Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

I agree there are more interesting bird species, but I would like a bird representative for my continent.

This is going to sound weird, but I would like a turkey, roadrunner, burrowing owl, Canada goose, wood duck, and whooping crane because they are mundane! Having them I can flesh out another animal habitat even more: adding wild turkeys to the pronghorns or peccaries, adding the waterfowl to a beaver habitat, etc. I can also use them to fill out other areas I’m building. Adding the burrowing owl next to my prairie dogs, or adding the whooping cranes close to my alligators are some good examples.

They are moe mundane than something flashy like a shoebill, but I would like to have those mundane options. I would like to have those options, not every animal I need to be super flashy. Sometimes I’m happy getting a “filler” animal, they do wonders in making my zoos more believable.
Yeah thats something really common with birds, they are very rarely the highlighted animals and are often supplementary and satelite exhibit / filler animals. But those types of animals are equally important in my eyes since they really help flesh out areas and frame the star animals in the right light.

You know what’s great about some bird lists like this one?

  1. The spoonbill, burrowing owl, and pelican can all fit as South American representation as well.
  2. The Nene can also work as Pacific island representation, which is a very small group at the moment.
  3. If done right the wild turkey could easily work with the llama as a farm animal, and a wild animal.
  4. As I stated before, all of these guys could work to greatly fill out certain sections of zoos. Making them both more organic while also fleshing out the Star animals.
Personally I would change the great blue heron with the scarlet ibis, which can be found in South Florida!

Oh i didn't know the ibis was found in florida or México. I thought it was more of a CA Caribbean animal but heck yeah i also prefer it to the heron. Or rather i would change it for the turkey 😂

We got packs featuring halloween and christmas themes, I don't see why we couldn't get a bunny and easter theming and a turkey with thanksgiving theming.... Like at least a few items as part of a larger pack, I think that would be nice.
I always thought mini packs for those festivities would been Nice. I understand no thanks giving since Frontier is from the UK but like Easter or Saint Valentine or stuff like that. Before getting the swan i thought i would be perfect for such mini pack. Maybe 1 habitat animal, 1 exhibit and 1 shop?

I had the idea for like some kind of mini bundles some time ago. Which would be 1 animal and a handfull of decor piece for a theme that doesnt really warrant a whole pack.
Easter with a rabbit and thanksgiving with a turkey were 2 of them. Also chinese new year with asian water monitor would have been perfect aswell since its the year of the dragon

shakes head in disappointment
What wrong with that?
Why does it have 10 animals?
I just felt like adding 2 more.
I would buy it and I'd be excited about maybe half of it but simultaneously pretty disappointed. The two birds would be game-changing! The Andean bear, chameleon, and salamander are also good picks but... The rest are pretty mid for my tastes. The yak and warty pig are throwaways for me. The monkeys are fine but there's at least 10 other primate species I'd want before either of them.

Now, if you swapped the yak for a markhor, the GSNM for a tree kangaroo, and the warty pig for sika deer or aoudad... Then I'd be all-in.
I agree the Birds would be game-changing.

Also, I am not fond of the Markhor.

So what is the general feeling here towards the last dlc, do you guys think it’s gonna underwhelm, be more of the same, or be better than we expected?
I'm thinking it will be more of the same, scenery or animal dlc. I'm really hoping for an animal pack especially if it's THE last one. But I feel it may be a lost case because the previous one was an animal pack. So yeah, preparing myself for a disappointment.

Man I would love for the DLC to be Latin America, not only because that area still feels underrepresented, but I've also put my zoo's South America section on hold until I know for certain I will be adding in any new habitats or not.

I think folks just need to wrap their heads around what is meant by a "bigger" pack. And I think it's hard to gauge exactly what that means because there's no real 1:1 comparator. The final PlanCo pack was definitely bigger and added quite a bit more general content (e.g., campaign scenario, had additional voice actors, scenery items, etc)... But also had fewer rides than some of the other packs. The final JWE pack had fewer dinosaurs than usual (2 vs. 3) but added more scenery, skins, etc. I may be missing something though, as I'm less familiar with these games.

Anticipating a "combined" animal + scenery pack with 8-12 habitat species and smaller-than-usual scenery set (~100 pieces) feels reasonable and is pretty much what I'm expecting. More than usual, but not by that much, but the type of content it is will probably be high-key impressive (e.g., highly-requested species, props people have been really wanting, and so on).

I can do a 12 pack as difficult as it is:
4 habitat birds
4 Latin American habitat animals including 2 primates
Musk ox and Baboon for general inclusion
Cobra and Chameleon for exhibits

8 is much painfully more difficult. Easy enough to remove an exhibit animal. But facing only one primate in the pack and it wouldn’t be the baboon; that also gets us just 3 more Latin American species. And remove a habitat bird.

I guess i go with:
Coatimundi species
Black Howler monkey
Spectacled Bear
Muskox
Secretary Bird
Pelican species : prefer Australian pelican
Duck species, prefer Mandarin Duck

12 is a breeze for me, though I'm far less keen on habitat birds compared to most. Of course, I say that and I'm realizing I have 3-4 in the proposed pack below. Slotted in a few "easy" makes (river otter, black bear, fox, ocelot). There's some picks I'd prefer that just don't feel reasonable given some of the other wants (e.g., NA porcupine, tamandua).
  • 5 species from Latin America (coati, howler monkey, golden lion tamarin, ocelot, scarlet ibis)
  • 1 species from Oceania (Matschie's tree kangaroo)
  • 2 species from Africa (secretary bird, bat-eared fox)
  • 3 species from North America (burrowing owl, river otter, black bear)
  • 1 species from Asia (Reeve's muntjac or mandarin duck)
8 habitat species would be a bit tighter but I'd love:
  • 4 species from Latin America (coati, golden lion tamarin, ocelot, scarlet ibis)

Yeah some of the ideas are really absurd.

At most I'm expecting Animal Pack + some scenery (not even a full scenery set). And IMO that's still optimistic.
I don't think it's unreasonable to hope for up to 12 habitat species, IMHO, especially since the pack is likely coming at a later date than anticipated and if you expect some of the picks to be similar to animals already in-game. It's on the more optimistic side of reasonable but it doesn't feel too outlandish to me.

I'm anticipating a solid pack of 8 + WTE with picks that are mostly bangers/relatively unique plus some generic zoo scenery (fence pieces, hot wire, clutter, etc.) with a scenery piece count lower than usual and pieces that don't require as much research and are pretty universal (not specific to a single culture/region) but still extraordinarily useful.

More than that would obviously be amazing... But I'm not necessarily willing to let myself expect that just yet. Hah.

The white pelican is much more iconic, and widespread in zoos.
True but…

To me I see the white as a blank canvas then the brown pelican is after you splash some beautiful colours on it.
