DLC18 discussion and predictions

Pz is one the few games where i am completelly uninterested on mods, mainly because most mods looks and sound really bad, imo.
There are some great mods. At least in model and texture. There are very talented modders that can't name because rules but they do high quality animals. The ones that don't work for me are the ones that need very specific animations or sounds or behaviours that can't be replicated through modding (for now). The rest if they look great and don't sound too disruptive are great for variety or falling the gaps that the official game Will leave.

The ones i just can't use because are too immersion breaking for me are the bird mods based on things like capuchin monkeys and Wolverine. And some aquatics mods. But for things like ungulates and carnivores, some bird types, etc, they are pretty great.

I really wish that i could enjoy mods as much as you, but for me even the best mods doesn't look that good, even simple animals from good mods such as rhea or that north african ostrich mod looks 'ok' at best compared to the models they are based on.

Im not saying that modders are bad at making them or skilless, afterall doing mods for pz is already a massive challenge, it's just that i have a high standart when it come to models and what i expect to see in mods (I came from the ark: SE community after all, and there some mods, such as ark additions that are extremelly good).

Oh the rhea mod is not good though haha

That's also why i want it SO much made by Frontier. Unless a new improved version comes out.

And tbh honest some mods look best that some official animals (looking at you Highland cow)... and well remasters are key to enjoy the base game animals. A lot of them have aged badly.

Have a look at some of the recent mods based on recent dlc animals, the formula for the success of new animals mods is simple : Higher quality base animal = higher quality mod. The animals based off the mute swan are among the best mods there is and some are up to frontier standards. Just sadly sounds will never be right unless another modding breakthrough occurs.

The short answer: it's possible, perhaps not likely. We have no idea.

The last few years the gap between Spring and Summer DLC has been the shortest of the year, between 10-12 weeks. This year there are a couple of factors which could make a difference though:

- the console release meant the spring DLC came 3-4 weeks later than usual

- the next pack might be the last (we don't know this but there is a lot of speculation in that direction) - so it might come later in the year and perhaps be a bigger finale pack.

What we will definitely get though in June is the financial report for the year, which will probably clear up whether support is ending for PZ or if they want to continue to pursue it. It's still a major part of their revenue so we'll see. There are some big new games in the works so they might be redirecting their resources.
Thanks for this very clear and complete answer!!

Funny that you mentioned the swan mods, because i recently take i look at then and aside from the black swan, none of them impressed me.

The only mods that i would use cuz i liked them are remasters and that rabbit one (only good thing that quokka bring, lmao).

I find it very hard to say when the next pack will come.
At first i thought the barnyard pack was already finished for a while but delayed to give the console edition the spotlight, so we will get back the the usual cycle with a release in june.
Buut now i kinda think, since were getting 3 animal packs in a row the animal devs at frontier have more work on their hands than with the usual alternateing releases.
Which would explain why the barnyard pack was kinda lacking in quality in some areas despite the longer timeframe and relatively simple animals.
So im now leaning more towards release in like fall. And this probably also could mean that the next and probably final DLC will not be the saviour everyone is hoping for, delivering a bunch of crazy animals.

Im familiar with the ark additions mod, and i dont really think its extremely good.
Its probably more that ark already has a sorta stylized and a little cartoonish artstyle for their creature, which is probably easier for modders to replicate and match than the very realistic artstyle planet zoo is going with

So they give the sand cat the correct sounds but not the donkey and tasmanian débil that were probably much easier to source 😂
Arid pack - obscure sand cat barking video is evidence for unique sounds ✓
Oceania - just tweak the raccoon sounds for the Tasmanian devil , no one's gonna notice (they noticed)
Barnyard - just give the donkey horse sounds, no one's gonna notice (they noticed)

No hope for the next dlc with this trend lol

They do the same with animals.

Barnyard: they've been asking for a duck this is the perfect opportunity to reuse the swan rig and give them what they want! So, here is a donkey with wrong sounds and we forgot the characterisitic mark on it's back. No need to thank us.
