DLC18 discussion and predictions

That’s what I was thinking, December is their most profitable month so why release the pack in October when you could release it in December and be more profitable? Maybe it’s cause PC2 could have a DLC around that time as well or another PZ DLC could lie around that time, connecting both Old World and New World. After all a lot of people expected 16 animals for the final dlc, this would be 14 + 2 exhibit, not the craziest idea…
Ngl if the dictionary thing turns out true the complete lack of any south american animals is rather suspicious, so i dont think getting another one sometime later is entirely unreasonable. Although that would require that the pack the dictionary thing will turn into is not essentially a random grab bag pack but has an actual theme. But i really cant see anything that ties them all together, like the closest that i see is another arid/shrublandy theme as all aside from the tree kangaroo inhabit such biomes, even the sifaka lives in dry forest so that kinda fits.
Or ofcourse the dictionary thing is a random grab bag pack and its A) the last or B) not the next pack

HOT TAKE: as long as they add at least one SA Monkey (Black Howler Monkey, Geoffrey's Spider Monkey, Golden Lion Tamarin), one highly requested bird (secretary bird, pelican, duck), and a South American Coati/Hamadryas Baboon I could care less about the other animals, I mean something like

Black Howler Monkey
Secretary Bird
South American Coati
African Spurred Tortoise
Coquerel's Sifaka
Kirk's Dik-Dik
Markhor
(Exhibit Animal) King Cobra
I wouldn't be that disappointed, what do you guys think about this roster

They don't all have to fit in at once though, especially cause theres 8 names in total so its impossible for them all to be in 1 pack anyway. For example everything except the tree roo and echidna could be part of the Old World Pack coming next week, then tree roo and echidna show up later down the line in December for the new world animal pack.
If it were up to me:

Old World Animal Pack (October)
  • Hamadryas Baboon (Headliner)
  • Secretary Bird
  • Great White Pelican
  • Kirks Dik-Dik
  • Sifaka
  • Markhor
  • African Spurred Tortoise
  • King Cobra (E)
Which would work cause Europe basically has nothing left to give so it would explain why it would be mostly African animals.
Then in the winter:

New World Animal Pack (December)
  • Goodfellows Tree Kangaroo (Headliner)
  • Black Howler Monkey
  • Short Beaked Echinda
  • Ocelot
  • Greater Rhea
  • Walrus
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Emerald Tree Boa (E)

Once again this is extremely far fetched. All in all, tomorrow if its a zookeeper pack, its the end, but if its old world, then I expect New World to come right behind it.

If this is the final dlc and it is a normal 7+1 I don’t think a lot of people are going to be happy with the roster no matter how good it is. Too many of us are split on what they want vs what they would prefer. I really hope we don’t get any oddballs.

I had a thought, maybe old world animal dlc and a new world animal dlc to cover the last bases. Too good to be true that dlc is early October and December but tba.

See y’all tomorrow and can’t wait to join in the chaos.
Very true. They can't please everyone with a last pack. And everyone should get used to the idea and should have long before now; if you've still got a long list of essential animals that you feel must be in the game, be prepared to walk away without getting some of them. The good news, we have mods that can handle most of that!

At this point I would most hope for them to pack as many birds and Latin American animals in the pack as possible and I would consider it the best of cutting my losses on things like the Tree Kangaroo. Of course, with the Wombat being the last absolute necessary mammal I wanted, and the Wolverine being the last animal of the second tier of mammals I wanted, there is not a single mammal that I consider to be essential - other than the concept that it is essential we get at least one more New World Primate. Even my beloved Spectacled Bear, that I very much hope will make it in; if it doesn't, it doesn't, and I'm alright with that.

All in all, tomorrow if its a zookeeper pack, its the end, but if its old world, then I expect New World to come right behind it.
Yes, I could see that. I mean, getting an Old World pack when so much of last year focused on the Old World...would be odd to not get a New World pack after that. Reverse though not so much. While I know there's still Old World animals that would be welcome, that's what last year was for the most part.

The new "leaked" additions sound connected to a Safari (Afrotropical) pack:
  • Hamadryas baboon
  • Coqueral's sifaka
  • Secretary bird
  • African spurred tortoise
  • Kirk's dik-dik
  • IDK what else: The grey crowned crane and honey badger are two decently popular options that could be found in the dictionary. I personally would hope for a serval (not listed) and a chameleon as the exhibit animal.
This would be a weak finale, but a pretty nice animal pack otherwise. It has a believable mix of top ten animals and mid-popular species. I would love the baboon and bird(s). They are strong picks. I also smile every time I think about getting the tortoise even though I don't consider it super essential. I grew up watching Zombumafoo and like the sifaka in a vacuum, but I can't think of what it would bring that I don't already use one of the 3 in-game lemurs for. I know a lot of people want it, though, and two primates in one pack is nothing to sneeze at. The dik-dik is another African ungulate, but at least it's the most unique option.

The markhor and tree kangaroo could be in a mountains-themed pack, as could a spectacled bear. A Hamadryas baboon could also fit here, I suppose. I don't know what the other animal(s) would be. A giant salamander could probably use existing words. I'm not trying to raise my or anyone else's hopes up too much, but it doesn't seem like the end.

Pretty much everyone agrees that South America needs the most animals, but they are conspicuously absent from the dictionary leaks, which point to two packs as I see it. I keep feeling like this can't be the end.

Speaking of them one thing i really hope(d) to see in a final pack is another couple great bases for mods. And while the baboon would be pretty cool for other baboon obviously, but also tailed macaques and mangabeys for example the rest seem like not that great in that regard. Like sifaka you can use for decent galagos but other than those? Looks not that great

i would love both the serval and honey badger, both really interesting animals imo (also saw the cutest baby serval this summer at my local zoo)

most unique option.
questionable, i feel like gerenuk and klipspringer could both be considered as, if not more, unique as the dik dik

The issue is that their absence could also just as easily mean that we're not getting them. We're extrapolating with information that just doesn't exist.

I'm leaning towards this being the last pack because there's no indication that there would be another after this. Even if it was specifically an "Old World Animal Pack". JWE has had four packs themed around the Cretaceous in it's history, and no packs for the other time periods. They could just as easily do the same with PZ. Could literally be a "we picked the animals first and came up with the name later" type of thing.

But once again, we have no idea because we have very little to go off of.

(also please don't take this as an attack on you, I just ended up having a lot more to say than I thought.)

Voici ma prédiction pour le prochain DLC

Babouin Hamadrya
Ours noir d'Amérique
Ibis rouge
Pélican
Chien de Brousse
Ankole Watusi
Éland de Derby
Ara hyacinthe
Arc-en-ciel de Loriquets
Caméléon panthère
Tamarin lion doré

Even if they kept going for years of more DLC, the end result wouldn't satiate everyone. Like they alluded to in a shareholder statement, the well of species is pretty hard to exhaust.

There is a bit of a schism between what we ask for, and what's going to sell to the general public as one of a few DLCs they buy. I'd expect an American Black Bear to sell over a Spectacled Bear for example.

A double DLC finale is what I'd like to see (if both could be a little larger, like 10 species, all the better), but a PZ2 will eventually happen, even if it's not in 2 years. They will undoubtedly save some stuff for it.

They don't all have to fit in at once though, especially cause theres 8 names in total so its impossible for them all to be in 1 pack anyway. Being from Australia, I consider it much closer to Old World, with Africa & Asia being the places it has most in common with, shared reptile groups, migratory birds flying in from Siberia for example, and quite a few birds and even insects ranging into proper Asia. From a purist standpoint it shouldn't really be in either.

Western and Eastern Hemisphere divides the whole world, but not as cleanly for Europe and Africa. Northern and Southern even less so.
