Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

I don't expect anything anymore until at least a months from now, so the initial console release calms down and they xan release a new DLC on both platforms.
On a side note, I couldn't get more annoyed at Frontier, the console edition and their communication right now.. It's shocking to see a company I once held to high standards degenerate that fast.
(That's aimed at the leading folks, not the devs).
I feel like a hot dropped potato. After all, we are part of the reason why this game is so successful and what is the thanks?

I actually tend to disagree this time around, and you know how much I think that communication is their biggest point they could improve on.

Just looking at their Twitter for instance, since February there's been 6 tweets highlighting these three animals and every single time it was mentioned that they were exclusive to the pre-order. Every single time.

Could you say that the words "pre-order bonus" were initially confusing? Sure. But can we really continue saying that when every other form of communication around these animals used phrases like "Pre-order now and get the exclusive Thomson's Gazelle, Pygmy Hippopotamus and Komodo Dragon!", "Pre-order Planet Zoo: Console Edition now and get the Thomson's Gazelle as an exclusive bonus animal:" and "There's just over a week left to pre-order Planet Zoo: Console Edition and get an extra three exclusive animals for your zoo on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S!", that Frontier was not explicit about the fact that these animals were going to be exclusive for those who pre-order? And mind you, one of these tweets goes as far as February 2d; it's not like they only got explicit about it recently.

Do I think it's weird that they only just answered a question like that? Yeah maybe. But I don't think it's fair to say that Frontier left much wiggle room in their communication, they've been pretty clear for quite a while. I think it's just the community here that decided that because they're animals, there's all of a sudden an arbitrary rule why the animals would be avaiable at a later date, even if in previous Frontier games preorder exclusives never were available afterwards.

At the end of the day, I'm going to be honest and say that I don't really care about whether these animals are exclusive or not, as I'm not buying it on console (as I don't own a console). Am I a fan of pre-order exclusives, not really. Do I think Frontier is scummy for having them? Also not really, as it's been a pretty common strategy in the gaming industry for over a decade now. Even in the past Frontier has been giving away pre-order exclusive stuff for JWE, Planet Zoo, Planet Coaster Console and JWE2, so of course they were going to do it again for the console release.

Was it a good idea to give away the deluxe animals? I don't know. But I sure as hell know that a lot of people here would be complaining a hell of a lot more if console got a console exclusive animal, so I think that if they had to give something exclusive, that was the better choice. I personally would have gone for a console exclusive outfit for your character, but I can also understand that's not enough of a pull to get people to pre-order and if we want Frontier to keep doing well financially then a pre-order system where they can get people to buy the game a full price instead of at a discount is going to be one of those things we'll have to tolerate I guess.

I feel forgotten 🤨
Maybe I should post "PZ PC PDLC when???!!!" everywhere...
Seriously, I know that this will sound a bit rude but... relax.

We literally know there is a PDLC coming before the end of May, what's the point in getting so worked up about having to wait maybe just another month? Let the console players have their moment for a minute, they've been waiting for this for more than 4 years now. I'm sure you can sit back and wait for a month or so if they were able to wait for 4 years, it's not the end of the world.

I know we are over this topic of the musk ox but as much as i like the dall sheep i think the musk ox instead of it and the arctic fox instead of the wolf whould've made great arctic DLC.
The Arctic pack that could have been:
I would have kept the polar bear and caribou but replaced the dall sheep with a musk ox. I would have left the wolf subspecies clone in place of an exhibit animal or used a snowy owl if possible. The "fourth" habitat animal should have been the walrus.

Honestly im kinda glad it wasnt in the arctic pack. The long shaggy fur is something that frontier couldnt do at the beginning, i mean just look at the orang utan.
And that probably one of the main reasons why it wasnt in the pack

Yeah and the lion 🤢

I agree that was probably why it wasn't there in the first place and they went with the Dalls sheep. But still. We all know it should have been the musk ox haha

Just because frontier have said “they don’t have plans” to release the deluxe animals separately doesn’t mean it won’t happen. They used the same language when talking about camp Cretaceous dlc for JWE2 and they ended up with a camp Cretaceous dlc

It's one of those scenarios where I can understand why they did it but still makes me feel bad for all those console players who thought the deluxe animals would be available separately like they did for pc so they held off from pre ordering.

I’m gonna guess the biggest advantage is it’s ease of access, it’s easier for me to buy a $600 Xbox and get the game than it is for me to buy a computer.

I know computers aren’t hard to make, and making them makes them cheaper. That is a huge hurtle for me to run planet zoo well, honestly the new Xbox can probably run a more intensive zoo than my gaming laptop can.
600 bucks can easily get you a decent pc, if you settle for selfbuild with the help of a friend or online tutorials even less.
Imo current gen non nintendo consoles are atleast compared to a pc a waste of money as they are just a worse pc with only a low amount of exclusives and the only reason i dont rank the switch with them are that its only a third of the price, has a ton of great exclusives and some other nice perks

Collared lizard all the way.
Exhibits imo work best for animals that are really colorfull so you can spot them easiliy.
And well, you cant get much more colorfull than them

I agree with you. Normally it is the males that have the brightest colors, and the females a duller color. Other brightly colored lizards that could appear in the game:
  • Mwanza flat-headed rock agama or the Spider-Man agama

Gaming PC's aren't even necessary for Planet Zoo. I play on a laptop that only cost me 1100NZD (currently ~600USD, roughly the same in Euros, but it was less at the time) and have zero problems. I have also got installed other "high performance" games (Sims 4, Crusader Kings III, Hearts of Iron IV, Cities Skylines II) that all run smoothly, too.

I have a random PC I picked up from Microcenter when I tried doing coding for a very short time (I stopped pretty quickly, it was too confusing for me 😅) Its a pretty standard model, the only thing I did was put in a better graphics card.
