Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Pretty sure CIG are aiming for an anouncement of a SQ42 release window at this CitCon. They need to do their utmost to convince the Calders to delay their option exercise until 2028. Making them believe a load of fresh cash is relatively imminent should go a long way for that.

Now, whether SQ42 is actually ready for a release in 2025 or not is completely irrelevant. Once the Calders confirm they wont exercise the option in 2025 then Chris and family would have 3 more years to extract money from the players and come up with a strategy to exit or mitigate/counter the Calders final option.

Calders: Chris surely won't take the ball away again!

They'd also have to convince the Calders that practically everyone who might be interested in Squadron 4IQ hasn't already bought it...

as an aside........... going back probably 15 years now, there were a few games on the xbox 360 (rainbow 6 springs to mind) which allowed you to create a 3D image of your head using a camera and import it into the game. it worked surprisingly well.
i have no idea why it never really took off, i imagine with modern processing and better cameras, a modern version of that could do a really good job.

At the very least it could have been a stretch goal for star citizen ;)
I used to help make 3D scanners back in the late 90’s and we had a go at making a Photobooth kiosk which would get your head onto characters in Quake and the round of first person shooters at the time - we launched at Babbages across the USA but it completely flopped ! We found that the public generally didn’t want to see their own ugly mugs on the characters! Rather some hero form. So we added ability to add scars and stuff which helped a little… but no success really.

Sometimes cool sounding ideas only sound cool but in reality are not cool.

And that's you get Star Citizen gameplay.

i guess i can see why it may fail as a commercial thing however as an option using our own gear for free i can have fun with it.

also (possibly a little twisted and may get me on a watch list somewhere ;) ) i got a strange enjoyment of shooting my friend in the face :D

Absolutely not. If you can afford it, and it is not hurting someone else, spend your money on what makes you happy.

I have season tickets to the local american football team, which is in itself a giant waste of money and this is how much i spent on beer or one game.

Giant waste of money, but i had a blast.
And that's the point of having money! Using it to do what you enjoy, and enjoying doing 'it'.

I 'broke the game' by paying for early access to (and free rebuys for) a T8 here in EDO.

And do you know who I hurt in the process?

There will be no turkey for Tiny Timmy this Christmas! You monster!

Seriously though, the argument has never been people don't have a right to spend their money how they want. Its always been about calling people dumb for giving Chris money.
Oh don't get me wrong... not a single shiny penny will CiG see of mine until and unless the game is fully released, relatively bug free and fun to play. And this is what ED has been, for me, since the beta, hence my buying the LEP 'early doors', multiple paint-jobs and latterly the T8... and Tiny Timothy eating cold gruel yet again this Christmas..... .....mwah-hah hahha hah-haaaaah.....!

I'd say that might still be a good idea but just too ahead of its time in the late 90s.

Yup, I'm not one of them...but I do spend an inordinate amount of time crafting my avatars in every game that allows it... here's mine from Starfield...

And star citizen...basically a best effort self portrait of me 20 odd years ago with my old military crew-cut. I wasn't allowed the beard back then...but hey, artistic license :)

I'm the opposite, I tend to hit randomise till it spits out something I can live with

usually i spend a little time creating the most ugly character i possibly can, my fallout 76 character is especially ugly, so i quite like him!...... but if i could use my mug i probably would do that.

my mate has a spectrum next. he is toying with getting the new rubber key one as well but isn't sure.
me personally... call me a heathen but whilst I like playing the games and I do like the hardware. emulation is enough for me. I don't have the space.
I gave away my super upgraded A1200 years ago
I looked at the Next and it does look great, design and specs-wise, but might be a bit overkill for me. The Mega65 also looks amazing but it's double the price of a Next, which isn't cheap either! Though going OT... but would there be interest in a general retro gaming thread here?
