Planet Zoo: Eurasia Animal Pack arriving 13 Dec ❄️

I think the issue for american players is that when it comes to animals like wild boar and other hoofstock we have them here in the wild. It's not interesting to us since the vast majority of our megafauna doesn't really exist anymore in North America. Not animals like the saiga or takin but to americans they're kind of just meh. In fact we have so many wild boar here that they're destroying our ecosystems on the northeast and southeast of the half country. They're the antithesis of conservation. Funny enough nine banded armadillos are becoming more prolific here as well and have managed to migrate from central america all the way to the southern half of south carolina and are expected to move as far north as virginia in the next decade or so but that's a whole other discussion.
I think when it comes down to adding animals a lot of american players and more casual players in general are getting bored of every pack being hoofstock and cats. There are plenty of other mammal groups to pull from like primates, viverrids, marsupials, and mustalids that could use some love and don't get me started on reptiles, inverts and birds. Don't get me wrong frontier does a great job with the animal models but the game is entirely oversaturated with mammals as it is.
This is kind of funny because it exaggerates the American-centric view and tries to make it out as unique. North America has more megafauna than South America, Europe, Oceania, the Middle East, North Africa and East Asia. It's only really behind sub-Saharan Africa and South/Southeast Asia. We all have our 'local roadkill' species too but don't complain. But my lord when that racoon and that skunk were released. It was like the apocalypse had arrived....

One of the big reasons I'm a big believer in a Daylight Pack featuring diurnal animals and 200+ plants instead of building pieces... current animal list being:
  • Northwestern Blackbuck
  • Grey Crown Crane
  • South American Coati
  • Howler Monkey -OR- Spider Monkey (Either way, a colorful species would be preferable)
  • Butterflies x5
200 plants and some much neded animals for the game, id buy this in a heartbeat.
I much preffer plants over new building sets anyways.
i also want more unique props
Talking about trees, I hope the update has some foliage too, especially the silver birch. I know we have similar birch trees from North America, but the silver birch is so common in Eurasia that I want it.
id want a eurasian birch species so much, theres a lot of trees from all over we could use, i ofthen feel some areas animals i always use the same ahdnfull of plants/trees.
also anyone else feels sometimes the trees we get are like mega ancient versions instead of a more semi-realistic size for a zoo? i wouldnt mind if some of our mega plants also had some more younger specimens.
It's super interesting to read the reactions to this pack. Especially some of the American centric views, contrasting with views like mine (European). I always feel like European animals are somehow unimportant. For instance, the American bison is the go-to bison species, not the Wisent. Bighorn sheep, not Mouflon. Wapiti, not red deer. Like that. So I am extremely happy that in PZ we are actually getting European wildlife! It is absolutely amazing.

Wild boar may be pests in some parts of the world, but in Eurasia they are a forest staple and historically important in many cultures. I think with this pack, the European wildlife is as good as done. The only wants I would have now are smaller animals such as the red squirrel and brown hare. And the European brown bear, but honestly I don't want another brown bear if it has to come in a DLC (the Himalayan brown bear should 100% have been a Eurasian brown bear in the base game......)

So now, I can make a European zoo with all European animals! For instance, I can make a Dutch zoo that has Red deer and Fallow deer, Red foxes and Badgers, Lynx, Swans, Wisents, Wolves, and Grey seals. That is an entire full fledged zoo right there! I never would have thought that would happen when I bought the game when it released all those years ago. ❤️ I feel very grateful.

Also I very much appreciate the inclusion of the Saiga, which is not only a much needed first Asian antelope, but also a unique antelope species in and of itself of a unique lineage, and in need of conservation. I am planning to include them often, and think they would pair excellently with Przwalski horses and perhaps Bactrian camels. They've already become my favorite antelope and they're not even officially released yet!

Just wanted to post this as a positive message and major thanks to the development team at Frontier 💕
There were whole pod casts and several videos of north american content creators telling us europeans to "shut up" when it comes to european wildlife because "it is boring" and "they only have a deer, a deer and another deer." Some of them I actually considered almost friends back then but the europe hate got so "funny" to them, that I turned my back on them, because I was tired of being good enough to show support through watching and liking content and even have YT channel memberships, but not good enough to get animal wild life in a zoo game. Only one of several had the decency to apologise to me months later (which I appreciate very much) and has then changed their view on european animals and stopped the gate keeping. Because, news flash: Every continent deserves their wildlife respresented.
Or even their zoo life. In a way, the europe hate even went on with the twilight pack, because they did not want their own "road kill animals", and the fact that those are perfectly fine zoo animals for us was - again - not enough.
The europe hate also took on some ridicolous connotations back then, such as clearly believing the moose is more important to canada than it is to sweden. :ROFLMAO: The arrogance knew no limits back then.

