DLC18 discussion and predictions

I hate that zoo games always go for the Bird's tapir first.
Fun fact: the only reason why we got the baird tapir is because one of the dev really like it, im not joking.
I get it, it’s basically like the American black bear. Incredibly common in captivity where you are from, but other “options” exist even if they aren’t as good as what you need.

Still this is a game for a global audience, so it may not be appealing to everyone else, I really get it!

After all I’m a ride or die American Flamingo defender! I’m the best kind of garbage!
Actually the baird tapir is the "ABB" here, as the only place where baird surpass Brazilian tapir in captivity presence is North America

Ya know, I do think ungulates get a bad wrap around here a lot of it due to me. They are such a cool and diverse group of animals! While I still stand by that they are a very, very well represented animal group in game (to the detriment of other animal groups at times), I still feel like I should give them some more credit.

One of the main issues I have is that for many ungulates you will just build things in the same way, it can get very exhausting. So I have tried to find an ungulate I think would be unique to build for. Which isn’t the same as saying they need to be in game, or that they may help flesh out a regions representation. Because the two ungulates I am highlighting are from a very well represented region. Which is Africa! In fact these two little dudes are actually held together!

Say hello to the rock hyrax and the klipspringer! What makes these guys cool is that their habitats can be a lot more rocky than other animals, and while that may make them similar to the ibex and takin, I imagine these two can get a lot more verticality out of their habitats. They are also more visually unique compared to other animals in the roster, and the hyrax can also work in places like a small animal house. I’m not saying I want these guys over monkeys or birds, but I wanted to highlight some cool ungulates.

I feel like it's also worth pointing out that hyraxes aren't actually ungulates - they're part of paenungulata, which is Latin for "almost ungulate", but this group is completely unrelated to true ungulates and also includes animals like elephants and manatees. Given this, hyraxes wouldn't be contributors to further ungulate bloat in the PZ roster, and they'd even represent a new order of mammals (they'd also be the first afrotheres added since the base game).

Well the more you know! I was looking through a very old animal book I have and they had the elephants, manatees, and hyraxes all just under ungulates. Cool stuff thanks for the facts!

The problem is that every ungulate we get is either structured very similarly or you build for them the same. Saiga, donkeys, addax, gazelle, you build for them all the same. Even though on their own they look cool, they don’t excite people because there’s so many of them stacked pack after pack. So we either need less ungulates and spread out more, or ungulates that are unique to build for like the hyrax or aoudad.

Yeah thats kinda my take on it. Every ungulate from here on should have a VERY good reason for its addition, either by being something very unique like a dik dik and chevrotain, or adding something important missing from a region like a blackbuck.

But please frontier, limit yourself to doing like 2 a pack ...

I give you a very good reason from Frontier's perspective. Cheap and easy to make. Clone fest.

I hear you and i raise you that tons of other animals also can make for easy clones.
Throwing a new skin onto the proboscis monkey and making a grey langur for the eurasia pack shouldnt be much a difference from making the boar or saiga from existing animals for example.

it is no longer just a simple clone if you need to modify so much for it.

The rest are pretty much clones yeah.

Don't get me wrong, some of my most wanted animals are pretty much just clones, like the greater rhea and the grey crowned crane, but i don't think the Tree roo counts as one.
yeah replace tree kangaroo greater rhea

We’ve gone from “tree kangaroos are too hard for Frontier to make” to “tree kangaroos are clones” somehow lol.
pretty sure tree kangaroo was supposed to be in oceania pack but they switched it to quokka because quokka is "cute" cant lie they are cute though

they need to add a baby throwing animation if a dingo is chasing it

Charlie with all due respect - this is rubbish. You are going to far with that 🤯
