DLC18 discussion and predictions

Our leaked pack is looking like:
Hamadryas Baboon
Tree kangaroo
Secretary
Dik dik
Sifaka
African spurred
Short beaked echidna
Markhor

Though its only 8 habitat animals, I think we got more animals to this pack so maybe SA and Pallas cat has a chance
I hope this isn't the pack we end up getting. We don't need a fourth lemur, even if it would have unique animations, and a third tortoise would be (in my opinion) a wasted slot. The lack of a single New World primate sticks out like a sore thumb, though I should probably be used to that at this point. Now, if this was a larger animal pack with 12 or so slots, and at least one of those slots was a New World primate, then I'd be far more satisfied.

I'm defeated at this point. I do not expect a single SA animal nor i think it will be a larger a pack and for sure this one seen very much like the last pack we will get.

I'm just accepting i won't get my coati, howler, mara, rhea and pelican. Not even blackbuck, musk ox, sea otter or Palla's cat.

Once again, even for the final pack they decided to go with oddballs in a way, because yes, while dik dik, Sifaka and tortoise were often mentioned as good and wanted additions, they were in a way lower demand than other animals that would have probably take the same amount of effort to make but were more popular.

but I keep thinking we have so much content that could be added
I mean there is literally no end to the content that could be added. Even fish and birds wouldn't be breakthrough features; they'd just go in the exhibit boxes. Axolotls and bats but different. There's no shortage of species that could be added for habitat animals, obviously; they could do 10 packs on ungulates alone. But why would they?

I get that not everyone feels this way, but looking at PC2 and the features its bringing to the franchise, I seriously cannot wait for PZ2. I'm even planning on buying PC2 so that when PZ2 does come, I'm already used to the new features and UI (and because it looks fun, but anyway). Plus, looking at certain PC2 things - guest groups breaking up to go down slides and such - it seems possible that a whole lot of other new features for PZ2 are possible, such as interactive playgrounds. Besides all that, it's pretty clear that Frontier has deliberately witheld flying birds and aquaria; that alone is enough reason to be excited for the possibilities of PZ2, especially if the free-drawing system used for paths and pools can be applied to other features.

To that end, I'm looking forward to closing the book on PZ1. Bring on the future.

Honestly it's not even common sense, it's just a vague hope. Asking for "hard confirmation" is a bit silly, though, since we didn't get "hard confirmation" of PC2 until the announcement anyway.

There is some logic to expecting PZ2 in 2026/FY27 at the earliest; for one thing the core newer features have already been built (in PC2 - new pathing system, free-draw tools, foliage brush, object scaling, etc.) which means they don't have to be rebuilt, just ported into the Zoo version, and for another pushing ahead with it would make financial sense since PZ has been one of Frontier's biggest money-makers fairly consistently. That said it's pure speculation.

Personally I'm hoping for a 2026 release but I'm not expecting it.
I think both of you that replied read my post wrong - I was saying it was common sense that the immediate next project wouldn’t be PZ2, and asking if there had been and hard proof that it wouldn’t (ie, suggestions from Frontier that some other specific project might be in the wings, or that more PZ was not currently a priority for whatever reason). But it seems like the answer came through either way.

That's kind of what I was getting at though, the only hard proof we will ever get is the vague business talk from the shareholder meetings. Anything else will be on the year the supposed next game is coming out.

I was thinking, but there's any chance that the actual annoucement of the dlc will only be on next week? Just like frontier did with megalodon on jwe2: say to people there's something on the horizon, tease it on a stream and then reveal it next weak.

If this is the case, it would also be hilarious considering that zoochosis is releasing on the next monday.

That would be very painful. 😭
There's no way we don't know what the pack is by the end of Wednesday

Stop, you will curse us and make this a reality

Honestly, if we didnt get the announcement tomorrow I really think we'll get it Wednesday before/during the stream. I could see Frontier announcing the pack on stream, especially if it is the last pack. Maybe that makes sense since they're dropping the next bundle tomorrow.

Side note: It would be cool if they dropped that last DLC on console and PC at the same time for the whole community to experience it together. Doubt they'll do it though.

Aside from common sense, do we actually have any hard confirmation that this itself isn't going to be PZ2? I'm not trying to suggest that it is, just curious if there's any sense of what this might be beyond what it's not.
We have no confirmation other than it will be a cms game and if it isnt something entirely new we will never guess it has to be pz2.
See, to me that doesn't make a ton of sense. There is obviously a market for a zoo builder and Frontier has cornered it. There also aren't a whole lot of other builder games that would have the same broad appeal, beyond perhaps aquariums or a city builder. Some floated ideas - museums or botanical gardens for example - are fairly niche.

I can't imagine a city builder coming out in the next two years - there is an opportunity for it, since Colossal Order and Paradox fumbled Skylines II so hard, but that was only recent. Doesn't feel like enough time for Frontier to put their finger in that pie and get something out for 2027. An aquarium game would be nice, but even then given how they handled water rides in PC2 it seems more logical to package an aquarium feature into a Zoo sequel.

What else could there be? Mini golf makes more sense as a Coaster expansion. I'd love to see a modern take on SimSafari and SimPark, but I'm not so sure about the broad appeal.
the thing is most ideas that would fit this genre already have the market cornered want an aquarium game there are plenty, city skylines already has city builders in a choke hold and I agree mini golf seems like a planet coaster dlc. anything else would just end up too nice since aside from maybe a museum builder.

So what are we thinking for the update, I will start first
  • All base game habitat animals (as well as a few exhibit animals to) get signs in the modern style
  • Peafowl Color Morphs
  • A new plant or two
  • And the theme maker tool kit
Unless they have concept art lying around, I don't think they're going to make that many additions specifically only for base game (the only remaster has been the Malayan Tapir, I guess you could also count the Binturong), though I could see additions to DLCs being a thing, like maybe an extra statue per pack.

They've been pretty consistent on two plants in the free update, though sometimes just variants of existing. Usually it's relevant to the pack, so I'm guessing it's going to be Old World + Oceania, Grasslands and Tropical.

It's in their best interest not to say anything. If a customer knows for sure there's a PZ2 coming, even if a while away, they're probably not going to buy as much DLC.

JWE3 was alluded to slightly before the final JWE2 DLC, and properly confirmed after a few months, but the movie reveal led to the assumption it was coming anyway.

Side note: It would be cool if they dropped that last DLC on console and PC at the same time for the whole community to experience it together. Doubt they'll do it though.
Barnyard isn't part of the Season Pass, logically the next one wouldn't be either, so releasing during it would be a bit weird. With Barnyard they didn't even specify this year, so April to May next year seems a pretty safe assumption.

I forgot that the season pass existed lol

I dont think they would emphasize the stream this much and tease us this much just to have a tiny 20 second teaser on stream.