Things eased down a lot since then, but it's still visible in the Brown Bear discussion. No, it is not a way of "just using the himalayan brown bear" just as it is not "simpy using the asian black bear". I think as a community we would all profit from getting off our high horse and be happy for each other when they get animals they need for a good home zoo representation. (Doesn't mean I will advocate for, say, the snub nose monkey until we get monkey of more world wide repsresentation, but it does mean that eventually I'd be happy for others, if it were included).

That said, I do personally really enjoy NA wildlife, which makes the european hate from some NA players sting even more and why I expect more respect - I show it as well.
Its whats annoys me too, and dont get me wrong, I adore american wildlife aswell, but the european versions always get put on the sidelines, especially by big creators and it always kind of hurts? like our wildlife isnt valid, only theirs. yet when american species do get in its suddenly not good.
Raccoons, skunks and other small ""road-kill"" species i see at zoos here, its been more then 10 years ago i finaly saw raccoons at a zoo and i was so inlove. so seeing them added to PZ made me super happy, yet the americans were upset? Twilightpack gave quite a few super interesting american smaller wildlife, thats pretty unique.

the whole bear discussion aswell, im glad were getting slothbear and such but the 2 brownbears we got are.. not what id see here? i dont mind. but HBB are quite rare and Grizzleys while famous are still diffrent. same way for americans a formosian bear wont replace their black bear, atleats you could argue to opt for mods instead. but seeing official versions will always make people the happiest.

I totaly get you on how it stings when they hate on europe wildlife while we enjoy NA wildlife.
from NA id still like to see a snapping turtle (habitat! they get huge! and we need an aquatic species!) a whitetailed deer and the opossum?

- What a gorgeous and fascinating Animal! Can't wait to put my hands on them!
it looks beautifull, i wonder if theres good variants coming aswell

this aswell.

unrelated I hope we get slothbear today.

Actually, I'm thinking, but imagine a DLC called the Garden pack. It has 200+ pieces revolved around plants, like plants (who knew?)
Animals could be butterflies, hedgehogs, deer from another continent, some kinda musteloid

The animal roster might be a little weak, but the scenery could make up for it

I was like the pale one is beautiful! But I also like the black ones and the red one is  So, I hope we get all the wolverines!
For me continents' wildlife would go something along the lines of Africa> Asia >> South America >> North America ~ Europe> Antarctica (Australia is soooo unique I don't even know where to put it)... But there is the disclaimer that, although not "exotic" some of the North American animals I still adore and want in game! I don't know its hard to explain... The ranking is based on colors and uniqueness and exotic... not necessarily how much I love each continent's wildlife...
And Finally, I hope we get to see the Sloth Bear today!

as much i love the boar, I was hoping for the sloth bear today, im super interested in seeing that.
seeing the boar (again) was a bit of a let down for today, especially since yesterday was another repeat animal aswell.

still happy with the boars though, dont get me wrong.

The takin and sloth bear are the animals I'm looking forward to the most so the anticipation definitely is killing me! I'm really curious to see how their fur looks, it must have been a challenge to get it to look right. Hopefully it'll be a screenshot with a baby on its mothers back! Also, the boar looks great!

RIGHT! I bet we will see the sloth bear, on Monday! Since the YT video probably embargo releases on Tuesday...
Speaking of which...it's weird this pack is coming out on a Wednesday. I wonder why.

Unrelated to your comment...the Wild Boar looks amazing! I can honestly truthfully say that with the Wild Boar and Wolverine, I'm okay if not getting any other mammals except those in South/Central America. Sure some would be great, but I personally feel like I've got a really good roster for the rest of the world for my purposes.

Here's a South American Animal for you!

Seriously, I disagree that all mammals should be from SA... I think we "need" a lagomorph*, more deer*, another Asian antelope, a warm weather sheep, Musk Ox, maybe Sea otter, a marten, a mongoose and a bigger antelope that looks like cows.
*Marsh Deer would be fine and so would Pudu and maybe a brocket deer AND I have no idea if there are any hares or pikas in SA...

MMHHHMMM... Now these new, more realistic models of animals give me the illusion. That's the original game and these later DLC, you tell a stranger are two games, maybe he will believe. (Every time I see the lion cartoon modeling, I can't help but smile)
