Star Citizen: Notes from Bar Citizen Shenzhen
Chris Roberts, Erin Roberts, Tyler Witkin, and John Crewe were fielding questions
1. Chris Roberts' workday is approximately 50% content review and 50% administrative duties, with him mentioning that he takes on additional reviews on his own time.
2. Squadron 42 will receive FULL Chinese localization (Voices, In-Game text), with Star Citizen coming sometime after (long-term). Erin mentions specifically "improvements to the online presence" of these non-English communities, and that they're actively fielding feedback from community members to what to prioritize next for their near-term work.
3. In addressing server issues that affect the latency of the Chinese community (Servers in Hong Kong), they mention that they're interested in expanding their server capacity and quality in the region, specifically mentioning the potential of working with a third-party Chinese company.
4. Engineering and the Resource Network was mentioned as specifically coming "With or just before 4.0". Longer term they mention plans for team-based communication, giving an example of a spotting ship that relays pings to other ships in their party.
5. Star Citizen 1.0 is clarified as the "First Full Release" of Star Citizen.
6. When talking about plans for longer distance engagements, they specified their design direction in relation to "Star Wars" and "The Expanse" as goals for their "visual feel" and clarified that the majority of combat will take place in this short range.
7. They confirm that their overall goal is to have every ship at a "gold standard" state for 1.0. The constellation, in particular was mentioned as an outdated example, which will be updated to the current standard between now and their initial 1.0 release. The Aurora and the Mustang were also mentioned, and they stated that their goal is to have them capable of completing all the "base gameplay loops".
8. Polaris is a week away from its "greybox gate" review and confirmed that a separate station will be required for the torpedo functionality. No pilot firing.
9. BMM has yet to receive any additional work, and the Nautilus is not in production.
10. Chris teased fishing as a want, but not as something that'll happen in the near-term.
11. For future potential animal eco-systems, they mention more creatures in the immediate future alongside 4.0, and that as they build up towards 1.0 more will be introduced - including both predators and prey.
12. They plan for having more items be "hard to obtain" through long-term investment and risky traversal, giving an example of a legendary weapon that would only be purchasable in a single area in Pyro that requires a certain level of reputation to obtain. They additionally mention that this would serve as a motivation for players for high value trade items to sell in a player economy.
13. Group bedlogging's return (having multiple people log out in a single ship) is something that will likely come in the distant future (sounding like next year at the earliest).
14. Larger ships are mentioned to be planned to have better utilization of their "empty space", as deeper ship interactions such as the Resource Network come online.
15. CIG mentions bigger plans for the Chinese region, talking about their recent investment in a "voice" for the region, as well as a new forum moderator proficient in the language.
