She's a beauty! (New ship revealed--Mandalay)

I have to hand it to the team/teams, a stellar collection of ships so far! and better yet, with the in game tweeks I have been happy to get back into Elite again and I'm really looking forward to PP2 so I can really delve back into the game. Shockingly (for me) I have purchased 2 of the new ships and will certainly purchase this one (even though I said I wouldn't as I can't walk around the inside of ships :p )

Hi :)

One thing i noticed they mentioned 2 or 3 times the atmospheric flight capabilities of the ship.
Does that mean they may have on the table full atmo planets?
Yeah I picked up on that too :sneaky: . Maybe it was just something to 'say' on the stream whilst describing the ship but, well....you never know, I'm not saying that 'atmospheres' might be connected to the as yet upcoming unknown feature....but it did cross my mind briefly for one moment. 🤷‍♂️

Jack :)

Didn't think it would take long for the "True Explorers" (drinks) to come and slag it off...

Fortunately, I am only a sightseer, so will buy one on the day it releases and take a little jaunt to Colonia, or somewhere...
The most annoying thing I might find is that I will have to get one in place of my trusty Phantom… but I guess nothing’s stopping me from using one or the other depending on how I feel. Plus a lesser-range Courier (~40ly range I think) which I… only toyed with once for a trip out to the Elysian Shore.

And if we can fit a Cutter or Beluga into stations, I’m sure this one will. I’d say it reminds me of a ray or avian creature, perhaps a mix of both. Not necessarily in a bad way.

I once saw somebody say the tenuous atmos kind of affect a ship’s flight performance but I honestly never noticed anything such. Might be too small for me to have.

I’d be surprised if it turns into anything other than the regular high-metal contents with pressures above .1 that we could go down to if denser atmospheric planets become a thing. At least, at a first step.

I dont really expect it as the upcoming new feature, but more like it's in the cards for the next 1-2 years if their new funding model goes well enough and they decide to have another go at planet tech

That and their apparent interest in modelling gangways that can actually be walked up leads me to believe we're getting ship interiors and atmospheric planets by 2024 end. Noice.

Just kidding, but guarantee the rampant speculation will go there anyway :D

Does it have tripod landing gear, a prehensile probe and fire sparks from above - 'cos it looks like it escaped from War of the Worlds to me. ;-)

Curious at the hinted better SCO performance than the MkII or T8. I don't have the MkII, but the T8's SCO behaviour is nigh perfect. Maybe I misunderstood the comment.

Anyway, I'll grab one on launch and take it for a spin I think...

The Type-8 still sways a bit in SCO mode. Maybe the new ship won't sway at all?

I really like the Mamba cockpit. Visibility downwards is not as good as with Lakon ships or the kraits, but the overall visibility is stunning.

I took my Courier to Colonia and back right before the battle in HIP 22460, doing exobiology on the way. The lack of downward visibility was not a problem for me--I just ended up flying with nose-down attitude like this:
