Elite Dangerous | Just About Announcement

  • (c) our behaviour analytics providers – Segment, Fathom and Google Analytics;
At first glance what youve got is a deal with Information brokers. Segment is a surveillance AI, Fathom seem a little less dubious - but they are anti google analytics?!?!. The former and latter are part of the Surveillance futures economy.

As a musician writing original music i would be concerned about scraping copyrighted material for AI. Your analytics partners do this it seems.

The way your terms of use is worded suggests you can at will change your terms - that make me uncomfortable as a creator.

Bear in mind that the ED community is not stupid - we play the biggest OPEN world game involving politics, economies and mindgames. We understand quite well how the surveillance economy works and are passionate about the communities we represent.

Thanks for the questions.

We're actually in the process of phasing out both Segment and Fathom - all they're currently used for is as a (small) part of our rewards system, but no Personally Identifiable Information is sent to either party, and neither service will be used for much longer.

In terms of content, as stated in our terms you retain ownership of all content and can withdraw your consent for us to use it at any time.

We certainly don't think the ED community is stupid, and it's your passion and investment in the game that we feel is a perfect fit for what we're trying to do with Just About.

so you a keeping google analytics right? their terms of service specifically states that public and private information is fair game for training models.

You have a music section who pays you for this? That is not a company such as Frontier seeking to delegate community activity in return for big data and engagement. its fairly obvious that its of value to google in futures and algorithm training. unless.. you walked into a deal with the majors - not good! ask spotify how thats going if that is what transpired.

While im an idealogue (probably an extremist too) i do understand the value of this to our players - particulary those that cannot work for one reason or another. I dont want to make it difficult for you on the contrary in fact as data and delegation for Frontier only means more money for dev tasks.

That said in the current socio-political climate we are witnessing intergovernmental and corporate information war moment by moment. Most gamers are highly suspicious of any attempt to monetise gaming or digital assets. to overide this climate It would have to be beneficial to the game

@frontier - What do you gain from this? how is it going to help ED?

edit: "In terms of content, as stated in our terms you retain ownership of all content and can withdraw your consent for us to use it at any time." - unless you change the terms which you have reserved the right to do. But by that time google already have your data. (chances are they have it anyway cos it came from YT etc)

The answer to that's pretty easy. This encourages more creative content, giving an incentive to more people to showcase the parts of the game they love. This in turn helps them show other people cool parts of the game they might have missed out on, as well as giving more content for new players that might encourage them to try the game. It's basically a win win, players get rewarded and areas of the game get some additional views.

Hi, and welcome to the Forum! :)

Hey all! I'll be taking the lead on bounty-setting for Elite. Do reach out if you've got any bounty questions (or fun Elite bounty ideas for that matter). I'm looking forward to building Just About Elite alongside you! o7

Hey everyone - let us know if you have any questions and looking forward to your bounty submissions!

Thanks for the questions.

Just a question here too...Do any of you good people above actually play Elite Dangerous / Odyssey at all? ... just curious.:)

Jack :)

sorry have to do it  - you also get to gage the popularity of the pro-xeno movement for example. eh eh - see what i did there!

Is that something in addition to, or in place of Elite Partner Programme? I ask because the 24H2 intake announcement is now overdue 🤔

Thanks for the warm welcome :)

I'm a long-time admirer but a very new player. That's where all of your expertise is going to come in when it comes to choosing the most interesting bounties for the community. Next week, for example, we'll be running our first Elite 'suggest-a-bounty bounty' to put the real experts in the community's driving seat.

Just to be clear, we also don't collect any PII via Google Analytics either.

Fdev have liquid cash for this dodgey marketing/expliotative campaign, but are reluctant to invest into more developement? not going to lie i feel my intelligence being insulted :ROFLMAO:

Looks like Elite sales need a boost and the partner program isn't getting "out there"to bring in new players? So now trying something completely different ? If required a console version would boost sales ?? Possibly if the players haven't gotten over the drop 🤦‍♂️

And yet they've invested heavily in development most of this year.

They've already made it clear that's too much of an investment.

bad ody launch in 2021, absolutelty nothing for 2.5 years - "theyve invested in the game in the last 8 months" :ROFLMAO: give me a break pal

Edit: by invested you mean added "preorder ships" "doubled arx prices" "buying prebuilt ships" nothing about this has anything to do with game developement its about turning ED in to a even bigger cash cow. i was happy buying skins but now with these recent changes have happened, ill put my money elsewhere

Just so I understand correctly...
"Bounties" are suggested by players and approved by Frontier and JustAbout? Then, individual players engage with the content on JustAbout to vote for it...and prizes are awarded by engagement after a set period, as detail on JustAbout's site:
  • After a bounty closes, winning submissions are judged by the reactions and comments they’ve inspired and by how well they fit the brief. If yours is among them, we pay the promised reward into your platform wallet - and sometimes we’ll use it to make a piece of curated content.
One of the supreme advantages of the Partner Program is the natural curation of accurate content in a very complex game--this curation occurs through the natural growth required to join the Partner Program, as well as the details provided to partners. I worry the incentivization to create content through pay structure (coupled with the opportunity to grow on a new platform for Elite Dangerous) will invite content in quantity over quality. Will the (FDev, JustAbout) team be taking any steps to ensure accuracy in winning or promoted content, particularly with bounties such as

Patch notes: talk us through Elite Dangerous Update 18!

As the Thargoid War reaches its climax, we want you to break down the biggest changes of Elite Dangerous Update 18 - from its initial deployment on February 26 through to its most recent patch (Update 18.08 on August 6). That could include narrative advancements, notable bug fixes, new features, and more. Don't just copy/paste from the patch notes; add context from a player's perspective. Tell us how the update has changed the game.

Other than ensuring accuracy of promoted/rewarded content, I'm excited to see what the community comes up with and how this may help promote the game we all love! It'll be an interesting experiment to watch for sure.
