Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Nice to see you re-discovering ED, seems like your CMDR has been busy living a tidy life on some remote ELW, but got the itch for those space hobo adventures again.
Heh, more like disappeared halfway to Rho Cassiopeia on some madness induced quest to find Raxxla, then resurfaced two years later with no money, no ship, and a new name, doing dubious merc work (the Odyssey Tutorial) to fund a new ship...
The guardian ruins are still active - the main source of the goods needed for a recent CG stems from there. And you surely can disembark there, but be aware of the Sentinels.

^ That,
and I case you missed it while away, there's a second SRV model called Scorpion you can buy at military ground stations. While I prefer the Scarab for multipurpose stuff, i've found this one easier to handle in those ruins (less brutal acceleration, tuff hull and shield, less precise but powerful plasma mg, and a autoaim missile launcher useful for the kind of drones like guardian sentinels)

AFAIK, not around the Pleiades unless you carry something they want and don't give it back.

It's been buggy for a while. But better not trust too much in it. I forgot to sell my meta alloy to Farseer but managed to engineer stuff, and then at a later date I needed to provide the MA.

Yes they are. You'll need the SRV to pick up the relic and scan the terminal, but you can run around on foot and energize the pylons and shoot skimmers. Plasma weapons work well for this and is great fun. It's pretty easy to spot the pylons from higher up using the jetpack.

Oh, the Scorpion was around last I played, but I never tried it. Sounds like I'll have to be careful poking around Guardian Ruins these days!

As for the Engineers - I'm off to see if Elvira will boost my FSD range, so I'm about to find out if I'll need those Soontil Relics after all!

Well around the time of that post I linked to, the sir had observed these rocks in numerous abundances and due to this scientific insight, an etymology update was issued. I believe several here are shown, seemingly as if an innocuous side dressing to E. Plumae (Mulberry).

It's a rock that I noticed in various places which has an easily identifiable shape. I called it The Rock of Ubiquity because it was everywhere on some planets. Folks here in this thread started calling it Codger's Rock, though, and that name seems to have stuck.

Here are a few examples. I have lots more. Once you've seen it, you'll start finding it here and there throughout the galaxy. :)

Nice! I shall be sure to document my first finding here

Thanks for the warm welcome back, helping me get re-oriented and entertaining my nonsense everyone!!

So I drop into the Khun system to visit Elvira Martuk for some FSD tweaking, in Solo, because I learned that lesson a long time ago, and the NPC's decided I should have the full Engineer experience... :D:eek::ROFLMAO:

Yeah, I've done the solo thing while transporting goods to engineers. 8-o One of the things I didn't realise early on is how fast small ships like the Cobra can be. I didn't even know there was a boost option at first so my first instinct was to turn and fight before getting hosed by some weapon you can't even find at a station.

Once I realised I could potentially evade the ganker chaps I'd sometimes park up in an engineer system to test my ship and have a little fun.

Deciat will actually be the one engineer system I intend to visit since optimising your jump range is just a basic time saving necessity, I think. Completely unrelated to making your ship an almost unstoppable killing machine with all the grind that entails.

Yeah, I only really bother with FSD Engineering, though if I have the materials and am in the neighbourhood I might visit an Engineer to upgrade some random piece of tech.

I tend to go to Elvira at Khun over Farseer at Deciat, though. Dunno why. Though I've just discovered Canonn is a minor faction in Khun and the surronding area, so I'm happily diverted running errands for them atm :D

That's where I ended up after some initial meandering around after leaving the Pilots Federation's stomping grounds.
I call Ballard Survey in Suhte my home base. Most of my ships are parked there.

Tried in my own humble way to contribute to the current CG. It is not an easy one. The commodities must've sold out across the bubble within a couple of days and now everyone seems to be either camping for scraps (great gameplay taking an hour of doing nothing to fill your cargo hold!) or trying to find missions that pay the right stuff.

