I needed Selenium to get my power plant to grade 4 and stumbled upon HIP 5623 1 on my travels. It's the first planet in HIP 5623, right next to Cubeo. It's not even remotely volcanic but I didn't even know to check for that until recently. I haven't done a lot of surface mining in my time but I can't say I've noticed any difference in terms of MAT scarcity. Maybe I've mostly been on non-volcanic planets.

What I did notice is that planets with nice flat surfaces make me dislike the SRV way less. I was all like 'weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!' as I raced around looking for Selenium. There was also the added bonus that HIP 5623 is closer to Earth's gravity so neither the vehicle or the MATs floated around too much. Though, ironically, I smashed the hull down to a record 20% by the time I had a drip of fuel left because every impact involved a 230mph crash.

I thought I heard a sound coming from behind a rock so I whipped out the Intimidator. It was probably nothing.

It's just a shame I found myself on a completely horrible planet after this while looking for Tellurium so I could finish to grade five. The power plant's finally done though.

I also remembered someone recently mention vertical thrust on the SRV and it took my a while to realise you could actually use the boost button to basically fly above all the crappy terrain. At least on this low G planet. It only took me nearly four years to realise that. 8-o

There are some CMDRs who make a practice of "flyving" as they call it (a combination of flying and driving), trying to stay aloft as much as possible.

Some of them have been known to bounce repeatedly off the planet, going higher each time to cover more distance. On very low gravity bodies it is actually possible to achieve orbit.

I am not so skilled, but I do appreciate the skill.

I was doing what should have been the simplest of on-foot missions to collect an item from a locker, but it was complicated a bit when I found the entire settlement was raised about 50 feet off the ground when I got there...

Fortunately though, the gravity was not only low enough for me to jump up into the base to do the business, but also to board my taxi at the end.

I think the buildings' anchorage wasn't properly calculated for the gravity on this planet...

Cool. I don't know how I wasn't aware of this during four years of playing and subbing to Elite channels.

What happens when you achieve orbit though? Do you just end up a corpse who died screaming in the vastness of space?

I don't know if it's something unique about the system or it's just the current state it's in, but I've almost used up all my 20+ collector limpets in CD-45 973 on encoded emissions signals. A few of them have been high grade emissions too, which is great because imperial shielding is grade five and I just used most of mine to trade down. I've not even attempted to engineer my Imperial Eagle so I don't need them for now.

I'm gonna bookmark it anyway, in case it's a long term thing.

Usually it's the state that determines which and how many emissions signals you will find.

The engineering system is so buggy. I was just about to start the long drudge of meeting Lei Cheung's requirements but he was fully unlocked by the time I reached my first system. Though it was on my way to do some signal farming in a war state anyway.

I think I've only had to meet the rquirements for two engineers so far. Not counting things you have to do in order to actually receive an invite.

I hoped that wouldn't be the case and I just found a nice spot in the bubble. 'None' doesn't seem to be a particularly special or unusual state though.

Yeah, I had quite a few engineers I was still working on unlocking in Legacy completely unlocked once my forced transition to Odyssey (thanks, steam...) had taken place.

None means that nobody really knows what's going on or what's coming next. (Although I'm pretty sure some insightful commander out there knows exactly what is going on and what comes next...)
