[CQC] Cat and Mouse game

So this is how it looks against someone "who know how to play the CQC Arena" - your shields never dropped due to enemy fire.
Ask Dafttree to play CQC with you ;)
You can find him in our discord channel (link in sig)

Also, he made lots of mistakes in this particular match, which I used against him, hence the title (I thought it was appriopriate as per definition - try to defeat someone by tricking that person into making a mistake so that you have an advantage over them).

We, in WRYR, usually just play DMs.. even when we have 4+ players. DM is actually the best fun when 4+ people play it. TDMs suffer from matchmaking inbalance, teams are sorted by some silly algorithm. I often think it's just a roll of a dice.

i never meant to imply that cmdr Dafttree whould be bad at CQC... just that the difference between you and him is too big to be fun in the long run.
And it's never fun to lose game after game at 0 score, as much as (for me at least) is not fun to win every single match to 0
I mean, it doesnt even look fun to me as an YT viewer.

1vs1 is general isn't as exciting as full lobby.. One or two matches of 1vs1 and I usually say "ggs" and I'm done. For people I don't like very much I can stay longer, but they never do 🤣

i disagree - 1vs1 can be extremely fun if there is a not much of a skill difference between the two.
a full lobby of rather-close-to-same-skill-players has the potential to be even more funnier.

you against a wing, things could start to look the fun way... 😂

Loosing mainly just slows progress to glacial speed.
You progress quicker as you get better. When I was a new player I wasn't winning any matches for quite some time. Most of the players I had to face were already CQC Elite. But by playing against them I was making a fast progress in terms of skill. Facing any other random players later have become just so easy. After about month in my XP started growing exponentially. Foes that used to farm me easily started to avoid me.
If you just hide from good players you will never really be able to challenge them. Yes it is a slow XP gain at start, but you just get rewarded later. Or you can be just scared of your shadow, avoid better players and pad your stats/XP with weaker players... and forever remain salty that some players are just too good and no fun to play with.

Interestingly (this game aside) the score doesn't always reflect how close the overall match was. All it takes is the better player to just edge each encounter and a closely contested game can look like a whitewash scorewise. I was hoping he would share the other one where I got him a couple of times (rock assisted) ;)

I know what you mean, but like 24-25 years ago i was mopping the floor with basically anyone that was playing on our local UT server (one of the few at the time in the city).
Winning 25-0 every single match on Deck-16 was the norm for me for a while.
But it was definitely not fun for the others especially when doing 1-vs-1 either voluntarily or due to lack of players

But, at that time, i never got to that level by getting myself smacked in deathmatches time after time without even having time to learn the maps and the power up / weapons / ammo loops.
Nope, i just played countless and countless hours each of the maps versus bots set on Godlike! mode - till i managed to reliably win every single map - and not just win, but win at solid score difference.

However, i cannot do that in CQC and i basically dont have the will nor the time to powerlevel someone else to the nth time to prestige elite cqc while i'm trying to learn the ropes - which is basically impossible if you die without not even knowing what hit you and from where.

So, i think i would really enjoy CQC, but only if they gave us the ability to train with bots (NPCs) of selectable level - from Harmless to Elite - pretty much like the combat training scenarios, but in the CQC setup and using the CQC maps and unlockables.

I see where you are coming from. I can only share my personal early CQC experience which really wasn't anywhere near as bad as I often hear CQC being described. I believe I came across weaker players just as often (if not more) than veterans. Granted, the times you play may affect who is online and the tougher players are really tough (especially at first). But it was suprising to me at least how quickly I felt I was a little better than many of the other players I was facing.

I've just finished a couple of CQC games (1v1) having not been able to take part in quite a while. I'm getting no better at it but I don't mind at all - 'tis just knockabout fun and if I lose 8-0 each game then I do :) Its another 85 points to the next level each game and the eventual goal of rank 50, with the system permit that goes with it.

I'd be glad to give a try to this gameplay even if I'm pretty sure I'd be the worst, but I don't care about losing at all, it seems like a cheap way of PvP without bounties/rebuys so a good training for noobish players like me.

Do you know if there are threads about players willing to join for fun in the forum, so we could make appointments of some sort in order to populate? Don't know if that is supposed to work like this, but I can ask...

There is a group of players (squadron actually) that will invite you for "friendly matches" and try to convince you it it good for you to avoid better players. But they will be actually better than you and it will be nothing more than private farms of noobs like you for them. It's they who are trying to avoid better players ;)

Just so you know, because they will likely approach you in private message (they check this forum).

Just look for some random player met accidentally in cqc arena, who is at your rank and skill level and try to communicate with him in game for future games together.

If you want to talk about CQC and have questions about how to play or to learn the game mechanics you can join WRYR discord and have a chatter. We are the most active squadron in the game with the most knowledgeable cqc players.
We don't organise private farms, all our matches are open to all - mind, we play CQC regularly and you may find it very tough to play with us at early stages.
