Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

I'm not ok with the game ending now, not before getting a new pack Focus on LATAM. I've waited four years to get the most important animals for my region of the world to just not get them at all. Sure we got the capybara and the maned wolf, but rhea, mara, coati, ocelot and at least another monkey are still missing and are essential for me. After them i would be at peace. Sure i want the blackbuck, secretary bird, crowned crane, pelican, Palla's cat, musk ox, markhor and thousands more birds but i can cope with them not making it officially in the game ( and honestly i personally don't really care about the tree roo, spectacled bear and baboons), BUT i do need at least more animals from my country/continent otherwise i would be very dissapointed and the game will never feel complete for me.

Australia got a lot (Australia, Oceania, Wetlands, Grasslands). Europe got a lot (Europe, Eurasia). NA got basically two packs (NA and Twilight). Even the Middle East got quite a lot last year. Is time for Latinamerica to take the Spotlight, even if it is the last pack.
Yeah I am hoping the last pack is either South America or Birds. In all fairness for NA a lot of the animals are native to my country, but they aren’t local animals for my zoos. So while I do admit NA has a lot of animals, they don’t always feel like “my animals” if that makes sense. My local zoo (native) animals are usually this group:
  1. American Black Bear
  2. Mountain lion
  3. North American River Otter
  4. Bald Eagle
  5. Waterfowl
But if I visit a big city zoo then in the North American sections I can find the grizzlies, moose, bison, alligators, etc.

I cant quite get thinking process behind people who claim Frontier with console release would kill so-called by them cash cow. It doesn't take long to realise opening to new market is smarter financal decision than making generic DLC number 17th. Potentially doubling revenue compared to increasing it by few % at best lol.

I see the community is a lil' shaky because of this announcement so let me give my personal insight.

Firstly the facts, yes it seems that development might be wrapping up for Planet Zoo, this is definitely not good news considering the incomplete roster we currently have, on the other side, it is definitely an indication that a sequel will come in the future. It's a bit bittersweet, but perhaps it's for the better, there are some things in Planet Zoo that are impossible to improve no matter how many animals you add in.

The lack of any announcements regarding more content in FY25 for PZ and JWE2 is definitely a bad sign too, however we can't really know if this is the case until there is official confirmation, until then I will still hope for content until the end of this year, but I am also prepared if that's not the case. There is also this scenario that is different from Planet Coaster situation, which is that Planet Zoo is getting a port to console announced before its support has officially ended, could this mean that maybe packs could still going to keep the pc and the new console fanbase engage during the ongoing months? I definitely think it's not flat out impossible.

Now the bad things about this, and that is, the final dlc, if it's the final that is, is not gonna be something good. As it currently stands we are stuck with a game that:
  • Has butterflies and bats, but no flying birds like macaws or owls.
  • Has a skunk, a quokka, three foxes, two gibbons, but no walrus, no coati, no tree kangaroo, and one south american monkey.
  • Absurdly low South American representation, specially when compared to Southeast Asia and Africa.
  • Really poor diversity of African ungulates, with 4 species belonging to the same subfamily and utter lack of small ungulates overall.
  • An incredibly poor roster of habitat reptiles and birds.

What annoys me the most is that many of these animals could still feasibly work in the current game, so the only reason to leave them out is just for milking dlcs for the sequel, this is the most stingy and vile thing they could do so I really hope they do not do that.

So in my eyes Frontier has two options for the final dlc:
  • Stingy evil: the dlc adds 1 big seller and the rest is fodder and lame clones
  • Better timeline: The final dlc has enough desired animals to fix most of the problems of the final roster, this would be something including walrus, coati, tree kangaroo, and secretary bird at least, plus various south american animals (at least rhea, mara and one monkey).

Yeah well, not everyone is thrilled by the potentional sequel. I for one do not really care about marine animals and would rather have the current game continue.
Yeah not thilled about a sequel at all tbh.
Not only is it atleast a couple years in the future, but then you will in all likelyness have to wait for and buy all the animals through DLCs again.

