Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Biome or not, I still think a coastal pack would go insanely hard. Not as our last pack, but maybe for a Planet Zoo 2 or something.

A scenery pack with say, a sea otter, a walrus, a pelican, and some sort of oddball shorebird like a pied avocet. Maybe some sort of crustacean - like the fan-favorite coconut crab - as an exhibit animal. Two unique, crowd pleasing carnivorans that aren't a cat, dog, or bear, two banger birds, and an exhibit species unlike any other.

The scenery could be nice too, even if it might be stuff we could already do in game with more pieces. Some nice, colorful clapboard for instance:

Or of course, the foliage could really sell the set here. Some more beach grass species, some nice, weathered rocks, coastal pines and/or palms, more aquatic plants, etc:

Alternatively, as an animal pack, ditch the scenery and add:

A seaduck species! A harlequin duck, spectacled eider, or a Chinese merganser for example.
The American flamingo. Another bird? Yeah, but its a "clone" and most of the best picks here are birds anyways, sue me.
The green sea turtle. I'll be real, I'm not a fan of this one as it would be feel out of place without the fully aquatic species that often accompany it, but it was the only option I could think of that wasn't another bird (I'm already pushing what's realistic lol) and I know it would make a lot of people happy.

If we want to push the definition of coastal to animals that are just sometimes found there, but not really associated with it nor permanently live there often, I certainly wouldn't mind shoehorning in an echidna lol. A gray fox could be one that comes to mind too - not my preferred option at all but certainly feels like one Frontier might throw in, especially if there are too many new rigs already.

Other picks could include a puffin species, - which I only didn't include due to debates as to whether they would look strange without flying as habitat animals/whether birds will ever appear in the walkthrough - or turning the coconut crab into a habitat animal.

I mean this would probably be one of my favorite packs ever. It would have my vote.

That’s probably exactly it. I think the same challenges apply to primates with how they climb, maybe how their tails work when they climb, could explain why the last 2 primates don’t have tails.

Also I should’ve specified, we haven’t had an antelope or Buffalo species in a scenery pack, cause we have had the RRH in the tropical pack. Buffalos and antelopes are the ones people usually skim over as they’re kinda boring the more we get them, at least to me.
Yeah and that’s been the issue with players like myself. While I’m sure the ungulates have been easier filler, I don’t think it would be too difficult to have got the American flamingo or a pheasant species like the golden pheasant. We can definitely use more options and filler for other animal groups. Now that we have the swan frontier has the opportunity to give us more waterfowl filler/options/species. The problem is if they will actually do it.

I mean i think you can do a really nice african safari type animal pack, but imo this late into the game its definetly preferable to extent the safari them to a more general scrub/savannah theme and cover india and patagonia aswell, since they need it more then africa does ( even though there are definetly a ton of african animals id still like.

And ngl im kinda afraid they would just once again boot out all the monkeys and birds and just fill an african safari pack with giraffe, 2 antelope, cat, bat eared, nile croc and honey badger :D
A safari pack that you said above could replace giraffe, one of the antelopes and Nile crocodile with a Patagonian mara, Some sort of baboon and of course Secretary bird or Grey-crowned Crane (I actually prefer the crane).
  • Patagonian Cavy
  • Hamadryas Baboon
  • Grey-crowned Crane
  • Blackbuck
  • Serval
  • Bat-eared Fox
  • Honey Badger
So the pack above includes a primate, a bird whilst still including an animal I have wanted from the beginning. And with the Cavy and the blackbuck (and partially the baboon and badger) it goes well beyond Africa.
All that said, I feel like one of my favorite zoo animals of all time could be somewhat represented if a Fennec could get some sort of greyish colormorph? I really also want the Sumatran Tiger but I feel the melanistic Bengal of small size is a decent substitute...

Say it were to be a £12.99 larger pack to finish and we were given 12 new animals, what do you think is the most likely animal to feature in each slot and how would Frontier balance the pack to try to please everyone as best as possible?

1. Coati
2. South American primate 1
3. South American primate 2
4. African terrestrial bird
5. Waterfowl
6. Hoofstock 1
7. Hoofstock 2
8. Hoofstock 3
9. Cat species
10. ???
11. Exhibit animal 1
12. Exhibit animal 2
Frontier would most likly ballance nothing and please no one besides the people that gave up on the pack anyways or just really liked a few animals subjectivly.
No matter how mid or downright bad a pack is, if you like whats in it your most likly pleased.
And if your favorites look something like american black bear, sumatran Tiger, serval, nile crocodile, american flamingo, white tailed deer, barbary macaque, random swan species, african antelope 1 + 2, congrats you might adore this ballanced pack that will make everybody else tear their hair out

Now that we have the swan frontier has the opportunity to give us more waterfowl filler/options/species.
It might not be that easy, for example if they give us pelicans, the beak will probably need a lot of attention especially when considering how it eats. I feel like similarly to the Saigas nose, they need to get the physics of the beak and how it moves just right so that it looks right. The pelican beak is almost like a fold of smooth plastic that when the pelican eats, it can pick up a fish with that flap folded in, then toss it up a bit into its mouth which then the flap can extend and flop around. So it needs to go from this:

To this:

Which I can imagine is pretty difficult. So while the rig of the swan can work, the head of the pelican is way more complex than the swans and would probably need some work put into it.

Well the Yak is the most iconic animal of the Himalayas, the most famous mountain range possibly on earth.
And then I choose the domestic version over the wild version because:
1. as far as I’m aware, there’s no wild yaks in captivity, but domestic yaks are very common
2. choosing the domestic version makes them a more versatile pick, being able to be included in not just Asian sections and Himalayan sections, but also Children’s Zoo and Barnyard areas and
3. A tonne of colourmorphs make this a more interesting looking pick as opposed to the wild yak, which only comes in one colour.
Two zoos in China have wild yaks in captivity. I will attach pictures later.

Just curious, what would your rivers pack look like?
My full delulu includes.
1. Yangtze finless porpoise
2. Mandarin duck
3. Arrau turtle
4. Squirrel monkey
5. Nile croc (A)
6. Gray heron (A)
7. Eurasian otter (A)
8. Giant salamander (Ex)
Not sure how scenery would look since Oceania came with stilt houses already.

Oh no... The next community challenge... I hope it doesn't mean we're getting an aquatic pack 2.0. Haha. I'd actually be pretty happy for the (at least some of) community though! AND it would be a good way to include new types. Hopefully some sea birds!

Rivers:
Great white pelican
Manatee
Red capped mangabey
Scarlet ibis
Nile crocodile
Père David’s deer
Fishing cat
WTE: Aquarium tunnel with fish

What do you think?
I would be pretty happy with that pack.
I just dont see us getting a manatee outside of an actual aquarium dlc, so id probably use its "new rig spot" for a large river turtle
And id prefer just having an aquarium as just a normal exhibit since thats a little more versatile imo

Frontier: “sea birds? Don’t know what those are. Don’t worry though! We have plenty cool animals in the coastal pack!”

The animals in the pack:

Oh look on the sea Ice! Its a big Walrus. Further south is the foraging Sea Otter. Closer to the shore welcome among the new semi-aquatic friends including the elegant Snorkel Doberman, the majestic Flipper horse, and the adorable Diving Cat. As always there is a box exhibit animal.

I know this is a joke but honestly i can totally see frontier throwing in the north ronaldsay sheep into a coastal pack, which is an ancient breed of sheep that almost exlusively eats seaweed.
Just the oddest of oddballs and the wildest of wildcards :D
