from the almost 7 years I've played ED it has seemed that is par for the course and unlikely to change.

All we, as players, can do, is sit on the sidelines and hope that something changes for the positive -personally I'm not optimistic about that, but reckon EDO will still have at least a year of play left in it - if I'm wrong, I'm wrong...

We were supposed to have the 17.01 patch by the end of this month... All has been quiet (as usual) on the Western Front since Sally went - and she had minimal contact here for many months...

Well if frontier are going back to three+ teams, they're going to have to shed half their workforce or more? Probably best to wait for the dust to settle before expecting anything new.

Look, im installing legacy for possibly one last hurrah. No expectations, and no gross problems. Just to fly around one more time with nothing but being in space. I have enough arx for an on sale ship kit might as well use it :)

I know that too, and I have never said otherwise, just for the record. The issue in our little argument lied elsewhere ;)
There's also mitigating circumstances, its coincided with the eagerly awaited release of GW's revamped Epic 40K (Legions Imperialis), for some of us its going to be an expensive Chrimbo :ROFLMAO:

You should read the reviews from the best to the worst which should give you an idea what the problem is.
Simple reality is it is not a traditional RTS and they quite fussy over there in WH land.
It seemed very traditional considering how one of the other popular Warhammer RTS games (other than Total War of course) was Dawn of War which while being 40k also used control points. That style of RTS and Warhammer isn't really my thing, but I assumed it had a chance to do ok based on that.

I watched Day9 play it and it seemed to be very well made and presented, but also does some bizarre things like not having unit stats like hp/damage listed anywhere which would make sense if they wanted to make it more casual, but it's also really off putting to the core audience.

The part about hiding unit stats also parallels Elite with many obfuscated mechanics behind the scenes where you have to trust them that it works and is balanced such that effort is rewarded and not wasted. The thargoid war is a good recent example of that. Ultimately it's just condescending towards the players in a systems-driven game and robs some of the fun. That sort of design philosophy might work well for those creative management sims though where it's more about expression through gameplay than the numbers.

You can always find reasons to worry about the future if you think long term and FDev hasn't done anything to ease those fears or build hype for the future. Those things can have quite an impact - like how Elite got quite a big bump in player numbers right after the odyssey announcement.

In these troubled times, some good news at the start of this week! 🚀

O7,
🙃
We clearly have read different things. Because the 4 successfull game do not include ED.
In fact they put ED together with Realms of Ruins - which failed miserably in steam sales: https://steamdb.info/app/1844380/charts/

So i don't see how putting ED in the same category as other dead game is a good thing.

Well elite is firs in the list of miserable games, so that's something. Looking at the graphs the revenue for elite is basically flat, so its making as much as it costs or there abouts, maybe a very slight profit.

Yeah everything else is hindsight. As always the logic that given we paid for frontier to blow their money on failures, it makes sense that had they kept attention on elite they would have kept making the same level of revenue with elite as well. Apart from the failing miserably part, if you were brabes you probably would just think they are in the same position they started in except elite has been replaced by jurassic world evolution, with a planet zoo cherry on top? Apart from elite being a casualty probably doesn't look that bad not considering shareholders.

@Disemboweled Ego
Yep, but there is that divide in the WH community... they can be a bit pernickity and a bit like here.
It all seems very similar to what happened in this game in the early days. The community divided itself and when things were released. they didn't appease either side.
AOS:ROR falls into that because it doesn't seem to know what it wants to be, casual or dediated... like there's two competing schools of thought going on.
They may have to choose one and stick to it for it to work.

As for .Elite, I think we'll have a better idea as to what is happening soon enough... well hopefully.

Team 17 also had a bruising report this year as well. It seems that (just like FD) a lot of risky but potentially lucrative bets did not pay off.

The December livestream with info on 'the feature'* will certainly be interesting to see where FD go with ED, and to what level. Does less games mean moar ED focus?

Those who know, are not speaking.

I bought a new car in 2006, and have been driving it since. There are still parts to be had only from the manufacturer, so, I have a stake in the companies existence. Note: I won't be buying a Tesla anytime soon... :)
