Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

The size or theme of the pack will probably tell us that.
I wouldn't bet on it, but here's hoping. As I and a few others have suggested, it's far safer to just assume this is going to be business as usual, a scenery pack, 4+1+200.

I think it's also important to remind everyone that Frontier will never explicitly say when support is ending. They never did for Planet Coaster for example. The last pack was released, and sure it had a bit more content than usual, but they never actually said, "this is the last pack." The reason I want to point this out is because if our next and probably final DLC is just business as usual, for whatever reason (budgetary, staffing, etc), that doesn't mean there are more coming.

You are right of course, it is entirely possible that even if it will be the last pack, it does not mean it will be bigger, especially now that they had to make such a drastic measures and lay off people and cut resources. It is possible that they will take the last few animals they had in progress and release them as a last pack just so the work already done is not wasted. In that case, we would not recognise if it is the last or not, but if the theme is something like all around the world pack, then I would aasume that it was all planned in advance to be the last pack...

Who knows. I was always rather optimistic in the support ending debates, up until the lay offs and the latest financial results. Now I am fully prepared for this to be the last pack, but still hoping there could be more, even if the chances for that are really slim.

Agree 100% The consequence is that if it’s a normal pack it tells us nothing whereas, if it’s a slightly larger pack, it suggests end of support.

I really want Blackbuck but would never trade sloth bear for it. It’s my favorite bear and in my opinion was a perfect addition to the Eurasia pack.
You guys are really hard to please sometimes. You’ve been very critical to arid pack for being ungulate heavy and now you are willing to trade perfectly made carinvore for another ungulate?
It’s a little confusing for me but I respect it

Imo its not confusing at all.
No one or atleast the vast majority isnt saying that the bear should be the black buck, but that the indian rep should be the black buck.
India allready had 2 bears but is lacking in ungulates with the indian rhino and wild boar being the only ones we got afaik, aswell as the obvious bird and monkey.
Most people would have most likly preferd swapping out the saiga and sloth bear for the black buck and a monkey to fill up indias holes instead of a neat but unneeded antelope for the central asian steppe, a biome that unlike india isnt particulary important to zoos, and another bear that most likly took up significant development time with its shaggy fur while being just a fuzzy sunbear without piggy back rides.
The fact alone that the wisent managed to not even be the second most controversial animal in its pack says alot and its really a shame as the black buck, lion tailed macaque, gray hulman, golden snub nose monkey, himalayan monal and even the pallas cat would all have been easy and uncontroversial picks to fill up the asian side of the pack, but saiga and sloth bear is what we got, typical frontier making questionable choices that make not much sense

Looking at the packs which were released, we already had the following continents:
Arctic: 1 pack
North America: 1 pack
South America: 1 pack
Africa: 2 pack (if we include the arid pack)
Australia/Oceania: 2 packs
Southeast Asia: 1 pack
Eurasia: 1 pack
Europa: 1 pack

And biomes:
Grassland, wetlands, aquatic, tropical

Other:
Conservation, twilight pack

So looking at this they already covered all continents pretty even, but Asia if dominating a lot, if we see how they are also being included in the biomes related DLC packs. Since Australia/Oceania and Africa has already two packs and they are also included in the other packs, I think these three continents are pretty much of the radar. Still putting my hopes up for another South America pack. But what I think is that when this will be the final DLC, it will be a pack with animals from multiple continents. I think the current DLC's covers everything (of course still animals are missing), but it is not needing a continent fixed DLC.

I think a coati (South America), babboon (Africa), American black bear (North America) could be animals which would be coming to a final pack. Maybe some aquatic addition (walrus) and probably some ungulate from Asia.

Whatever they will release, nobody will be pleased, because I think everybody is hoping for birds/aquarium animals, but I suspect they would keep something like that for possibily a Planet Zoo 2.

Every single serious person at this point knows Frontier is keeping new features for sequel. What left for this game are mostly cosmetic options.
Yeah I think the same, but I also play F1 Manager, which they are making and for this year game they are doing things differently and releasing it for a much lower price then the first 2 editions, because they understand it is mostly an updated database of the 2024 roster with some new additions. So lets hope this can also mean they are looking into new options for the future of Planet Zoo.

I know it will never happen, because if birds/aquarium animnals will come they will most likely come in a new game, but for me a very big DLC (for lets say € 25) with birds and a second one for marine life would also be really nice. Let say 20 animals per DLC. A PZ2 will most likely come with upgraded graphics, but what I would really miss is that we will most likely also lose a lot of the animals from PZ1. And I think this type of game really need a diverse selection of animals. It is not a rollercoaster game where you create new parks over and over again and can make new rollercoasters with the same assets, but when you have created an exhibit for wolves, you don't want to keep making exhibits with the same wolves. And that will also happen with PZ2 (if it will ever come). We still will be making exhibits with wolves, savanna themed exhibits with giraffes and zebras.

Say it were to be a £12.99 larger pack to finish and we were given 12 new animals, what do you think is the most likely animal to feature in each slot and how would Frontier balance the pack to try to please everyone as best as possible?

