DLC18 discussion and predictions

Now im sure this has been brought up on this thread before, but it crossed my mind recently. I dug up the Planco dictionary that was mentioned way back when. I looked start to finish, and found a few tidbits that might hint what's left to come;
  • Goodfellow
  • Echidna
  • Baboon
  • Hamadryas
  • Howe
  • Javan
  • Suriname
  • tibet
  • Macaw
  • Mamba
  • Screamer
  • Secretary
  • Vulture

It could easily mean nothing that some of these words were in the planco dictionary, but you never know, right?
If it actually means something, it’s frustrating that the only South American related thing is Macaw which I’m very confident isn’t coming.

words like Coati Mara and Howler would make me feel better. Of course, the Spectacled Bear, Spider Monkey and Brazilian Porcupine could already be covered as they use no brand new words

South America underrepresented once again? Color me surprised

Yeah more Africa rep instead! What we all needed!

So I know not many people would care for another flamingo, and I know that I’m an American Flamingo apologist. But recently I have found the Chilean flamingo to be very interesting! I think it has a couple elements that make it unique to the greater flamingo and make it a bit more than a reskin:
  1. It’s smaller, so it will stand out as with a different silhouette
  2. It’s more pink, with less white than the greater flamingo
  3. It’s a full South American bird, and also a mountain animal
  4. This I find the most important: it can be found outside year round! A number of zoos keep them out even during the snow!
I like to make some zoos based around where I live in the US, and outside of the mute swan I don’t have many birds that like the cold. I think this could be pretty cool!

Chilena flamingo over american flamingo always.

But, still a flamingo is lowest priority among SA animals. Gimme spoonbill ibis jabiru rhea seriema screamer pelican ducks any of those before another flamingo.

Oh definitely, I’m at the part where I want a new species/ group over repeating one.

Still, with all these other animal groups having options I would like more than 1 crane/ flamingo/ waterfowl. It’s nice we now have more than one gamebird (chicken and peafowl) and of course we have multiple ratites and penguins. But considering all the other animal groups that got boosted last year, it would honestly like having another flamingo as an option.

Yeah same here.
Its ceratinly nice to have different options for something like a flamingo, but i think its the wrong approach to flesh out one species/group/whatever like that when others are not in the game at all like ducks, pelican etc.

I mean vicuña, ocelot and Spec bear doesn't brother me as long as we also get coati, monkey, mara and rhea (or any bird).
They dont bother me per se. I just think SA has so many cool and unique animals to offer that picking animals you find in near identical shape on basicly every continent in case of ocelot and bear feels kinda wasting potential to me.
Its kinda like the addition of the dingo back in the day.

The problem I have with South America is it is known for all these amazing animals that are either:
  1. Poorly represented by the roster (monkeys, rodents, and ground birds)
  2. Not likely to get in the roster in sufficient amounts (exhibit box animals, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates)
  3. Or not gonna be in the roster unless Frontier is holding out on us (flying birds or fish)
With the most realistic South American roster being way more dull in comparison, considering most of the most interesting animals are just unlikely to be added. Not to say a vicuña, spectacled Bear, bush dog, and ocelot aren’t cool animals. They are all very cool, and would work well to flesh out the roster. The problem is in terms of gameplay they are also a bit more boring, and once again, for a continent know for its monkeys and birds getting more Carnivora and Ungulates would feel like a slap on the face. They would work out well if the roster was more than 8 animals, then I would be ecstatic to get them. The problem is they will make up 1/2 of a roster pushing some of the more interesting options out.

No shame to those who like those animals, in a vacuum I love them too. It’s just the best possible South American dlc I can envision could just never work out, and the one I can imagine Frontier giving us would seem dull in comparison. I would still buy it either way, I want all the animals. I just wish Frontier could go all out for it!
