DLC18 discussion and predictions

I don't know really, maybe a domestic in the next dlc? Not surprising at all though considering plenty of people were still asking for a dairy cow after barnyard was announced.
I don't think this influences the next DLC at all lol.

One of the developers there worked on Zoo Tycoon (xbox) and asked Frontier if they could use the models/textures from that and PZ; but that doesn't mean that all the animals that are in the new flight simulator game are from Planet Zoo. It's just that they took a (logical) shortcut by using the ones they had available instead of doing them all themselves.

Cool occasion to come out my old template about this idea, if you want to play around : View attachment 402142
I would be ready to pay A LOT for such a DLC. I mean it's nearly perfect to me. I would only change your choice for the twilight pack (is it an agouti?) and I would go for something like the Aye-aye or the Virginia Opossum (yeah yeah...). I'm not a fan of having a 4th Rhinoceros either so I would replace it by en endangered monkey (either one from SA or the Golden Snub Nosed Monkey). The rest is on point!

That's... odd. How is it lower than the impala?
I'm guessing Dama Gazelle might be part of why Impala is lower today (Impala is one of the better publicly known antelopes, even if just by name).

As to why the tortoise is higher today, I'm guessing it might have shown up in DLC predictions of Arid, maybe even Conservation, and got exposure there, or an increased desire for Desert habitats/areas led to that. After Eurasia, the moderate disappointment of Hermann's tortoise being an Exhibit has also given a slight push for a habitat tortoise.

The number of contributors also seems to be smaller these days.

I shared it here on the day it was teased and no one paid attention lol. If it's true then the plans of the desired Latin America and dictionary animals may not be the whole truth.
A real chad move on my part then, saying the same thing, but louder.

Dairy, cattle and cow are indeed in the dictionary, so it could be another candidate. Going for a collection of breeds seems a little unusual, though they are effectively just colour variants. (I'm now also pretty confident the one pictured is a Red & White Holstein.)

I'm gonna be honest, I don't really care about getting birds. First, I just like mammals more, but second we need so many species to make a realistic zoo. I really hope in a sequel that has flighted birds there are at least 20 birds in the base game. Like sure it would be nice to get a duck, but when have you seen a zoo keep a single species of duck? Idk, it's hard for me to want birds at this point, especially ones that can't exist in standalone exhibits.
I get that I do, but I think it depends on more what we get. I understand zoos normally have more than one duck, but I have also never been to a zoo with no ducks. I mean, the saiga antelope and proboscis monkey made it into game. If we can start getting the more obscure mammal species, we might as well get some of the basic birds. Yes maybe one duck species may not seem like much, but say we get something like a tropical duck species? Now if you build a tropical house you will always have a good bird to pair with it. To me the lack of birds actually has the opposite effect on me, each bird I find inherently more useful and fun to build for. Usually because it’s one of only a few options.

I get maybe getting one duck might seem odd, but to me it’s about as odd as any of the other more obscure mammals that already made it into game. That’s why I really like the white faced whistling duck. If it’s our only duck species, it can be used in African or South American habitats. So that makes it more useful than some other species.

It also comes down to what I like to do in a building game. I like mixed species habitats, which birds are fantastic for. Something like the grey crowned crane, great white pelican, helmeted guineafowl, and others provide me options. What if I’m sick of the ostrich? I got the guineafowl and crane. What if I’m sick of making a bison and pronghorn habitat? I make one with the pronghorn and turkeys. What if I really want another Asian crane species? The demoiselle crane would be awesome.

I get what Frontier has done is set in stone, so nothing can be done about it. But I don’t find that a good excuse to continue to ignore some of the most common types of animals in real life zoos. Even if people want “flying birds”, we all know that’s not coming. So might as well throw in habitat birds, that we know will work in game, in the meantime. I’ll put it this way, I don’t want to wait years for a sequel to get a duck. I’ve been playing PZ for 5 years now, I might as well get a duck now. Which really shouldn’t be some monumental ask. And if we do get a sequel, how many years more do I have to wait for some of the basic birds again? Yeah maybe the sequel comes with some flying birds, but maybe I still have to wait another two years for a duck.