1. Coati
2. South American primate 1
3. South American primate 2
4. African terrestrial bird
5. Waterfowl
6. Hoofstock 1
7. Hoofstock 2
8. Hoofstock 3
9. Cat species
10. ???
11. Exhibit animal 1
12. Exhibit animal 2

Well "balance the pack to try to please everyone" isnt something that frontier excels at. Its a hard task for sure, but also not that hard to aleast show the spirit of trying.
And letting the monkey enjoyers rot in the dark for over 3 years and once per year throwing a little bone to the reptile and bird (until recently) fans isnt showing that spirit of trying particullary well imo.
With 10 habitat animals i cant really bring myself to expect more than one monkey max and maybe 2 birds, the secretary and something simple like rhea or flamingo, but more likely just 1.
So all in all 70-80% spots are gonna go to hoofstock and carnivorans and the other mammals, birds and reptiles are gonna have to fight for the last 30-20% as per usual. Who is gonna win that fight is everyones guess really

I'm just going to copy the list i come with in the "Completing the game in 10 animals topic".

1. Southamerican primate (howler most likely, spider as close second, specially if the rest are mostly clones since it would be "the porcupine" of this pack)
2. Coati
3. Mara
4. Rhea
5. Pelican
6. Duck
7. Hamadryas baboon
8. Grey crowned crane
9. A rabbit
10. Popular animal 1 (blackbuck, secretary, ABB, spectacled bear, markhor, musk ox, walrus, Palla's cat)
11. Popular animal 2 (idem as above, could be second southamerican primate) - could also be Exhibit box animal (cobra? Chameleons?)
12. Exhibit animal, probably WTE, slight chance of a single flying birds type (if JWE is anything to go by)

Absolutely. I've never really even hoped for birds or aquatic animals because you just knew they were never coming. When/if PZ2 comes, birds and aquatic animals will be the MAIN selling point and be front and center in the promotion and marketing.

I know what you did there sir. I do speak spanish

Lol
I don't think that's intentional though. The diorama represents the flying island from Castle in the Sky, you can see characters and scenes from the movie, for example, the giant robot or a scene in a train.
Castle in the Sky is a Japanese production by Studio Ghibli and it's a movie for children. A very beautifully animated movie with, a great storyline. I think they might not be aware of the word's Spanish translation. I just don't see any connection to that meaning in this story. Maybe they should have checked, but it's a movie from 1986, so maybe let's give them the benefit of the doubt.

Besides the meme this is also why I’m sure the last pack won’t be balanced out how we (I mostly) would want it to go.

If the last pack was “balanced” it would try to make up some of the missing roster slots for monkeys, birds, and some habitat reptiles. Especially considering all the other dlc didn’t really do that too well. I mean anyone who has wanted a monkey hasn’t got one, I think in over 1,000 days? Yeah while birds have been doing better, this was over the course of 4 years, and only recently did we get a new bird group since the crane I think? That of course being the mute swan. Habitat birds are still pitiful though, especially considering the wealth of options for other animal groups. For reptile fans Africa has no crocodile, another tortoise is usually recommended, and I know people would like a non-monitor lizard like the tegu.

Unfortunately Frontier will most likely do business as usual. For the final dlc I do think they will fix it a bit, just not enough.

My dream scenario would of course be four new packs to round out the last year of support. Although not necessarily likely, I don’t believe the next pack will be the last, and so here’w my offer at four final packs:

DLC: Children’s Zoo Pack🐇
April 2024
  • Dutch Rabbit
  • African Spurred Tortoise
  • Common Mallard
  • African Dwarf Goat
  • Reticulated Python (E)

DLC: New World Animal Pack🗺️
July 2024
  • White Nosed Coati
  • Geoffroy’s Spider Monkey
  • Wild Turkey
  • North American Black Bear
  • Roosevelt Elk
  • Muskox
  • Pacific Walrus
  • Hoffman’s Two Toed Sloth (WE)

DLC: Mountains Pack🏔️
October 2024
  • Domestic Yak
  • Alpine Marmot
  • Gelada
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Chinese Giant Salamander (E)

DLC: Aviary Animal Pack🦜
December 2024
  • Scarlet Macaw, Blue and Yellow Macaw and Military Macaw (WE)
  • Scarlet Ibis
  • Roseate Spoonbill
  • American Flamingo
  • Victoria Crowned Pigeon
  • Secretary Bird
  • Greater Rhea
  • Rainbow Lorikeet (WE)

But, having said that, IF there only is one more pack, I doubt we’d be getting any flying birds or much in the way of new content. I’d personally choose a Children’s Zoo Expansion Pack:

DLC: Children’s Zoo Expansion Pack🐇
May 2024
  • Dutch Rabbit
  • African Dwarf Goat
  • Black Capped Squirrel Monkey
  • White Nosed Coati
  • Common Mallard Duck
  • African Spurred Tortoise
  • Scottish Highland Cattle
  • Reticulated Python (E)
