She's a beauty! (New ship revealed--Mandalay)

I mean, you can figure out what it's range will probably be pretty easily. Going to experimental mode on edsy lets you see what sort of jump range you can get with fsds that normally can't fit. If this thing really will have exceptional jump range, we are either looking at a very low mass on a C5 FSD, or a very high mass on a C6 FSD.

I must admit, they surprised me with this one. I was almost certain it was going to be a large Imperial ship. That said, is zorgon Peterson was my second choice.

and? my point was, after 90ly on conda, 100ly on mandy should be the next logical step 🙄
A bunch of a big-jump Conda's range comes from stripping out Power Plant, Distributor, Thrusters and replacing them with barely adequate counter-parts.
As this is a Medium ship, there will be less room for such extreme builds.

That said, it of course all depends on those base stats, but they said competitive, not necessarily better. I expect it will be better with a full A-rated loadout, but the Conda will still be King for min/maxxers.

It sounds to me like the real selling point will be its sco performance, which is said to be even better than the existing sco optimized ones.

That said, being purely pragmatic, they want as many people to buy it as possible so I am almost completely certain it will jump better than the anaconda.

One thing i noticed they mentioned 2 or 3 times the atmospheric flight capabilities of the ship.
Does that mean they may have on the table full atmo planets?

Anyway, it looks dope, kinda like a bird of pray, especially when landed.
Not very convinced about its cockpit view, but well... we shall see

The wings look like they can get in the way in the mountains... Maybe they should be folding up like on carrier-based airplanes?
Did think about that but then you'd run into the T7 issue...

I too indeed noticed the wings with implied flaps on them. Like they are setting up ships to be able to land on planets with atmospheres. I doubt they are ready for life yet. They can't even do caves or different types of rocks. The planetary tech is minimal compared to the other games out there. But dead atmospheres maybe.

I really wish they'd add geology to the game and an SRV that allowed you to perform it.

Looking forward to more information about this ship. I already have two ZP explorers: a Hauler, which I find a fantastic exobiology ship, and a Mamba. Why the Mamba? Just because, I was inspired by a thread on this forum and tried it. It's a beautiful ship, however in terms of exploration it is basically a glorified Hauler, with the complication that it offers a miserable landing experience, comparable to that of the Phantom and other ships of that size.

I don't think the cockpit of the Mamba is the best for exploration (or rather, for exobiology), since it's only looking up. Nothing beats Lakon (or even the Kraits) for field of view.
On the other hand, I find the cockpit of the Mamba (and therefore that of the Mandalay, I guess) to be one of the best, if not the best looking one.

The one thing that gives me hope, however, is that it appears to have a very small landing footprint, as the ship's volume appears to be distributed vertically (they pointed out in the stream how tall it is - but still not as tall a the T7 🤭).

I hope it has internals comparable to an AspX (and not to a Mamba). Jump range would be the icing, but it's not what I look for as the primary feature.

Aside from the obvious stats, the things I'm most curious about is the handling on High-G worlds. It's implied from the swivel-nozzles that it's going to have a lot of vertical thrust when the landing gear is down, but will be interesting to see if it makes a practical difference or not.
It's that sort of thing where I could see them making it a strict upgrade over the Conda, on top of the obvious SCO upgrade.

The Annie will still have an advantage of being a large ship, ie being able to take everything including the kitchen sink.

I'm not so sure it was really needed (the new ship) at all. Other than adding an other 10-20 max ly to the jump range, looking nice and handling nice I don't think I'd use it.

Unless they are making it for a reason.
