No Single Player Offline Mode then? [Part 2]

I requested a refund.
It's not so much that i even care to play in an offline mode.
It's the fact i was lied to and duped. When someone pulls a bait and switch tactic they deserve what's coming to them. It wasn't even in a sense where the feature that was promised would be worked on later, they just simply slipped it into a newsletter.
Plain and simply, FD does not deserve a dime for changing the product a month before release.
You might be happy with the crap excuses and lies but i won't be.

You were not lied to. You misunderstood how KS works, and possibly what a physical DRM on a disc means.

Actually that is against the rules and could get me banned. Since I want to play the game I am not willing to take that chance.
There's an interesting psychological mechanism there, when you feel forced or coerced into a situation that you are, at every turn, prevented from getting out of. You start ...bargaining with the circumstances to be released and as you are being disappointed with every attempt, frustration rises until you become irate, feeling vulnerable, and eventually, simply scream incoherently.

Fascinating.

I mean not you. People. In general. That's what happens. Mostly to men, according to research, I think. Possibly. Could also have made all of that up just now.

Yes they made a promise, didnt expect the reaction they got, around the internet they're paying for it, and in time things will be OK again. From the sounds of your posts however I dont think even that will be enough for you.

Hard to say right now... i don't like people getting screwed and that is exactly what they tried doing. If it wasn't for such uproar people would have been screwed provisionally no question about it. For the record some people have a hard time getting their head wrapped around this... my reaction would have been equally vocal if they removed online mode!!!

FD has 0 credibility with me... for that credibility to go up I need to see actions and not just words.

no loyalty already?

I have to say the customer service handled this issue in a very poor manner. Your game was only developed because people believe in one aspect of your vision or another. I think that is one of the strengths that this game could potentially offer. With so many possibilities, you have attracted the attention of many different types of players. However, you then remove a major aspect that some of these players were looking forward to and then force them to lose their money if they beta tested your game as you developed it. They had no intention to request a refund and did not do so until this news was released.

If your company cannot refund everyone's preorder, regardless of whether or not they play tested, then it seems to me that those who want the offline mode are a considerable majority. If that's the case, maybe you should listen to your backers since they made this game a reality.

I have put in a request to withdraw from asking for a refund.

I am withdrawing from asking for a refund only due to DB promising to open up the server code one day when they shut the servers down.

I just hope my streched trust is a good thing in this.

As I just said at unnecessary length in another *edit - this, mods merged it* thread I also will not be asking for my money back. At the end of the day I don't want my money back I want an offline Elite Dangerous and I will keep on campaigning to get it. However going forward I am going to do my best to remain positive and to engage with the issue from a point of view of hope rather than anger or bitterness. I believe an offline version is still possible, I believe it could be magnificent and I believe it will only enhance the online offering by its existence.

Dear Frontier Developments,

Please give Papa Smurf his money back. If you do so, I pledge to purchase enough items from the online store to make up for the loss.
I am 100% serious and not intending in any way make light of Papa Smurfs position.
I just believe this needs to end and we need to move on and I am willing to part with some money to make it happen.

Sincerely,

ecg

This made me laugh!

On a more serious note... FD stock market shares dropped 6.5 point drop on 33.51 million shares.
Between this and the supposed refunds it probably would have been cheaper to have put out the game they promised.

In all fairness, and this has been gone over a thousand times, DB himself repeatedly stated that there would be an offline mode even about a year ago (Reddit) and perhaps even later. A fact that FD doesn't deny, saying that at that time, they still thought they could do it. I believe that, but some people don't.

It's a bit hard to make out exactly, but you seem to be talking about polls on the question of how many people would want a refund, not how many are disappointed with the lack of an offline mode. Those are two very different things.

It also seems that you are talking about taking statistics from the people who are already HERE, already engaged enough to search out those polls you are talking about, which isn't exactly statistically reliable due to selection bias. Not sure what numbers you think I am being delusional about - I was asking, I wasn't claiming. I can't even make out who you think was in minority, or exactly what the question was.

Yeah well, do what everyone else does and make a poll to your exact requirements and see what happens.

Those who deserve a refund I wish you well.
The rest can live with it.

I'm out of here for the night and looking forward to 3.9 and Saturday. Enjoy.

Source of your figures for this fictional majority please, because 90% of game players never visit forums, and of those that do I don't see any majority, just your opinion.

I am sure it is especially now that their stock shares are dropping...! Good luck and slay some pirates for me!

Again... I ask that you provide evidence that they set out to deceive you, because this is what you are now directly accusing them of.

And frankly, if I were FDEV, I wouldn't care if I had any credibility with you given that you were accusing me of being intentionally deceptive with you with absolutely no evidence whatsoever.

quite agree - so are you going to give them some time to DO something, or are you going to continue to fan the flames ?

I believe an "archived server" to combat the risk of company collapse is good enough as an offline mode. Just implement that sooner, long before the company ever risks losing control over the game. It'll be fine.

Once again... if the number is so low and they understand that they majorly did the pooch.
Why didn't they post an update informing all that they will refund all the money and wish them the best?!??!
Instead what did they do again?
