DLC18 discussion and predictions

what are yalls new world packs?
  1. White faced whistling duck
  2. Arrau river turtle
  3. White nosed coati
  4. Rhea
  5. Mara
  6. Howler monkey
  7. Roseate spoonbill
  8. Exhibit animal: red belly pirhana
3 mammals (rodent, monkey, Carnivora), 3 birds (waterfowl, ratite, and a wading bird), one reptile in the turtle, and a fish in the pirhana. Honestly outside of Tropical North America I’m fine if Temperate and Taiga North America stays as it is.

That’s what I was thinking, December is their most profitable month so why release the pack in October when you could release it in December and be more profitable? Maybe it’s cause PC2 could have a DLC around that time as well or another PZ DLC could lie around that time, connecting both Old World and New World. After all a lot of people expected 16 animals for the final dlc, this would be 14 + 2 exhibit, not the craziest idea…
I said almost the exact same thing in Discord today! If it's a Zookeeper Collection pack then folks will probably assume it's the end (especially if it's bigger in any way). But if it's a regular pack with a New World or Old World label? People are going to assume the sibling pack is coming in December. And hopefully if that's the theme they can save us all the wondering and just tell us tomorrow. Hah.

For me, this feels pretty unlikely but I love the idea. It's a logical way to end the game and would tick a lot of boxes (as highlighted by your nicely-put-together rosters; save for the lack of coati they're pretty perfect haha). But logic's biggest enemy is reality. So I'm guessing it's a Zookeeper Collection that we're looking at. Two packs or a "double-sized" single pack feels like it would be too great to ask for... :ROFLMAO:

Oh, and as far as the PlanCo2 DLC are concerned? It's kinda flown under the radar but the PC2 Deluxe Edition comes with something called the "Vintage Funfair Ride Pack" which includes 10 vintage rides so... I'm guessing that might be the first DLC? But I feel like that will be coming in November, maybe even on release day, as a separate pack? I'm not sure how that works because it's definitely not billed as a pre-order bonus. So who knows about December. Haha.

Can't wait to check X tomorrow at 8am, get excited when I see a Planet Zoo tweet and it's just the console bundle trailer!
Being from Australia, I consider it much closer to Old World, with Africa & Asia being the places it has most in common with, shared reptile groups, migratory birds flying in from Siberia for example, and quite a few birds and even insects ranging into proper Asia. From a purist standpoint it shouldn't really be in either.

Western and Eastern Hemisphere divides the whole world, but not as cleanly for Europe and Africa. Northern and Southern even less so.
I did some digging around on this tonight and as far as I can tell, the "it shouldn't really be in either" is where most people land. But that wouldn't stop Frontier from squeezing an Australian species or two in. :ROFLMAO:

New/Old World has nothing to do with environment or biology. It's all to do with colonialism. "Old World" = regions precolonial Europeans were in regular contact with (Africa, Asia, the Middle East), "New World" = the parts of the world Europeans interacted with in the age of empires (the Americas, Oceania). Of course the existence of places like l'Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland muddies the water, but that's generally what New World/Old World means.

This was hard.

My Dream New World Animal Pack:
  • Golden Lion Tamarin: my favorite zoo animal
  • American Black Bear: I really want my bear and have been waiting for it since launch.
  • Geoffroy's Spider Monkey: could be the howler monkey, too. Both are good.
  • Scarlet Ibis: unique bird rig and good for the Caribbean
  • South American Coati: most popular animal
  • Spectacled Bear: finishes the bears, but maybe I could swap it for a Patagonian animal
  • Mallard: useful range, useful interspecies enrichment possibilities, and good for barnyard sections, too
  • Macaws in WE: please
Honorable mentions:
  • Rhea and mara: both of these are really good. The mara is more unique and I think I've seen it in more zoos. However, there are a bunch of positive steam reviews on the NA DLC page about Big Ounce. I think people would like to have Kevin. Ideally, we'd get both.
  • Walrus and musk ox: they are popular
  • Ocelot and tamandua: South America needs a lot of stuff.
  • Howler monkeys and other monkeys are still kind of needed. More tamarins, squirrel monkeys, and even a tufted capuchin would be great to have.
  • More birds: turkeys, white-faced whistling ducks, spoonbills, and roadrunners all seem pretty cool, too.