Edit: Besides that i cant really imagine what would even justify a sequel. I mean what even is there to improve? What new features could be added that you cant do in PZ?

Give me a Children’s Zoo Expansion Pack, please!!!

• Dutch Rabbit
• African Dwarf Goat
• African Spurred Tortoise
• Common Mallard Duck
• White Nosed Coati
• Black Capped Squirrel Monkey
• Scottish Highland Cattle
• Rainbow Lorikeet (WE)
• Building Theme - Barnyard and Children’s Zoo

This gives us one very versatile and standalone flying bird, South American rep, domestic rep, a duck to join the swan, and a very versatile building theme. This would be a win win all round I think.

I’m missing something, what announcement was there?

After all the slowly cooked teasing for birds (eggs as props, bats and butterflies flying in walkthrough exhibits, the mute swan, and some more...) I can't really think of ending the game without aviaries. As it has been discussed here other threads, Frontier usually releases their final DLC with some more content than usual so people have sometimes talked about our final DLC being a flying birds pack.

Birds or not, I hope we have more than just one pack left, because we still lack some very common zoo species (coati, New World monkey, baboon, muntjac, tree kangaroo, chameleon, gecko, cobra...) that wouldn't be easy to mod.

And being the spring DLC out final pack or not, this has been an amazing journey, pals. And we can trust mods for fulfilling some other needed species (blackbuck, markhor, spectacled bear, ocelot, sea otter...).

I would love a pack like this, but I can see how if this would be the last pack there would be a lot of upset people.
TBH unless the last pack is something great (especially compared to the past year) I think a good part of the community will always be upset. Unfortunately as it stands Planet Zoo has a lot of missed potential, so not everyone will be happy, here is what I am upset about personally:

  1. It took 4 years to get a waterfowl and we might not get another one
  2. We have 1 flamingo, 1 crane, and 1 game bird when that seems like a super easy way to boost the roster and had more bird choices
  3. Just the lack of birds sigh It took them 4 years for us to finally get three bird species in a year, and that just might be the max of it. Hopefully this final dlc gives us a lot.
  4. I have only one South American monkey, but no golden lion tamarin. One of the most important animals in conservation.
  5. I don’t mind exhibit boxes as they are, it’s just a shame they are undercooked and underutilized.
  6. I can’t make a good petting zoo in a zoo game
  7. There are a total of 0 fish in the roster, not even in exhibit boxes which seemed like the perfect way to add at least some into the game.
  8. I can’t make a good aviary
I’m gonna try to be more positive for the last dlc, but for now I do want to get the “doomer” energy out. I think it’s a good way of expressing what the sequel game NEEDS to be to get me interested in it. Realistically animals are gonna have to be sold back to us again, and unless Planet Zoo 2 has:
  1. Better climbing system with more monkeys (especially South American)
  2. A much better roster of birds, especially at launch. Yes this would also mean aviaries
  3. Aquatic animals
  4. Petting zoo feature
  5. More in depth management for my zoo, it just feels like I build me zoo and then I’m done
  6. Better optimizing for lower end PCs
  7. Guest needs tweaked (why do they care about backstage stuff, and how many foodtsands there are?)
These are just some of the features it would need, especially after I already bought base game and every single dlc. I’m gonna start using mods after support is done. If mods are where I’m gonna get a lot of the birds and animals I have been needing then it’s gonna be hard for me to go to a sequel if it doesn’t have what I listed above.

I know this is a long post and I’m being negative, but like I said I want to get the energy out now. I bet the devs are hard at work with something cool coming (I hope)

Same here. I mean i do care about Aquatic animals but i feel like i'm being scammed with PZ 2 so soon. I spent all this money in the game to have an incomplete roster with animals that are clearly being left out on purpose to capitalize on them for a sequel and getting a bunch of oddballs instead.

Yep, that's pretty much the same feeling I have.
