Autumn 2024 DLC Speculation

Ok so here's the reasoning behind my train of thought, assuming the Summer Pack is focused on Latin/Cental America/Rainforests and isn't the final DLC.

The in game biomes are as follows:
  • Aquatic
  • Desert
  • Grassland
  • Taiga
  • Temperate
  • Tropical
  • Tundra
Then we have the in game regions:
  • Africa
  • Antartica
  • Asia
  • Europe
  • North America
  • Oceania
  • South America
If we look at the packs we've had so far (excluding the 3 odd balls of Twilight, Conservation, & Barnyard and the Deluxe Upgrade) all are either region based or biome based, and we can associate an above region/biome with it:

Region Based DLC:
  • Africa Pack (Africa)
  • Arctic Pack (Antartica)
  • Australia Pack (Oceania)
  • Eurasia Animal Pack (Europe & Asia)
  • Europe Pack (Europe)
  • North America Animal Pack (North America)
  • Oceania Pack (Oceania)
  • South America Pack (South America)
  • Southeast Asia Animal Pack (Asia)
  • Hypothetical Latin/America/Rainforests Animal Pack in Summer 2024 (South America, North America)
Biome Based DLC:
  • Aquatic Pack (Aquatic)
  • Arid Animal Pack (Desert)
  • Grasslands Animal Pack (Grassland)
  • Tropical Pack (Tropical)
  • Wetlands Animal Pack (Aquatic)
So that leaves us with the biomes that haven't been used yet of Temperate, Taiga, & Tundra. Since this is the Autumn DLC Temperate would make the most sense here (imo) due to Autumn being typically associated with temperate forests (changing leave colors) especially with having just had the Eurasia pack which brought us several new Taiga animals and with the potential for a Winter 2024 pack that we receive either more cold weather animals or the final wrap up pack in time for the holidays.

So what could a Temperate Pack look like?
  • Mandarin Duck
  • Père David's Deer
  • Alligator Snapping Turtle
  • Mallard
  • Serval
  • Tanuki (Racoon Dog)
  • Nile Crocodile
  • Kakapo
  • Wild Turkey
  • Pallas Cat
  • Markhor
  • Eurasian Eagle-Owl
  • Guanaco
  • Aardwolf
  • Black Swan
  • Grey Fox
  • Burrowing Owl
  • Goodfellow's Tree-Kangaroo
  • Black Howler Monkey
  • Chilean Flamingo
  • Patagonian Mara
  • Greater Rhea
  • Honey Badger
  • Short-Beaked Echidna
  • North American Black Bear
  • Golden Pheasant
  • Elk (Wapiti)
  • Reeves's Muntjac
  • Southern Ground Hornbill
  • Wood Duck
  • Alpine Marmot

And if it's a Scenery Pack maybe some Native American pieces, log cabins, horizontal wood building set, etc.

/end this long wall of text phew lol
If we do indeed get an Autumn pack, a Temperate really does make sense but so does Taiga. There's some good picks for either, but most of the pack suggestions for Taiga have somewhat centered around the Pallas Cat, Spectacled Bear, Markhor and Gelada as the habitat animals. Which means of course that Frontier would include at most two of those.

Anniversary: Markhor?

I think the coming animal pack will be the final DLC for Planet Zoo 1, now we have 187 species so the final pack will likely offer 12 animals as a special farewell pack, plus one anniversary species so we will have 200 species at the end of support. Due to the financial hardship and shortage of staff, the Frontier doesn't have enough resources to work on new models, so the roster will contain mostly copy & paste species like what this Barnyard pack offers.

I agree about being the last pack with 12 animals. Disagree about being all no effort animals. I think the last pack would be delayed because animals will be highly requested ones and stuff like monkeys, tree ro, coati, secretary, pelican, etc take time to make right. And even if i don't like the barnyard pack things like the chicken and the textures on the alpaca and the sheep show that they did put work into them. Even so, a lot of metawishlist animals are clones in a way anyway. Just the spider monkey and secretary seem to be the most complex ones. The rest i can see being based on already existing animals in the roster.

JWE3 being a year away, it does look like the end of JWE2 pretty soon, that's fairly certain, sort of surprising it's gotten this close.

PZ on the other hand, the sequel is at soonest late 2026, so they can get away with more DLCs if it's profitable, which it might be, it might not (Player numbers on Steam do look a lot healthier than JWE2, but it is still a decline each year).

I wonder if there will be one more pack after the summer pack even, I hope this wont be the last thread for DLC speculations
I'm sure that even years after the last DLC has been released and the franchise servers are shut down and the game has been good and dead for a while, people will still be here to speculate DLC.

I got to be honest, now more than ever can we actually wait before we make a new seasonal speculation thread? There’s even less to talk about now, and the game is really really really seeming it’s about to end. I understand we have been saying that for awhile now, but there is “arguably” more evidence now especially with Frontier releasing PC2 on the horizon. Let’s slow our role before we make another 100 pages about birds, South America, and monkeys again.

If it ends up being just 1 more DLC in summer, then I presume atleast 1 more anniversary animal should be in it for us
Don't know about that, if there isn't a DLC after it, then it seems a bit strange to have an anniversary update. I could see us getting to a December DLC, but we'll see what happens.

On stream, there was near immediate confirmation of a DLC beyond Barnyard, so we might get another quick confirmation with the next release, though probably not.

With steamDB, for both JWEs it is pretty definitive, depot changes have completely stopped after the final minor update, but Planet Coaster has been pretty continuous (I'm guessing they use it for other projects somehow), so PZ might end up with a false heartbeat as well.

If August is the next DLC, that month seems to take both Summer and Autumn spots, depending on how you look at it (early Autumn in the case of JWE2, following the JP30 free update, and covid postponed Summer for the Australia pack, with no Autumn), so we might end up skipping to winter speculation, assuming it's not an obvious final pack (player's choice theme like JWE2, or more expensive DLC, like Planet Coaster & JWE1).

Seems like no summer and jump to autumn if no news next week.
thing is if its not august maybe early September we wont see it until winter because there is no way it will release so close to planet coaster 2 which has a autumn release so maybe we should all go to the winter thread instead. Also whilst the 3 weeks from streamdb updates is the norm they dont need that much time nor has its always been 3 weeks thats just the lowest or most consistent (cant quite remember) interval found.

I'm pretty sure Planet Coaster 2 releases in November, like all other games. So we have agust, september and october left. I don't see anyting comming after Planet Coaster release - I mean not for PZ. Not even an anniversary animal, if I'm honest.

😪
...I will enjoy this last wait for a DLC news.
Can you teach me how this enjoying thing works? 😂 I'm not even holding out on a project or are eagerly awaiting certain animals or am afraid I won't get animal XY, but I still just want to be done with all the speculating and waiting.
It's not as bad as usually tghough, because see above. I have no specific needs anymore when it comes to animals. I just want more shops.
