DLC18 discussion and predictions

So for a keeper collection pack, I’d imagine they choose species that are both popular in general and wanted among the community - but also animals that are somewhat easy to make. So I would think a duck or pelican and baboon are strong contenders, probably the most known bird and primate of the ones we don’t have.

From there, I would add 1 species for South America, either a monkey, coati or the ocelot, depends how much they really wanna milk the concept of a “fan favourites” pack. Another African species also seems probable - my pick would be either Gerenuk, Aoudad or Honey Badger.

3 spots to go, North America also needs some rep, so I would either choose Musk Ox or Walrus - Musk Ox would be easier to do but we’ve also gotten a lot of Buffalo species lately, so idk.

So that’s the main continents covered excluding Oceania considering it just got an entire pack (the tree too is possible but heavy on work needed) now onto the animal groups needed, birds and monkeys as the front runners of course. A South American monkey is a no brainer and would be the most unique of the pack, but for the bird I think if we’re thinking about what would be easiest to make, a Rhea or pheasant would be the ideal picks.

So in short, this is my starter idea:
  • Waterfowl (Duck/Pelican)
  • Hamadryas Baboon
  • Ocelot
  • Greater Rhea
  • Honey Badger
  • Musk Ox
  • South American Monkey (Howler most likely)
  • Chameleon as the Exhibit animal

Yeah i'm reading all the line ups. There is not a scenario in which i wouldn't be dissapointed with a final pack with 8 animals.

One has rhea but no coati, one has coati but no rhea, one has just one SA animal, mara nowhere to be seen, is either a duck or pelican but not both, etc.

NGL I’m gonna be a little bit disappointed if it follows the meta-wishlist completely and has the secretary as the only bird, especially when there are so many “basic” species missing like Victoria crowned pigeons, one of the more common African birds (Guineafowl, crowned crane, ground hornbill), a duck, etc, etc. etc. The rest of the pack would still be good, and tbh I’m kinda prepared to be a little dissatisfied with my lil’ feathery guys, but the fact that we’ve never had more than one bird in an animal pack is kinda ridiculous.

I’d be fine with it if it’s the secretary + plus a more versatile species, but otherwise it’s gonna feel like a bit of a slap in the face if it’s just the secretary.
I got to be honest, I would be “alright” with how the final dlc will be based on the meta wishlist. But if they were be a time Frontier should listen to the community I would hope it would be now. They gave us a massive barnyard pack based on the community wishes, and no barnyard animal was above 100 on the meta wishlist. I hope they do the same with this final pack.
  1. South America
  2. Baboon
  3. Monkeys
  4. Birds
I also agree, I recognize others really want it, but I would prefer something besides the secretary bird. Now if we got the secretary bird and another one, I wouldn’t feel as bad.

I almost always jink it with speculation, but lol here's what I'm thinking as one possibility:
  1. Coati
  2. Any SA monkey
  3. Baboon
  4. Tree Kangaroo
  5. Walrus
  6. A representative from a group of animals I desperately want and won't even name out of fear of jinxing it
  7. A habitat reptile
  8. If it's 9.99 pack, I can see them throwing us a bone and giving us more than one exhibit animal.
I'm seeing muskox a lot, I wouldn't sneeze at it necessarily, but after Barnyard, doesn't the highland cattle kinda feel fulfilled their niche? They're literally a fuzzy cow!

🤓 It's a sheep akshually

I don't necessarily want it or need it at this point. But if I'm making realistic speculations I'm assuming they plan these ahead for long time and use "older" wishes. With that I wouldn't be surprised to see Musk Ox

Edit: Come to think of it that maybe the collateral damage of unexpected themes or singular picks. They might unexpectedly cover craved niche, which later down the road, makes once wanted animal less desirable

Unfortunally think the last pack Will be something like this

1. Coati
2. SA monkey
3. Baboon
4. Tree kangaroo
5. Secretary
6. American flamingo
7. American black bear
8. Second sloth for WTE

I just hope that if they’re going to double or triple down on groups some more, they give it to the ones that actually need it. It’s irritating that getting a crowned crane and a guineafowl, a rhea and a scarlet ibis, a duck and a pelican, etc is insane while getting 4-5 artiodactlys or carnivorans is just perfectly fine and dandy despite being far less broad groups than birds, as with the latter it always feels like it has to be one or the other. Two birds should not be this high of a standard.

