Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I always felt there was a lot more to learn about the Thargoids, and about the Guardians and how the two overlap.

But I also understood, back in the earliest days after their appearance, when FDev said it was basically up to the players how Thargoid stuff would go down, that it was always going to end up in pew-pew's.

I remember the devs talking about the first time an Interceptor was released into the game - some players set out to destroy it immediately, even though there were no game mechanics for that yet at the time… :D

…and so out of all the possible interactions with this alien species, all the routes ongoing encounters could have taken, it did lead to combat and conflict, leading up to the invasion story arc of the last year and a half…

…so, even though it has been interesting to follow this fairly epic narrative the last while, with the final chapter grabbing much attention as the conflict plays out at last, I’m hoping interaction with an alien species will explore other options when/wherever Thargoids inevitably reappear again :]

I have had it happen to me, for and against, and seen others suffer the same fate. Playing a table top game with miniature armies from the ancient period, and when parts of the battle line clash the RNG goes wild and one side obliterates a big chunk of the enemy in a single turn and then mops up in a second for a really easy victory. Absolutely nothing you can do about it when it does happen.

As an aside: Do you ever have "one of those days" in Elite?
Having one this very day - first footfall on this rock, one bio-sign, bacterium - damned near invisible!

Finally found the third (after hours of searching!) at about the time Taranis was due to pop? Coinsidence, I think not!

I concur.

Is there some sort of bug or hidden limit to how much cargo can be transferred from carrier to ship at once? Because after having a chill few hours doing some mining following the excitement of watching Taranis cark it, I ended up metaphorically banging my head against the wall a few times trying to transfer 181 platinum from my carrier to a trading vessel. I ended up going to bed in disgust. I wasn't best pleased when I got up today and found that the problem persisted, but at least I was fresh enough to find out that this limit/bug could be circumvented by transferring the platinum in separate lots of 12. What a pain in the fundament.

So whilst everyone was watching Taranis 'splode, I was razzin' 'round down California Nebula* way in my Cobra IV, Stheno, getting my 'sploration on, honking, scanning, sambling. Snagged 120 million, and a few first maps/footfalls/samples (including one Stratum strain that brought in a 76 mil first finder bonus! Zoinks!).

Anyway, I've been enjoying my (frequently maligned MKIV), so if you don't like 'em, maybe skip to the end

*Why do we not call the route down from The Bubble, through the Pleiades Cluster to the California Nebula 'Rout 66' - that should totally be a thing!

An ode to the Cobra MKIV:

That last one is the Amonia World in the MEL 22 Sector YU-Y D9 system, still a little way out from the Pleiades - I'm looking for a Thargoid Probe to honk, see if I can record 'The Signal'... No joy, probably a bit far out yet.

Agreed, this is why I'm looking to honk a probe (there's a phrase that conjours images!), at the very least I anticipate the Thargoids will linger as at least an occassional nuissance, snagging ships in witch space (like they did back in 1984), but I'm also hoping for more, and not just fighting them!

I haven't heard of this one before. I have heard that logging in/out can update stuff when it appears that nothing has transferred, but that doesn't sound like the same issue.

I transferred 700 units of Tritium to my T9 no problem just yesterday.

Now it's throwing a wobbler when I try to transfer small quantities of palladium:

I ended up having to transfer the 3 palladium one unit at a time. It makes no sense!

I had the same problem recently, which just seemed to result from clicking too much stuff too quickly (game is highly dependent on server response as any live/online game) - sorted out with a quick relog :]

Doing slow laps around Delphi 6 waiting for a Nonhuman Signal Source (Threat 2) to spawn. Getting plenty of USS's, but all the NSS are Threat 4+ Do the probes even spawn the way thy used to, anyone know?

So much Thargoid stuff has happened, they may have been changed/remove from when they used to play the signal when honked.

Meanwhile, a screenie from my recent exploration, so it's not just words:

That's the thing, re-logging didn't seem to be solving the problem, neither last night or this afternoon. But I've gotten around the problem.

Now I'm just running around the bubble to all the far-flung carriers offering the best prices for the stuff I've mined. I've only had one of them turn out to be a dud so far. (y)

Welp, still no Thargoid Probes found.

So I dipped out to the YooChoobz and recorded the audio of someone else doing the probe hinking. I wasn't sure it would work, what with being a second hand source, YT compression, my incompetence, so forth.

Behold:

Tweaked a bit:

It's a bit garbled 'round the edges, but it's enough for me - I can work the tools to find the spectrograms!

It's not new content or anything like that, but I did the thing. Even if I had to use an external source. Now if I'm looking elsewhere for this sort of thing in game, I know it's not me using the equipment wrong!

Here's another Exploration Shot, for your patience  :

Looks a bit like a distorted ships HUD.

Nice explo pic by the way.

It's one of the orignal Thargoid Signals from the days around their first appearances - honk the 'Unknown Probes' around Amonia Worlds, record the signal it emits, convert to spectrogram, see the hidden messages!

This is the Canonn Page for this particular one.

I'm up to my old tricks in the Quest for Raxxla forum section, and this tangentialy related. Also I wanted to make sure I was 'doing it right' in case there is any 'non-war' Thargoid content to follow the destruction of the Titans, so that I might participate if there is.

Oh, this is the YooChoob video I recorded the audio from, if amyone wants to try it at home.

Nice explo pic by the way.

Cheers!
