I really hope i could be as optimistic as you are - but as things are now, i'm not holding my breath. I'm sorry to hear you lost that much, and i hope it not will be in vain.

Seems to be a thing that laypeople have got caught up with the SimCity situation (all the game on the disc yet still required a connection for DRM) rather than considering that some online services just require a connection to a hivemind to actually function.
Again I am very sad that FD chose to go down this route... now their stock has taken a hit as well. Hopefully they are going to learn something from this!

Adept, i believe you are correct much better results could have been reached by a calm and polite discussions. If they stepped forward and made an announcement staying "X" and offered refunds I am not sure if I would have taken them on their offer. I for sure would have bought ED V, VI, etc down the road... now odds are small!

You see, either people want their money or not. If they want their money back, then they don't want to support Brabens 'new' (as in how he NOW conveys it) vision of the game. If they don't, then they support his game.
It can't be clearer than that.
Of course, he stands with a moral dilemma (and maybe a business dilemma as well towards shareholders) if it turns out the money asked for in refunds would have put them BELOW the required kickstarter amount for the project to go off in the first place.
I have setup a petition to FD to re instate the offline mode or at least shortly after release, it IS possible to have the mode hence we have been using it in BETA, obviosly some features wont work such as comms BUT all previous Eltes were offline and great so why cant this version be. An offline version will be different but still great.

As to why: Same could be said for you ... Why do you feel the need to continue to bash them ?
The internet is hammering FD right now and perhaps deserved. They have said they are willing to open a dialogue which is the result people want - time now to give them a chance .. Part of my mistake when I exploded on the forums was listening to people constantly going on and on about the issue and it wound me up - rather than take action, I reacted to the situation.
Now I am a lot calmer and prefer to ACT than react.
Constantly bashing them (FD) right now serves no purpose other than to make yourself feel/look good.
Give them some time.
If it turns out to be empty words I will join you in the crusade ...

Skype uses DRM too. Just because it's free doesn't mean it doesn't use DRM.

Can the company ban you from playing the game, at all via the server connection? IF yes - DRM
It doesn't matter if the account is free, if they are having you login so that they know who you are, that's a form of DRM. It's fairly benign but it's still drm.
Have any of the other testers been in solo mode and pulled the connection? Last reports were 5-10 seconds before disconnect. The exact same timeframe as Ubisoft's "it's a single player game that requires online connection" debacle from a few years ago - Predating Sim City by quite a bit.
I honestly do sympathise, but I followed the KS with a keen eye from the start, and all the development. It's clear Frontier thought they could provide an acceptable single player build, but the key is it was never in the KS rewards or goals. The "physical DRM free disc" seems to have been misunderstood by many, but it also didn't mean a "DRM-free version of the game"
It's very unfortunate, but it's not deliberate. I get that people got upset and disapointed, and that Frontier hadn't realised how strongly some people felt about the off-line version. The reason I kept reading and posting in these threads is that Frontier and David and Michael were attacked as liers, where the actual case was one of misunderstanding and a mis-estimate of the cost and scope of the bonus feature they attempted to squeeze in.