If we get a fourth animal pack in a row with more than two or even three ungulates I’m gonna be really bummed, especially if this does end up being the last pack. We’ve gotten more ungulates in the past year than birds in the entire game. I know I doom post about ungulates a lot - and I’m so sorry if it annoys some people - but it’s just getting sad at this point how unbalanced the games roster is. I’ve never been to a zoo that has more antelope alone than the entirety of birds.

I miss when animal packs were the highlights of the year and not the weakest parts, and I wish they kept up the standards of Grasslands, Wetlands, and NA. At least Barnyard was decent even if it had some awful breed choices, and yet even it could’ve benefitted from just a tiny bit more diversity (yes, a lot of ungulates did make sense here, but I don’t believe a donkey, alpaca, or even sheep add more to the game than a duck, goose, Guineafowl, or rabbit could’ve.)

If we get a second sloth before a chameleon I will say a lot of not-nice things!

Not realistic, has two birds in it. Probably could also use one less primate. Also replace the bear and the other two slots with ungulates. Then it will be realistic!

I know it’s not your personal want, but even giving the pack another bird like the American Flamingo greatly ups the value of the secretary bird in my eyes.

I think there is some hope, but we are now stuck in the “we will see” limbo. Which is not fun. Looking at the past couple years, it’s not looking great for us bird people. Even if we got the secretary bird, I don’t think that would be the bird I would pick to be the final option.

Hopefully Frontier sees the unused swan rig and uses it.

  1. Coati
  2. Black Howler Monkey
  3. Ocelot
  4. Secretary Bird
  5. Tree Kangaroo
  6. Walrus
  7. Blackbuck or Markhor
  8. Exhibit: Cobra or chameleon
For me, this is a nice balance of getting SA more representation while working in other worldwide picks.

The ocelot and blackbuck would be the "simpler" critters in the pack. The ungulate picks would also pull-in some Asian representation to make it a truly "global" pack. The coati, howler monkey, tree kangaroo, and walrus would require a bit more work obviously but none of them are off the table, and they certainly wouldn't be "too much work." Each has at least one rig that could be used as a strong starting point and at least one (probably multiple) animation sets that could be applied and modified. From what I can tell, the secretary bird would be the trickiest of the bunch in that regard but I could be wrong...

Personally, I'd prefer basically any other NA animal to the walrus, even something more "basic" like a black bear or river otter. But the walrus is highly requested, would bring in NA rep, and work-in something aquatic. Although I could see a NA pick being waterfowl... I'd like that more honestly...

There's obviously a host of other things I'd want/hope to see (e.g., flighted birds!) but I don't necessarily expect so I'm not even bothering. Haha.

All animals i want (minus the walrus) yet feels so lacking. Like i said there isn't an 8 animal pack roster variation that i will feel content with for a final pack.

What could come close to me would be something like this though:

1. Coati
2. Howler
3. Rhea
4. Pelican
5. Tree roo (mostly because people want it, i would personally choose something else)
6. Secretary
7. Musk ox / Blackbuck

But i know is unrealistic.

Also the modded secretary seem to work very well on the crane rig. It just needs specific animations and remove some other ones.

JWE2 is not their IP, so they might not finish it on a note like Planet Coaster. Maybe we get lucky and we do get the bigger pack. We don’t have a confirmation for when it comes out, in fact I don’t think steam has shown any updates. So they may be working on it for a bit longer.