So far my best leads are that systems that don't produce much of anything (services, colony, under attack by thargoids) are actually the best source of such missions because they have nothing else to offer except the stuff that only shows up as mission rewards and can't be bought on the open market. I gave it a shot, and it did seem promising, but didn't have enough time to really capitalise.

I've set my cutter to be transferred to a relevant location and will try to find an hour or two to run the event this way.

I can see what FDev was going for, but failing to nuke the backstock of supply just meant that everyone who got there on day 1 had thousands available and everyone else is begging for crumbs. It seems unlikely that I can even hit top 50% this time around, but fixing that one issue next time might actually make for a really interesting CG where you have to be properly engaged, and where large ships and carriers don't jump you to the front of the queue, but this time it seems to have missed the mark a little. NBD because the rewards aren't great, and I hope it gets taken as the learning experience it should be 😸

Also, I guess I still had the xmas paintjob on my python. It's not bad, tbf, but I will flip back to chromed because the ship is called the Argent One for a reason...

To be honest most hauling CGs tend to give people in the right place at the right time an edge at the start and readily available stocks being hoovered up in an ever increasing volume around the CG location was also par for the course. Getting stuff from missions is a new twist though.

However there are still six days to go so you might make it.

How's that flat galaxy society going for you? Do you guys still meet on Wednesday nights at that imperial brothel?

I wouldn't know

I don't keep a calendar (besides the unannotated 3010 White Dwarfs of Oofairg pinup calendar!)

But I just happen to patronise the establishment nightly, in case there is such a meeting. Maybe that's why it worked out

Actually it's an Alliance faction though, in all seriousness, well, there may be allied brothels. Hmm <jots a note>. But they mostly meet on discord.

FGS is a pretty quality establishment and they keep a nice task list of things to do to help out. https://flatgalaxysociety.info/ Marv used to hang out there too if he ever returns

Since I am away in Colonia it is all very far away, but, I think I will go home and tune in there again in some weeks.

I've found not focusing on the highest value/return commodity helps - Ion Distributors are mch easier to find in numbers that fill my 102 capacity Type 6 than neofabric Insulators.

I've dropped off less than 500 units and am sitting top 75% atm. I might do some more before the end, but I'm also itching to get beyond the bubble and roam about some.

Theres some discussion of where best to look in the dedicated thread for this CG. I've just been looking for 'em through Inara though.

The CG is a success as soon as Tier 1 is reached, and that was set super low, so I guess Frontier really wanted to make sure this one would land, for, uh, reasons ;)
I'd say the folks out there who are wracking up contributions in the thousands and tens of thousands are 'properly engaged', the rest of us filthy casuals get above bare minimum and dip out to do something else, I guess

Not sure I ever saw a CG with a reward that made me feel - oooh, I must have me a one of those. I just like to feel I'm contributing, and I've skipped CG's altogether for 'RP' reasons. But then again, filthy casual

The large ships and carriers are always going to outperform anyone who is not similarly equipped, and motivated, ready to start truckin' the minute the CG drops on the relevant Thursday. That's just how it's going to be.

For whom? Pretty sure FDev has handled CG's the way they wanted - it has achieved technical success so that the planned story/changes to ED coming soon (tm) can go ahead in the desired context.

Maybe in future CG's will change and evolve, but for now they're much as they ever where - a mass participation event that will be dominated by those with the time and the inclination to 'grind it out'.

I wouldn't hold your breath though - unless the life support unit gets fragged...

pallidium is the better choice, gold and silver are good but you probably ended up with me on your tail :) for trade stuff.

Oh yeahhh I love normal traded. I think that's how I got to the esteemed broker level of tradesmanship. Or maybe it was selling drugs and land mines. I guess that is a pretty normal trade

That reminds me when I was en route to Colonia, I imagined opening an onionhead boutique out of my T-10. I had better get back there and board and depart that PROFIT TRAIN. Not that I'm complaining about the riches and fame of exploration

Meanwhile, deep in Orion's armpit, it's 1200K in the shade. The molten nectar of these spicy-sweet blatteum anemones: one drop will vaporize an entire full stack 1T of pancakes.
