Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Seems ole CaptainRichard 'retired' from SC and sold off his $50k account...

(He mumbles some fun sass into his beard in the full stream ;))

Amazing. Play a game for years, shill for the dev, spend insane money, and quit, all before the game is released.

Basically blew a ton of money thanks to other people and then ditches the game. I wonder how many of his viewers are still down the SC rabbithole and how many have followed his lead.

omg... are you saying, all these wonderful youtubers, streamers, influencas, content maker of this wonderful "content"... are in some way responsible for that mess?!?
Do you think they should feel responsible they have brought many gullible, naive people into spending ridicoulous amounts into that... whatever it is...?
No way! Blasphemy! They are just showing the incredible opportunities you have with this dream within a dream!

Some aspirational burble in China...

Star Citizen: Notes from Bar Citizen Shenzhen

Chris Roberts, Erin Roberts, Tyler Witkin, and John Crewe were fielding questions

1. Chris Roberts' workday is approximately 50% content review and 50% administrative duties, with him mentioning that he takes on additional reviews on his own time.

2. Squadron 42 will receive FULL Chinese localization (Voices, In-Game text), with Star Citizen coming sometime after (long-term). Erin mentions specifically "improvements to the online presence" of these non-English communities, and that they're actively fielding feedback from community members to what to prioritize next for their near-term work.

3. In addressing server issues that affect the latency of the Chinese community (Servers in Hong Kong), they mention that they're interested in expanding their server capacity and quality in the region, specifically mentioning the potential of working with a third-party Chinese company.

4. Engineering and the Resource Network was mentioned as specifically coming "With or just before 4.0". Longer term they mention plans for team-based communication, giving an example of a spotting ship that relays pings to other ships in their party.

5. Star Citizen 1.0 is clarified as the "First Full Release" of Star Citizen.

6. When talking about plans for longer distance engagements, they specified their design direction in relation to "Star Wars" and "The Expanse" as goals for their "visual feel" and clarified that the majority of combat will take place in this short range.

7. They confirm that their overall goal is to have every ship at a "gold standard" state for 1.0. The constellation, in particular was mentioned as an outdated example, which will be updated to the current standard between now and their initial 1.0 release. The Aurora and the Mustang were also mentioned, and they stated that their goal is to have them capable of completing all the "base gameplay loops".

8. Polaris is a week away from its "greybox gate" review and confirmed that a separate station will be required for the torpedo functionality. No pilot firing.

9. BMM has yet to receive any additional work, and the Nautilus is not in production.

10. Chris teased fishing as a want, but not as something that'll happen in the near-term.

11. For future potential animal eco-systems, they mention more creatures in the immediate future alongside 4.0, and that as they build up towards 1.0 more will be introduced - including both predators and prey.

12. They plan for having more items be "hard to obtain" through long-term investment and risky traversal, giving an example of a legendary weapon that would only be purchasable in a single area in Pyro that requires a certain level of reputation to obtain. They additionally mention that this would serve as a motivation for players for high value trade items to sell in a player economy.

13. Group bedlogging's return (having multiple people log out in a single ship) is something that will likely come in the distant future (sounding like next year at the earliest).

14. Larger ships are mentioned to be planned to have better utilization of their "empty space", as deeper ship interactions such as the Resource Network come online.

15. CIG mentions bigger plans for the Chinese region, talking about their recent investment in a "voice" for the region, as well as a new forum moderator proficient in the language.

The impression I got from that clip was he can't play even if he wanted to, for "reasons", ie he isn't allowed? Banned? Maybe he just meant he doesn't want to, but I'm not sure.

He went on to say this though:

Reckon he has cashed out in one form or another. (And the finality would suggest either grey-market account sale or partial official refund etc I guess?).

I just kinda liked the sass poking out from beneath the fuzz ;)

Yeah it was probably just me reading too much into him being dramatic. Can't really see what he could have done that would result in a game ban lol.

wait...

this one sounds like most of the money came from audience and fans and so on...

So in some way he just took the money shameless from backers, like others already did too? :ROFLMAO:

His income from streaming paid for his SC account...nothing unusual in that sense, they all do it. Captain Richard was only unusual in that he persistently crowed about it 🤷‍♂️

Oooh, fun thread, with an OG backer saying CIG aren't making the game they backed and being shouted down for it..

Asking for the unaskable.

I always got the impression that he was fairly well off to start with anyway. Either family money or had a very good job, and streaming was more his hobby. But he clearly indicated that his stream revenue contributed to his JPG addiction, but now he's free of it.

He already had a steady streaming income before SC...a fairly notable one too... with Second Life. He bought into SC off the back of that. Very little (if any) of his own disposable income outside of streaming revenue was involved...

Besides his irritating penchant for mentioning his SC spending at every possible opportunity, his measly $50k truly pales into insignificance when compared to the likes of the Noobifier or Jorunn. Jorunn isn't a mainstream streamer, he's just silly rich. The Noobifier...he produces all sorts of sponsored content outside of his military day job (mainly sim hardware) which pays for his SC contributions, he's made no secret of it for sure but isn't quite as irritating as Captain Richard was about bringing it up at every given opportunity.

The Noobifier and Jorunn are both supporters and fans of SC in every sense...Captain Richard liked to give off the impression he was, but purely because he spent silly money on it. His interest was solely in the self perceived status he imagined the spending afforded him and not much more than that ;)

Did he not move into a house with other streamers, while pre-ordering expensive American sports cars?
I have no idea. My only regret is that he's gone and left before I managed to melt him into his tacky gold armour with my Prospectors mining laser... like I do on occasion with Jorunn as he ponces about on his bling barge yacht... I'm still on Jorunn's friends list strangely enough, even after mentioning (often) in the Spectrum concierge chat that Ci~G should produce a Jorunn plushie since he's the epitome of a stuffed space whale

To be fair to Jorunn, he's taken all my random Admiral's Club insolences over the years...and the occasional online armour melting... with good humour :)
