Don’t tell anyone, but I agree with you. Personally my goal is to make a rainforest house, so I need a tinamou more. I understand the Rhea is more representative for people.
Like the Guam rail I wouldnt consider it a loss to get one over the other though.
The Takahe does seem to come up a bit.
In terms of primarily terrestrial/aquatic birds to be be non-flighted Habitat animals, there's a fixed number of groups (could say that about anything of course). We're likely to talk about them all eventually:
- Paleognaths (Ratites & Tinamou)
- Flamingos & Grebes
- Fowl (Pheasants & Ducks)
- Core Waterbirds (Penguins, Storks, Cormorants/Darters, Pelicans, Shoebill, Ibis/Spoonbills & Herons)
- Waders, shorebirds & Auks
- Mesites (probably not the related pigeons)
- Gruiformes (Cranes, Rails, Trumpeters & Finfoots)
- Bustards & certain Cuculids (Roadrunners, ground Cuculids & Giant Coua)

- Terrestrial-leaning Telluraves (such as Secretary bird, Burrowing owl, Seriema, Kakapo & Lyrebird)

Something that surprised me is that many European players in this forum were eager for Wild Boar before the release of Eurasia pack, although the Frontier did offer Wild Boar it is listed as top 50 least popular species here. Also, I initially thought the Proboscis Monkey would be on the list b/c many people seemed to not like it due to its weird appearance and absence in Western facilities, however the only primate on this list, the least popular primate in the game, is Mandrill (if the Frontier gonna offer Baboon or Gelada, probably same fortune). The two bats in the game, Egyptian Fruit Bat made in the top 100 popular species while the Spectacled Flying Fox is on the least popular list, probably general players think only 1 bat species is good enough?

What are the building themes you would want to see most in Planet Zoo? A lot of people have said we already have enough but I'm curious which people would like. Some I can think of would be:
- Native North American Theme (Pacific Northwest, totem poles etc)
- Caribbean/Latin Theme
- Eastern European/Siberian Theme
- Colonial era/Pirate Age Theme
- Mesoamerican Theme (South America is similar but its morseo Incan, this would be Aztec/Mayan/Olmec inspired moreso)
- Mediterranean Theme (Greek/Italian/Spanish)
- American West Theme (yee haw)
- Coastal Resort Theme (vaction vibes, deck chairs and stuff)
- Himalayan/Tibetan Theme
- Iranian/Middle East Theme
- Farmyard Theme
- Museum/Expedition Theme
- Underwater Theme

Frontier so far has managed to make every scenery pack a great addition and worth to get for me as a builder, and provide nice universially usefull pieces that work outside of the packs theme. So id be down for any of these really
My personal dream theme would be a generic city theme
I think the Caribbean theme can combine with Mesoamerican theme to the Central America theme, b/c the currently available scenery pieces already allow us to build similar styles, each of these 2 may not offer that many pieces (we can have around 250 scenery pieces maximum within one pack, as Europe pack offered). Similarly, Pirate, Coastal Resort and Underwater themes can also be combined into a Coast theme. The elements of Colonial/Pirate themes could be split into Central America, Wild West and Coast themes. Additionally, modern city theme is another good choice to be considered. Several people also ask for a Bavarian theme, I think the Frontier rather offered the Bavarian theme instead of Italian theme through Europe pack, then Italian theme can be filled up by this Mediterranean theme.

This list wasn't about what people use or want; it was picking your 20 favorite animals in the game. Lists like that are going to be filled with classic zoo stars, cute small mammals, horses, dogs, and cats.
I'm not surprised the boar and peccary received few votes. I'm biased from my general dislike of pigs, but that aside, how many pigs are people going to list as a top 20 animal? I would guess most people would put 0-1, and even then, they'd probably go with the colorful red river hog, interesting babirusa, or the warthog from The Lion King. The boar and peccary still have uses when people get bored of their favorite(s) or want to build a specific themed area.
I think people wanted gibbons more than they hated the proboscis monkey. I doubt many general players have much idea of what is common or uncommon in zoos. The proboscis monkey is a newer model, looks better, and can swim. Chimps and baboons are scary to a lot of people. The "baboon" we got wasn't even a classic baboon. I am a little surprised the mandrill was that low, though. They are fun to build for and a go-to pick for me, partially from necessity. I still think an arid baboon is essential for popularity, ABC-factor, and the unique arid-primate building niche, but they aren't one of my personal favorites. I don't think they would appear in many top 20's. Not every new animal has to be a favorite, but they can still be useful and good for the roster. For primates in people's top 20 favorite animals, I'd imagine people would vote for their favorite great ape and maybe 1-3 smaller ones, like a gibbon or a lemur. I don't think that means other primates were bad additions.
I think the very top of the list (mostly cats and cute small mammals) and the very bottom (exhibit animals and antelope) tell the most. People don't seem to care much about exhibit animals and are probably getting there if not already sick of antelope and other random, less-requested ungulates. People like cats, dogs/foxes, and other cute small mammals. If I were trying to make money designing packs, I would notice what seems more universally loved and try to make sure at least one of those is included for marketing new packs. For example, if I'm designing an alpine pack I would try to include a Pallas's cat and/or tree kangaroo because people seem to like that sort of thing. The other slots could go to something easier like a spectacled bear or something needed like a primate or bird, but I would want at least one safe hit to sell the rest.
Me when I found whoever voted the mandrill so low:
Rock Hyrax might be a good choice, it is cute small animal
I agree Hamadryas Baboon is necessary not only typical ABC primate but also essential for Middle East and African desert themes, while the potential slot for Gelada may be freed up for something else if the slots are limited.