Something we have often requested are different sizes for the exhibit boxes. While I think the smaller sizes will have to wait for Planet Zoo 2, I think the next update could bring us a larger exhibit box (8x4 instead of 4x4). It would be the perfect time to add the king cobra, which is constantly requested, and this large double terrarium could also be used by the yellow anaconda and the boa, as well as by the iguanas (but they can also use the normal one so that it doesn't destroy old zoos). This shouldn't require a lot of work since it wouldn't affect many exhibit animals, but would be a nice feature to have. Would you like something like this?

Mostly selfish idea as well:
  • Short-beaked Echidna (Deluxe)
  • Musk Ox (Arctic)
  • Patagonian Mara (South America)
  • Perentie (Australia)
  • Harbor Seal (Aquatic)
  • Greater Malayan Chevrotain (Southeast Asia)
  • Grey-crowned Crane (Africa)
  • Wapiti (North America)
  • European Hedgehog (Europe)
  • Sandhill Crane (Wetlands)
  • Sumatran Tiger (Conservation)
  • Greater Galago (Twilight)
  • Nilgai (Grasslands)
  • Black Howler Monkey (Tropical)
  • Arabian Oryx (Arid)
  • Common Brushtail Possum (Oceania)
  • Pallas' Cat (Eurasia)
  • Ankole Watusi (Barnyard)

On the page of a waterfowl, I think African Pygmy Goose would be an amazing choice, so many zoos have them.
I think a Goose would be awesome! A Duck too. Hopefully also something that doesn't fit neatly into any waterfowl categories as well such as the Magpie Goose. I'd hope for at least 4 species of waterfowl! I'd hope for another Crane, wild Turkey even the American Flamingo. An "aviary" pack would be nice IMO. I'm mammal lover but I could give up new mammal species for better bird representation. Especially if we could get an anniversary mammal(s) later.
Edit to add: Aviary would be good theme. Primate would be an objectively good theme but I am bracing for it. It is my most least wanted theme (aside from reptilian animal pack). Haha, what if its Primate Animal Pack coming up :(

im allways a fan of more customiseability even if being to small really isnt my issue with the exhibit boxes. I just wish that we could atleast adjust the height, nothings worse then wanting to add a small terrarium only for it to stick out of the ceiling cause your building doesnt have 4 meter high walls

Imo theres nothing weird about having one duck, atleast not weirder then only one new world monkey
Really dont get why their would be any pushback against a duck, it might not be the most incredibly interesting choice for some people but for an animal that you can chuck into literally any pond, aviary or mixed species habitat why wouldnt we want atleast one?

I think id be speaking for most people that 3 ducks would be perfect, the common mallard to mostly act as a wild stand in to populate ponds (best case with a white feather and yellow beaked variant aswell to reflect the common house dog which is on a species lvl the same as the mallard), the white faced whistling duck to cover every area where the mallard isnt, while also being great for tropical houses and aviarys, covering south america, africa and madagascar, which also hell yeah a non lemure or fossa madagascan animal, lets go, and lastly the mandarin cause everyone and their mother agrees that they are pretty much the most beautiful duck species.
Combine that with all 3 being absolutly common in zoos (mallard has 361 intentioned holdings all around the world, 614 for the mandarin also kept on literally every continent and 253 for the whitefaced, kept everywhere besides oceania) making them some of the most common animals in real zoos still not in the game.

Ngl in my dream world wed get another year of planet zoo and frontier would give ducks or atleast waterfowl the 2023 pig treatment, that would be nice

Okay high hopium moment, if planet zoo would get 4 more dlc, each of them bringing a new primate and bird, with the animal packs also bringing a reptile, what themes and animals would you choose?
My choices would be:

1. Latin America Animal Pack:
Bird: Roseate Spoonbill (+ rhea but that one is near guranteed with that pack theme and important yet boring)
Monkey: Spider Monkey
Reptile: Tegu

2. Garden Scenery Pack (those who know, know):
Bird: Duck (any)
Monkey: Tamarin, cotton top prefered

3. Islands Animal Pack:
Bird: Nene
Monkey: Sifaka
Reptile: Rhinoceros Iguana + freed free update iguanas

4. Zoo Keeper Collection:
Bird: Great White Pelican
Monkey: Hamadryas Baboon

Ngl this would still leave a lot to wish for but id be decently pleased with this lineup
