I would could make the argument that the lemurs kinda fill the small tropical climber niche and the mandrill and apes are all tropical aswell, so a baboon being an arid species would provide something different.
But in the end i think both a baboon and more typical monkey are the two last essential africa mammals, the baboon just ever so slightly more
I don't want the walrus either (or rather don't care if we get it or not) but how do You know we are not getting it for sure? It has more chances than half of the top in the metawishlist tbh.
Im not really dying for the walrus either. I mean its really cool, but the seal and sea lion got my piniped needs mostly covered.
It also doesnt fit in to many packs either or more accurately the packs that it fits in arent that likely imo. An americas or farewell pack sure, but there is some heavy competition. But the pack themes where it would be a natural or obvious pick like a coastal or polar one arent that likely, because for both there arent really that many requested option in comparission

It’s just my gut. And meta wishlist isn’t the be all end all as demonstrated in the last dlc with the animals everyone wanted such as the iconic Hill Radnor Sheep.

I don't want it either but just cause you say we aren't getting it doesn't magically mean it won't get added.
We've been over this in the past though, the exception made for last pack was because the overall theme was heavily wanted, its similar to the monkey situation. Most people want monkeys, but they can't decide on 1 to go to the top - most people want petting zoos, but they can't decide what animal to go to the top to represent petting zoos. Petting Zoos were never a one and done thing, with the meta wishlist animals if we get the top 1 everyone is happy, but if we got 1 petting zoo animal it wouldn't be enough, we need a whole variety, so less about a specific species, moreso about the handful of animals needed to make those petting zoo sections.
Not really a hot take. If either are on the table, they'll only give us one. Hamadryas makes the most sense because it's actually a baboon, and baboons are a D species alongside the ABC's, whereas geladas are more niche (in terms of common perception, I know they are still fairly common in zoos).
I'd only accept the gelada over an actual baboon out of sheer desperation.
I mean, and let's be honest; worst case scenario is that we'll need a mod for 1 or the other. Preferably I'd want both officially, but let's get real; ain't gonna happen.
So, even if we get a gelada over a hamadryas (or vice versa), the other one is still doable for modding
A new species mod is simply not a scenario as far as I'm concerned.
You don't have to accept it, I'm just being realistic here. We aren't gonna get everything we want. At least, in the case of baboons/baboon-like animals, if we get one we can get the other unofficially
It exists in at least one zoo and can go on land, that seems like just about the only requirements for habitat species (though even being in a zoo looks pretty flexible, and being on land is based on current keepers and gates).
It has a different diet I guess, they definitely won't put in molluscs in for them, but the Flamingo and Platypus diets aren't really in the game either, so they would just give it fish and call it a day.
Statistically, you could say every specific animal isn't coming, even if next isn't last (could be at most tens coming, out of hundreds of wanted species, subspecies and breeds).
Mesite, now that's a group of species that's off the table, probably under the couch cushions (they don't seem to be in any zoos at all, which seems kind of strange given a pretty general diet).
With console unable to use mods, we're probably going to see mostly similar stuff till the end, so if one comes, I wouldn't be surprised at the other following.
