Thr rift is awesome.
So, is it worth shelling out three hundred quid to get a DK2 (about $500 Australian), out of the games I have pretty much ED will be the only game to support it (have a feeling Terraria won't match up that well).
The game I've played so far is very shiny but I'm worried about the controls, I seem to have to switch between gamepad and keyboard often due to the lack of buttons mapped to the 360 controller I'm using and this will be difficult if I can't see the 'board. Or worth getting a HOTAS setup?
If you have $350 to spare, then yes. BUT, it could potentially cost you more than this if your rig is a couple years old.
I upgraded to a GTX 970 and I must say that
the Rift experience is second to none, even with all the current imperfections.
I play with a HOTAS setup, Yaw pedals, as well as 4 additional stomp pedals next to the Yaw.
I'm not lacking for buttons, but I am sometimes lacking brain power to remember what all the buttons are mapped to! (muscle memory will eventually kick in)
So, as you can imagine the cost of ownership quickly adds up.
As for other games, if you like flight sims there's War Thunder and IL-2 BOS who are both currently working on adding native Rift support, and both promise to be ready by the end of the year.
Also, let's not forget Star Citizen (eventually) as well as Alien Isolation (with a small hack applied) and all the other stuff that's being worked on right now.
I am very curious what the system requirements for CV1 will be. I'm hoping NVIDIA/AMD will come up with some VR tricks in their firmware and I'm hoping game publishers will get smart(er) about how they optimize their games, otherwise with 4x the pixels needing 90fps instead of 75fps the hardware will be untouchable for the common Joe.
We shall see...........