My Dream New World Animal Pack:
Black Howler Monkey
South American Coati
Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo or Short-Beaked Echidna
Scarlet Ibis
Greater Roadrunner or Burrowing Owl
American Black Bear
Two-Toed Sloth

My Dream Old World Animal Pack:
Hamadryas Baboon
Secretary Bird
Markhor
Reeves Muntjac
African Spurred Tortoise
Mantled Guereza
Pallas Cat
King Cobra

I wouldn’t mind a new world and old world dlc combo what are yalls new world packs?
Aight, I'll bite:
1. Greater Rhea - "Easy animal". Kind of a meme pic because of Kevin, but also finishes the ratites.
2. Patagonian Mara - Oddball pic that's clearly a pretty popular option over here.
3. Spectacled Bear - Prioritised over the black bear for more SA representation. Since the "Old World" seems to be prioritising Africa, it's only fair.
4. South American Coati - Popular, common in zoos.
5. Geoffroy's Spider Monkey - Chosen cus it can use the brachiation mechanic.
6. Walrus - :]
7. Muskox - Where is it.
E. Don't really care. Vampire bat or leafcutter ant would be fun but I don't think they'd bother.

Just been notified that my first shift for my new job, which runs from 3am to 9am (the grind is real), is tomorrow - Frontier Unlocked is at 2:30am that same morning haha.

Currently I plan to get up around 1ish so I’ll see if there’s anything announced prior to the livestream (which I won’t be able to watch live), but if not I’m going to mute all notifications while I’m at work so I don’t get distracted by any news that pops up until I get home lol.

They don't all have to fit in at once though, especially cause theres 8 names in total so its impossible for them all to be in 1 pack anyway. For example everything except the tree roo and echidna could be part of the Old World Pack coming next week, then tree roo and echidna show up later down the line in December for the new world animal pack.
If it were up to me:

Old World Animal Pack (October)
  • Hamadryas Baboon (Headliner)
  • Secretary Bird
  • Great White Pelican
  • Kirks Dik-Dik
  • Sifaka
  • Markhor
  • African Spurred Tortoise
  • King Cobra (E)
Which would work cause Europe basically has nothing left to give so it would explain why it would be mostly African animals.
Then in the winter:

New World Animal Pack (December)
  • Goodfellows Tree Kangaroo (Headliner)
  • Black Howler Monkey
  • Short Beaked Echinda
  • Ocelot
  • Greater Rhea
  • Walrus
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Emerald Tree Boa (E)

Once again this is extremely far fetched. All in all, tomorrow if its a zookeeper pack, its the end, but if its old world, then I expect New World to come right behind it.
I think I will be Soooooo Happy with this ONLY if the anniversary animal is the paragonian mara

This is sort of why I dont like the terms in general they are just colonial terms used to classify the east and west.
Biogeographically they mean nothing aside from american or not american and completely isolate australia from the discussion. People are just trying to shoe horn animals where they dont belong by saying because australia wasnt important to the europeans till after the terms became common use and have never neatly fit into either it should go to which ever fits their agenda better.

The only time i ever saw a wild pelican was in st james park in london of all places, which honestly was super fun as that park is filled to the brim with rabbits, squirrels and waterfowl among other things, all of which had zero fear of humans and just came up to you to see if you have food. Kinda felt like walking through a fairytale really.
Reminds me of the Königsallee in Düsseldorf, its a fancy and way to expensive shopping street with lots of old trees and an ongoing waterfeature, that ends in a very large pond that got all kinds of waterfowl not just thriving but also being friendly.
I once went their with some seeds and salad heads and was swarmed by a few muted and black swan that ate from my hand, dozens goose of 3+ species (gray, canada, nile and one single snow goose), more ducks and pidgeons then i could count and even a few crows, magpies and rose ringed parakeets. Ngl was lowkey magical to just sit there with 80+ birds surrounding me

_offended in mallard, white stork, western cappercallie, great and dalmatian pelican
common pheasent, alpine marmot, red squirrel, european wildcat, chamois, martens, mufflon, mink, european rabbit, hamster, olm, european adder, list goes on_

Yeah i know most people not from europe kind of dont care, but saying euroe has nothing less to give is frankly not true, especally when you even include one in the pack.
Especally in an oldworld grabpack its imo totally reasonable to give one slot to a mainly european animal
