I think I've said a couple of times that I'm not against it. I'm just asking about it from a pragmatic point of view, given our ignorance of the final game and people's rationale behind the request.
Except you do not have pragmatic point of view. You just think that people who dislike or hate PvP would suddenly stop hating it on publish! Bull****. They hate it now, they hate it then. They might dabble in it, but it is not what they want from their game. That is as rational, if not more, than PvP people wanting to shoot everyone. More rational, because it actually does not involve any griefing and other negative aspects of PvP.
Pragmatic view says that people are not all going to love PvP no matter how much you hope so.
Being stupid and offering "you can stick to these few core worlds" is equally huge fail. That means denying huge amount of content for huge portion of population.
Right now spaceflight MMO is monopolized by Eve. It offers exactly that kind of gamestyle. Core worlds with occasional ganking and then losec or nosec space where you get ganked if met, unless you are part of local alliance.
That game has apparently about 500 000 subscribers. Pitiful amount for game which has total dominion over spaceflight mmo.
Two other MMO games are coming out, ED and SC. Over at SC forums same argument is being seen. All three have same idea of hisec, losec and nosec on the table.
Guess what. That 500 000 or so is ALL you have from global population of 6 billion plus who want that kind of crap game like Eve.
By pushing in two other copies of EO, you splinter that population, with slight influx of people who do not want to pay montly. (which compensates for double, triple etc accounts in Eve)
500 000 and right now (with SC "solution" being poor one IMO, but perhaps best of what these games have to offer for PvE folk) there are going to be 3 games competing for that money.
That playerbase is not going to be enough to maintain all three games. So reality is that game which wins the money is one that manages to tap into massive wallet called "PvE".
Right now, SC is ahead because they are actually implementing something more intelligent than "go private durrr".
ED would have massive chance to outdo them with simple implementation of PvE group alongside PvP and Ironman.
Eve is on it's way to dumpster right now. With more competition in their niche, they are going to be in deep trouble. So smart money is avoiding what Eve does like plague.
And smart money bets that one who stands after it is done is one who offers PvE crew what they want, because that is pragmatic and practical.
