Wow, I've been away from PZ for a little while and I see I missed some stuff...
If end of support really is nigh, I'm pretty disappointed. The game feels half-finished.
- No flying birds
- No fish/rays/aquariums
- Hardly any monkeys
- No petting zoo mechanics
- A lack of distinct exhibit species such as chameleons, cobras, geckos, pythons, colourful tree snakes
- No ability to build nocturnal houses, because you can never totally block light from entering the building (and even if you could there's a lack of small mammals you could house in it)
- No gridded mesh pieces and other varieties of log walls, stone walls etc for making habitats
- Animals that are crying out for updates - if not to their design, to their sizing. "Giant" tortoises etc are just far too small.
The lack of gridded mesh etc means it is really not easy to make a half-decent looking aviary / roofed enclosure. Sure, some people can build some amazing stuff, but many of us can't - or just don't have the time or desire to do so. I don't want to spend three hours rotating fiddly pieces just to make a single habitat.
The point I'm driving at here is that it's too hard to build a nice
zoo, which is surely what this game is all about. Sometimes this feels like Planet Builder with animals thrown in. If there is a PZ2, I hope this is addressed, because after all the time and money spent on this game, I feel really disappointed if it's going to be left like this. I wish it was easier and more accessible for ordinary players like me to just knock pieces together and build great-looking habitats. I would like more interactions for guests like feeding stations and viewing binoculars. I would like better, more consistent and realistic animal signs, not pieces of a badger, or a salamander playing a musical instrument. I would like more enrichment for animals. I would like guests that actually behave like real people at a real zoo, and don't get upset because they're staring at an animal that's two miles away when there's another one standing right in front of their faces. In short, I want more stuff to build realistic
zoos. It rankles me that I can build a silly diorama thing with a mechanical kangaroo or a ten-foot-high meerkat statue on it, but I can't have the things listed above. There's too much gimmicky stuff and not enough for building realistic zoos. And if I have to buy a whole new PZ2 just to start all over again, that feels a little frustrating at this point.
I'm happy for those that wanted console. I just hope this isn't it for PC players. People are saying there's going to be one more DLC, so maybe it'll be amazing, and if it is I'm well prepared to come back to this post and eat humble pie. But it'd have to be pretty darn amazing.
Meh. Apologies for the rant. I have well over 1500 hours in this game, and I love it. It's just that it has so much more potential than has been realised right now, and I think that's a shame.
