b2 Carinae. Worthy of GalNet article?

I don't know if any Devs or community managers will read this, but I'll give it shot.

For the past 6 months, conflict has ensued between Federation factions and Imperial factions in the system b2 Carinae. It has gained alot of traction with system status War breaking out this week, with Inara stats listing at time of this writing +840 cmdrs in system.

Here is the original post on Reddit bringing awareness to this conflict:

This war is completely player driven. Coordination on both sides have taken place and it is so cool to see what is happening there.

This is the kind of stuff that makes this game so unique and why many of us keep coming back to this game after so many years. It is so awesome to see the coordination, the drama, and the opportunities for amazing action with conflict zones that mixes PvP and PvE.

I think the sheer value of this kind of player created narrative and the different communities coming together to fight a shared idealogy deserves a spot on GalNet for the whole player base to see.

I have seen this war on the Reddit sub and was quite surprised! What a great thing that player-driven events like that, that worth a GalNet article, are happening!

This! This is the gold mine FDev is sitting upon. They have the knife and the butter in their hands to promote player-driven things in this game and I genuinely believe that it would bring so much life and good things.
  • Give players more control over stations and star systems.
Let the roleplay flow. We already have a solid lore base with the Federation, Empire and Alliance. Make it so that the players:
1. Can close star system borders to enemy players or make the system security hostile to them. It would create a safe place for PVE players inside the territory of a major faction.
2. Allow the players to control the commodities market, using real-world mechanisms such as sanctions and taxes.
3. Allow the players to develop a production chain in their systems so they can produce resources to build new infrastructure and improve security, etc.
4. Do you dislike how things are done? Allow the players to build their own stations, create their own minor factions and have true control over them. Land is not a problem.
  • Give players more control over PowerPlay
What if instead of Archon Delaine being the King of Kumo Crew forever, why not let a player take this role? And just like the lore, if another player challenges and kills the King, it becomes the King. There could be some sort of politics to control him/her but the intention is to make the Major Factions decisions and overall history more player-driven.

Imagine the sort of histories that could be written. Imagine that a guy likes the Thargoids just for the fun of it and creates a faction to support them. Instead of attacking them, it would attack people who attack the Thargoids. What reactions would this cause in the Galaxy? Or a faction of merchants that hire a faction of mercenaries to protect them against a faction of pirates. All player-driven. Oh, the articles on the GalNet.

Come now Cmdr, no-one likes PvP in this game. And BGS and powerplay are purely PvE activities😉.

I've seen 13th legion carriers, and several EDF carriers in system already, which shows how highly this war is getting on the attention scales, theres even been rumours of federal and imperial terrorists targetting surrounding system to intercept damaged ships retreating to repair.
But when it comes to sneak attacks while everyone is focussed on the xeno threat... well thats the empire for you.

Anyway.. I have a nice 'conda so I can make a shedload of money selling arms to both sides :D

I think that the Thargoid fleet leader(s) would actually quite happily watch us fight among each other… looking at how Oya is about to meet a giant fly swatter.

Figuratively speaking, considering how prohibitively large and expensive an actual Titan swatter would be. And that it would likely be single use.

It's not the only human conflict out around the thargoids, Close Encounter Corps is fighting the various marlinist factions for years already, while they lost their home systems to another faction and had it attacked (and IIRC controlled) by thargoids. Other PMFs out there also indulge in war. Humans are strange... I hope once the thargoids are booted out, that we get a huge empire vs federation war, and that the game gets more fleshed out for both ship and on foot combat and war.

Tell me when you read "Hengist Duval is dead" that wasn't your expectation? That's the kind of statement that foreshadows galactic turmoil. But then I guess we got distracted by the protracted implementation of some of the most inane game mechanics ever conceived for a video game, none of which would ever support an interesting galaxy scale war (hello Powerplay!). :p

This is inaccurate, given that PP conflicts even now go from system level (scaling to multiple system) warfare to destabilze a bubble and then on top of that the effort to take a system.

So although this war is interesting, PP groups do this sort of thing all the time- have a read of weekly events and you'll see it going on.

On topic:

Player submitted Galnet used to cover this sort of thing quite a lot- however it got harder and harder to keep such small scale conflicts interesting given war is quite common. Late in player submitted Galnets run these stories would often go to local news in stations.

Do agree with original poster and think player generated content like this could bring more player involvement into the game, if highlighted on Galnet. The B2 Conundrum certainly motivated me and a large number of other players I know of to join the cause and in my opinion the right one not being biased at all. Maybe worth seeing if we could get a content creator e.g Burr Pitt or someone similar to mention, as this would probably bring it more into focus with FDEV.
