No Single Player offline Mode then?

Same. :( The sad thing is that there are (at last count) seven people who I've persuaded to sign up for Elite, and in every single case, their first question was "Can I play offline?".

Guess how I feel about it now...

I am lucky, i know 10 people (actually more than that but not all play computer games) and none the people that are going to play ED are interested in a pure offline mode, the people that i know are outgoing people that dont want to shut themselves away from the world, but for those that do want to do that i hope you get this problem sorted out.

In fact, in my circle of friends, the first question about any new game is 'Does it have off-line?'. All my friends are people with families and have careers that keep them on the go. There's just little time for them to sit down and make sure that they too can have a slice of the pie amongst the onslaught of people who can invest many more hours than they can. The personal situation is limiting the choice. Gaming is a lifestyle, of that I'm convinced. But it shouldn't become the overriding factor of your day. Allways online games where the players dictate the landscape require a lot of time-investment many people just don't have anymore.
I can't recommend Elite to my friends anymore; it's always online.

Excellent point and very well stated, but unfortunately I doubt it will ever drive home. Some people just don't get it, or they refuse to. I mean, I understand: you can't really know what it's like to have a full time job that you sometimes have to take home with you, a family and real life problems until you actually walk a few hundred miles in those shoes, unfortunately. I actually think that's one of the main reasons behind the lack of common ground between the two camps.

I do not think this is strictly true. Even with others influencing the market and with others exploring, there is still so much space in the game that you do not have to compete with anyone, and that is still true even if you play in open mode. The amount of space we are getting is huge. Even the amount of inhabited systems is truly massive.

And I know one Kid which didn´t get ED for X-Mas....and its not me.....thats for ..make it fast for X-Mas Sales.

Actually I would suspect that the vast majority of us in here unhappy about this will be unable to obtain a refund because, having paid more for being in the beta, we therefore decided to actually download it and give it a go. Yeah, I know, how silly, right? Who does that?

Note to self: Next time you pay more to play a game's beta, don't. It's nonsensical, I know, but you never know when a company's going to frontier you.

Removed: I was just being a naughty troll and thought better of it.

The idea that "I'm a minority, I deserve special rights" is as abhorrent as "I'm powerful, so I should get what I want, no matter the cost to everyone else."

I WAS TRYING TO GO BACK TO LURKING BUT GOD.

No-one is crying 'give me special rights, I'm a minority' and frankly, the very idea you would phrase that the way you did makes me wonder what kind of world you inhabit. You toss the word minority around like you just spat something distasteful off your tongue... I don't want to make this ad hominem, but I'm struggling. cough. deep breath. OK - come on, choice of words. Careful. Some of them have meanings and ... go read some Roland Barthes, learn about signs & signifiers etc. and put down the Daily Mail. 'Minority' is not a word one tosses around lightly.

Lay off that kind of abhorrent language, settle down, listen and then people will talk to you, take you seriously, and I can lurk in peace.

Decided to not put this in the Refund experiences (relating to offline issue), as there is tonnes of off topic already, but i was thinking about the general inability to get refunds currently.

One suggestion for FD if any of the devs are watching the thread, IF you are not giving refunds what about helping those effected sell on their product to other people? For example can we transfer our accounts to other people? I really have no idea how all that works in relation to digital products, if that is a can of worms or not. I can certainly live with losing £80 (not happy about it, and my trust would be affected), but it would be 'nice' to get something back out of all this, and if someone can get my game that i will not be using cheap (say £50?), that would be a positive all around.

If FD helped with this that might it go smoother? Anyway i'll just put that out there

I would think selling the alpha or beta pass of Elite is quite easy on the gray market (e-bay for instance). It's definitely the best way to get the KS investment at least mostly back if you no longer want it. Considering alpha and premium beta accounts have the lifetime expansions pack, they are quite valuable, and even beta passes get the free axes to Sol and 25% insurance discount.

Instead of causing trouble for the game, those who no longer want it, or doubt it's future should try to keep things positive, and offload their copies on those who want them. I don't think they will have trouble finding byers, at least to the beta+expansion pack price.

What is it exactly that you would want. A game where anybody is free to pirate a copy, and where there is no effective data security, so everybody is free to mod and hack to their hearts content? Also no real way to give timeouts and bans, as griefers could just make another account, and continue to use the same hacks.
What I want is an offline version, my money back, or what you describe. Either way, I ordered a DRM free version.

No thanks. Such things make games unplayable and unpleasant very quickly. I've been a dev in Allegiance, and controlling client-side mods and cracking was an absolute nightmare.

Agreed, the offline or money back options are better for us all.

To over-blow your position in the hope you'll get your own way without reflecting on the reality of the situation in any way.

The reality of the situation is that I'm going away for Christmas but can't play ED where I'm going because frontier. But thanks. Hey, you wanted a dose of reality, be careful what you wish for, right?

On a lighter note, the (tw-it) bit made me LOL, and your Blackadder picture's a nice touch, even if those of us who have played already and actually cared about offline kinda feel a little bit like we've had a pair of pencils stuffed up our noses right about now.

Yeah, lets lie to dump our baggage on the next unlucky guy, is that what you are doing right now?

Let's wait for the first posts of disgruntled people who are too late to get to the profitable tradinglanes because they have to sleep too, lol. Gamma will kick the stream of complainers off, believe you me. ^^

Nope, I bought into DRM free Elite Dangerous, specifically only after they made that clear.

This DRM "free" copy?

Physical DRM-free boxed edition of "Elite: Dangerous" plus all rewards above (please note: the disc in the pack is simply an alternative way to install the game - it will have the same online account code whether installed off disc or downloaded digitally).

Estimated delivery: Mar 2014

Does the "it will still have the same online account code" not invalidate the expectation of DRM free?

And a clear violation of the Terms and Conditions, you're not seriously advocating that are you now? ;)

Maybe it's simply a matter of age, lifestyle, and choice. My friends are people with families who can't afford the timesink required to put into an MMO, and were looking for the same thing as me.

You still can play by yourself - hence Solo Mode

err, no you can't!
solo mode just means you don't meet other players in game, but you're game world is still directly affected by their actions in the dynamic galaxy!
please try to understand the essential difference between online solo and offline single player! maybe then you might just gain some real insight into, just one of the issues at hand, it's not about a game "feature" or playing mode, its about what TYPE of game/product is being offered.

Online-Solo. Fixed your problem... you're welcome.

As for you giving out offline advice, the Minimum Specs clearly states Internet Connection.
