Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

Easy. BIRDS.
Accepting that it will not be the case is the easiest way to avoid high frustration Levels about other picks. It is too much expense making them at the end I think. Perhaps a Grey Crowned Crane or a Secretary Bird will happen next year. If we are lucky something like a Pelican if they want to go the extra mile one time for a bird. But I would not expect much more than that.

I will keep expecting a full habitat birds pack anyways. And a bird in every DLC.

Now that I think... everything points to be an Eurasia thingy but... long claws, black coat, and the back babies? 👀

Most of the hints could definitely be a tamandua or a sloth bear. But they do mention the shaggy, soft fur and that they only saw it eating termites (and sloth bears are primarily insectivores).

The shaggy fur kinda rules out the tamandua, IMHO.

EDIT: And I really wanted it to be a tamandua instead of the sloth bear.

I just don’t understand why people Just can’t simply be happy we are still getting support for the game. For me that constant support indicates that more content would come in the future so everyone could get animals they want.
So I understand that opinion, without continued love and support we won’t have a chance of getting any animals we love. I still think it’s fine for people to discuss what animals they want or not, people are allowed to be disappointed in some aspects of the pack. Even if that aspect of the pack is something you personally love. We are all fans of the game and paying customers just as much as you are, it’s not possible for thousands of people to all 100% agree on something. Which isn’t the same as wishing for support to end!

I can explain why I personally may not be all too excited for the pack so far: if I haven’t made it obvious I love birds. To be honest my favorite animals are whales, followed by birds. Now I love all animals, so I am excited that the Wolverine, Takin, Saiga, and Sloth bear are coming to Planet Zoo! My issue is that some of my favorite places to visit in zoos are waterfowl ponds and aviaries. I lost hope on getting flying birds. So far I have no clue why I couldn’t get waterfowl. I just want to make a duck pond, and I have been hoping to make one. FOR YEARS. I still buy the DLCs, because I want and love all animals and wish to support frontier. But, I am getting very frustrated. As a customer I wish to make my opinion known so they know what I wish to pay for. Literally all I want is a duck. I’ll take any other birds I can get. But I really want a duck. It’s not even a super hard animal to program, a duck is probably easier to make than the gibbon brachiation.

For bird nerds like me, we are used to getting maybe at best two birds a year? The amount of ungulates we got this year alone is equal to the amount of birds I have got to play with since launch of the game in 2019. That’s not even including the new ones “confirmed” like the saiga and takin. So it’s not that I don’t think ungulates aren’t cool, they are super cool! It’s that I’m getting tired of the pack diversity. All mammals, usually ungulates or carnivores. If we are lucky we might get another rodent or primate. If you love reptiles or birds you don’t get too much, maybe 1-2 things a year. At least reptile people might get an exhibit box animal.

I am so happy to put the foot in my mouth, depending on what is announced tomorrow morning I am absolutely hoping to be wrong. All the negative talk can definitely be exhausting, personally I think it would be good if we wait to see what the full pack is like. Same with the upcoming free update. I know Frontier is hard at work! I love the company! But I am allowed to feel upset about how the way packs are being made. How can we have a tropical pack with no birds? Maybe next years dlc will be more diverse, and I am here waiting!

I'm realy looking forward to seeing if they are adding the animation of the bear carrying the babies and if they apply it to old animals:

Interesting that each of the 4 teased animals are from different Asian regions. Maybe we get something from Western Asia and South East Asia too? Although the arid and tropical packs brought animals from those missing regions. Maybe they complete the pack making it an Eurasia pack with:

1 animal from Southern Europe
1 animal from Western Europe
1 animal from Eastern Europe
(the wolverine works for Northern Europe)

The livestreams always bring more questions than answers :ROFLMAO:
I really think it's just going to be an Asia Pack. There's no reason to overcomplicate the name with rhetoric that most people don't use. I'm thinking they are just trying to represent regions in Asia that haven't been represented as well as Southeast Asia. The most straightforward way to go about that would just be "Asia". It could be Eurasia, but since 3 out of the 4 animals teased are endemic to Asia, I'm doubtful.

I will keep expecting a full habitat birds pack anyways. And a bird in every DLC.
You can do whatever you want. But with honest words the frustration is pre-programmed. With a realistic view on the thing we will get further animals to built up the current rooster with 1-2 exceptions per Pack. That is what I think will follow. Hoping for Something (which surely is okay) is another Thing than expecting that Something will happen at the end.

The shaggy fur kinda rules out the tamandua, IMHO.
Fortunately.
My unpopular opinions: I don't want a monkey, I don't want a wild boar, I really happy about the Sloth Bear.
Monkeys will get their day, I'm certain of that. Wild boars, I think are good anytime but after peccary AND RRH. I'm kind of sick of pigs. sorry, I said it.
I'm sick of pigs.
Yes, you can say you're sick of canids. which I get. You just have to remember few have pet pigs and nearly everyone is graced with a dog in their family! ALSO, IMO dogs are all so different from each other. Pigs are pigs are pigs.

I promise I'm not trying to argue or be inflammatory, but I'm asking if there is a source. The most recent thing I can find is that as of 2017 the captive saiga population was 4 in a zoo in Kazakhstan and some living in a breeding center, as well as a semi wold population.
My bad, the 6 other zoos i had in mind are wild life breeding centers, 2 in russia, 1 kasachstan, 1 ukraine, 2 in china.

But saigas have actually broken through the old problems of keeping them, with their husbandry guidelines (atleast those publicly available) being last updated 2017.
I also found statements about the zoo frankfurt in germany and the san diego zoo that both are interested in keeping them

Alright, I sat with this some more, so some initial thoughts:

I preface I have no ducking clue what the theme is.

Wolverine - nowhere on my wishlist, but I'm not selfish or stupid enough to act like this is a bad choice. A longtime community favorite, a ZT2 holdover, very strong pick.
Takin - My only concern is it somewhat fills the niche set out by the markhor, which is a Top 10 animal for me, but again, it can't act like I don't see the HUGE community appeal.
Saiga - I'm indifferent to it, but I know its lack of presence in real zoos as well as the over abundance of hoofstock is gonna make some folks mad.
Sloth Bear - a fun one! lol I 100% thought it was an opossum when they said it was carrying its young on its back.

Ultimately, the remaining animals will make or break this pack for me. There's no "OMG KIWI AND PENGUIN, YES YES, YES, HALLELUJAH" levels of jubilance, or "are they seriously going back to the terrariums with this dumb af viper" levels of disappoitment.
It all depends on the final four.

Preach.

All in all none of the animals are bad, but there is a certain frustration that Frontier snubbed other regions and animals which are in much higher demand. The sloth bear and saiga have a certain uniqueness that i would like to see in the game.

I will always have somekind of issue with any pack which doesn't include the tree kangaroo, coati, fully aquatic animals or flying birds. Maybe the walkthrough exhibit animal will be interesting, I just hope it isn't a normal exhibit animal which doesn't move at all and just sits in a corner like they always do.
