DLC18 discussion and predictions

The opposite, actually! They said the anniversary update would be coming "earlier" than the anniversary itself. They cited the DLC release as the reason but we all know it's so that it won't conflict with the PC2 release week. Haha.
Oh? Need to rewatch. I watched it with too many (german speaking) people, maybe I got it wrong. I thought the aniversary animal will come earlier than the aniversary but the DLC would come on the aniversary. My bad.

I think the lantern and flag thingys in the pack art heavily point towards a barnyard style animal pack, so 7 habitat animals and scenery instead of the exhibit.
Which personally im really happy with, i generally prefer scenery pack so getting a little taste of that after a whole year without any is atleast something. And a mountain pack doesnt really have the most exciting exhibit options out there tbh
I would love it, but if it would be the case, the assets shown in the key art would be new. Here these are just already existing ones

Ok I'm getting tired of hating.
Maybe it will be good.
It's not like they can change the pack last minute just because some guy hates marmots with a passion anyway
You know I was the same with the Arctic fox. I thought it was a waste of a slot and that the red Fox (or gray fox😏) was the logical choice.
But, now I love the Arctic fox, even before we got the red later down the line.
A lotta animals I didn't care for at announcement I ended up loving

Mountains are actually chameleon hot spot.
Most mountains in madagascar feature their very own endemic dwarf chameleon for example.
Not saying we should get one of those but there defenetly are chameleon living on mountains and its not even a small amount
Theres a pretty cool video from the youtuber "Atlas Pro" in his video series about unusual "island" ecosystems that arnt actually islands but behave similary, highly recommend checking him out

What could even be added, though? Genuinely asking
If it is a mountain pack, there are loads of options - Ethiopian mountain adder, Mangshan pit viper, Andean milksnake and Lake Titicaca frog would all be good standard exhibit species for starters. I'd have also said pancake tortoise, but I think with the Hermann's tortoise recently added, it is less important now.

"Valid criticism" comes down to very personal opinion.
For me, complaing about a free gift is just entitlement. Valid critisism it would have been for me, if they put the leopard in a pack we pay for and it takes up yet another spot.
But whatever, we will not come to an agreement on this one.
I don't disagree at all, but the African leopard is such a silly thing to include. Oh well, as you say, it's free.

Anyway, I'm looking for the announcement post. When do we think it will be up? This week? Next? I want to know what other species are in this DLC before I judge it. The baboon alone is great. I like the markhor but I wasn't really clamouring for it, but I don't imagine I'm going to use the Pallas cat very often. It's cute but on the list of cats I want it's pretty far down.

For an alpine theme there's not a whole lot I'm too interested in, but if they give us a Himalayan monal I'll be thrilled. We haven't had a new pheasant...ever. This also means the raccoon dog is a possibility, which, despite being rather niche, is one I've been hoping for (Little Japan here we go - macaques, raccoon dogs, cranes, fallow deer as a "hey we can't source the real thing" stand-in for the sika; all I'm missing is the Japanese serow and an exhibit animal (fire-bellied newt would be amazing)).

I'm also taking this as our final DLC. If we do end up getting another one, then great, but as it stands this is touching on a handful of highly-requested species and makes sense as a theme to bring them all in. It works as a send-off, even if a few of you are still clamouring for more animals from X-land and Y-ia. In any case I'll be pretty busy with Coaster 2 come November and the new CK3 DLC that's just dropped so I won't be hanging on waiting for more Zoo content.

I'm always up for more snakes, but we really could use some smaller lizards

Maybe the Alpine newt? It's similar to the Danube crested newst, but there are some differences:

Yeah but neither of those two screamed "final pack" at the time though. Nobody really expected that those were the final packs back then, not in a way that a "Parkkeepers collection pack" does.

We're looking at those two DLCs with the glasses of today, but objectively speaking, nothing about those two packs really indicated that they were going to be the last at that time.
keep in mind at that time we didnt even know they would end both were the first of their line to end in hindsight them being the last pack is obvious but at the time we didnt even know to look for the end

Tell that to the people who complaint about any free update feature ever.
Why can half the community cry about dinorama mode but criticism towards a free animal is unreasonable when its also just part of a free update and both are therefor gifts.
And the dinorama feature got much more widespread excitement then the leopard, which general perception can be very acuratly be described as underwhelming
Fair re free update. For me, the huge difference is, that we support the free updates much more with our money and the diorama probably took a lot more programming time that could have spend elsewhwere than to reskin an animal.

At the end of the day, a lot of people also actually asked and wished for the African Leopard. I can't remember anyone even remotely asking for a diorama mode.

Yeah now that i know i'm never getting the SA animals i want i can enjoy this pack specially since 3 of the animals revealed has been in my wishlist for while (african leopard, Palla's cat, markhor). I do hope we get some surprises. I don't see how the dik dik, secretary and tortoise fit into this theme though so maybe there is more coming? But i don't want to speculate. Is a weird theme for a final pack but so far very good animal selection.

There is a koi lantern. Could we be getting a koi pond as a new type of exhibit? Of course not, but is fun imagining that.

Or better yet make it a habitat animal. They are easily big enough and there really inst any valid reson to put them into the exhibit in my eyes
My only gripe with that is that we'd get another crocodile situation where an animal that's supposed to be mostly sedentary (I don't mean literally, but just don't move often) will then move around a lot. The gators and Crocs move too much, and so do the koalas
