COMPLETED CG Utopia Appeal for Encoded Materials

Not sure what the creators of this CG were thinking making the completion numbers almost the same for both CGs (60 million for the cargo CG, 50 million for the mats CG).

These are encoded mats, they can be farmed only in limited number, and require you to go back and forth from mats traders, these are not micro controllers that you can just load up 792 into your cargo ship and dump at the station, rinse and repeat.

I hope the powers-that-be lower the tier and completion limits to something more realistic before the end.

I checked back through Inara records and it looks like the last mat CG was Nov 2021, for 2x grade 1 and 1x grade 2 mats, that hit just over 32% of the 48m target (tier 3/5). But that was a narratively competitive CG.

I like the idea of the CG trying to highlight the changes being made to the game, but the structure of this one is all wrong.

On a related note, why is it that the CR rewards for hitting each tier are hidden until the first tier is reached? Wouldn't it be better to put that information out up front? Does it make any narrative sense in-game that you're asking 100s of private pilots to do things for you and the CR reward is revealed as a surprise part way through? The more I think about it, the less it makes sense.

Hudson vs Winders encoded CG reached 100% at tier 8 for Hudson (160 millions data delivered). Winters didnt do as good but still reached a high tier too.

It's call a 'mystery' - the idea is that you decide you want to know the answer to the 'mystery' and work towards it. Mysteries are actually quite common in video games, and previously fdev have added 'mysterious things' into the game. Some people hated that too :D

I know it's always worked like this, and I've never really thought about it before, but now I have it makes no sense. The rewards for the CG in terms of paint jobs, or modules, or just narrative goodness are laid out fully in the description when the CG launches. But the amount of CR for each tier is...a surprise?

It's just hidden for....reasons.

Edit - and for the sake of argument, if this CG in particular advertised that the reward for each tier was some high value. You'd likely get a rush to participate, and that gets people trying out the changes to mat drops. And you might entice some people back to the game who are intrigued by the changes but on the fence. Win-win?

Trade and materials CGs in the past have tended to get very similar outcomes in terms of quantities - there's only been one other time that there's been both in the same week, and the material CG got 15.5M materials to the trade CG's 14M tonnes that time - but other material CGs have got similar results to trade CGs held the following or previous week.

The difference is that those materials CGs used G1 mats rather than G3, so you got nine times as many materials to hand in per collection run after trading down. That doesn't appear to have been accounted for at all when setting the targets for this one.

Though the trade CG target is also bizarrely high in its own right - of the 11 trade CGs held since the start of 2023 (not counting this one), only 5 have made it above 20MT.

these are not micro controllers that you can just load up 792 into your cargo ship and dump at the station, rinse and repeat.
It's not far off. Get 100 G5 materials in the most efficient way possible, self-destruct to get back to the CG station quickly, downtrade them to 900 G3 materials and hand them in.
If it was G1 and you were downtrading to 8100 G1 materials you'd obviously come out well ahead of the traders in that scenario - compensated for by it being even less interesting than A-B cargo runs so very few people would actually do that.

In the last head-to-head one, the top 10% materials delivery handed in twice the units of the top 10% trade delivery.

my 2 cents: when the Type 8 update came out with HUGE HGE and small encoded upgrade, why would they go with an Encoded material CG? Not sure if it is the paint job or the methods of the collection that failed this CG. I wanted that paint job though.

I appreciate a somewhat different CG from the usual. From the time I have been playing the game (a bit over two years now) I don't remember ever seeing this type of CG (if there has been during that time, I didn't see it or don't remember it). It's refreshing to have something a bit different for a change.

However, from all possible hits&misses, this probably missed by a country mile. It seems to me that people are not extraordinarily thrilled about donating encoded materials, especially when there's a simultaneous CG about trading quite easy-to-get (and quite profitable) commodities. I give this a 0% chance of getting anywhere even close to tier 1.

The scaling of the downgrade path is indeed the way to bring the materials to the CG. In this case there is the additional loss of trading across to a different material family if you're going to Jameson's Cobra (by far the best option).

Instead of the 9:1 boost it is 3:2, plus the T4 -> T3 cross family trade as well at 1:2. Polevnic also has an encoded trader so no detours either.

As of today 715,617 units of G3 encoded data have been delivered to Simguru Pranav Antal worth an estimated 107,938,658,961 credits (valued at 150,833 CR per unit). So that He, and his Citizens, can continue to live in their virtual reality world. Since this CG will end in 16 hours with no hope of reaching Tier 1, and no hope of any payout for the contributors who worked hard and provided up to 10,000 units of G3 encoded data.

Perhaps Simguru Pranav Antal conscience will see the injustice and arrange for some compensation to these contributors for work he deemed too hazardous (exposure to the reality of hard work) for his followers to do.

There was a Federation CG of Tier 1 materials to support a internal surviellence system (

Are we still getting the Paint Job despite nothing to Complete in the missions -> Community Goal?
There wasn't mentioned in Elite Dangerous CG site that we had to get to at least Tier 1. I'm sure players would have made that extra effort.
I think it's unfair on all those who contributed and reached Top 50%.

the cg description didn't mention a target eg tier 1, right? oh well
The default for a CG succeeding is always Tier 1.
Well bummer, I thought it made T1. Nothing to collect?
In game there was a progress bar showing which tier was reached there was also a table showing your progress and which percentage band you had achieved along with the reward that you would earn.
The reward bit stays at zero until the CG meets its target, then it shows how many credits you will get.

This CG showed almost no progress towards the first tier, we were probably only a tenth of the way there, and zero for the rewards.

The commodities CG scrapped over the line with little time to spare.

I'm not particularly happy with the outcome of this as it was good to have something different to do. Duly got to 25% and now nothing for it. It might have been a better to have lowered the tier 1 point to start with. Not because I just want to get the paint job (which indeed I'd like). But because there was so much going on in the game prior to the CG, with Thargoids, new ships and the rebalance of the engineering. Some players just don't have the time to play for hours on end a day (like me heh, hem), how about a redress of this to award something to the 700+ of us who put the effort in.

As one of the 612 in the 50% or above categories I have to say I would be disappointed to be given a reward for failing especially as not only did we not get close but the Inara graphs show we pretty much gave up after three days.
