DLC18 discussion and predictions

My only gripe with that is that we'd get another crocodile situation where an animal that's supposed to be mostly sedentary (I don't mean literally, but just don't move often) will then move around a lot. The gators and Crocs move too much, and so do the koalas
Pro tip: place like 1 log in the habitat and the crocs cant move anywhere because their traversable area is really bad. Imagine it will be similar with a salamander

YAY FOR THE AFRICAN LEOPARD
Yes there are people who are happy about it
Just do what everyone else has told us all these years, go to mods for the things you want
dont throw stones in a glass house the african leopard is one of the easiest things to mod in but almost all the people who actively dont want the leopard want something that is much harder if impossible to mod in right.

Is it just me or something about the leopard feels... Off?
Like, too skinny or something.
It reminds me a bit of the first leopard mods from 2021

Well, it makes sense they emphasize those features that make the differences between an African and an Amur leopard. The cold-climate subspecies is shaggy and lighter, while the tropical subspecies is slender (short hair) and brighter yellow. The African leopard is also going to make for a better black panther, I think that's one of the best things it adds to the game. Although I won't complain about it, I do agree with the general view that it's the weakest anniversary animal we have gotten so far.

  • Chinese Giant Salamander (better be a habitat animal as well!!!)
I hope that's not the case, although I like the idea of having them in the roster. They are veeeeery static animals, even more than the other amphibians we have in the exhibits. And they normally live in zoos in an aquarium not bigger than our 4 meter exhibit (that can hold a yellow anaconda). The only good thing of getting a giant salamander as habitat animal would be that it frees the exhibit slot for another species that is even more needed.

The real question is, do cobras or chameleons live in highlands?
I'm not sure about cobras, but the veiled chamaleon lives in the very same Arabian and Yemeni mountains where the hamadryas baboon lives. I am very strongly crossing fingers for that. It's one of our best chances for a chamaleon we have had in the last packs... But then the Oceania DLC was a perfect chance for a gecko and we got another fruit bat, so I don't want to be hurt again...

Now, about feathery friends... What are our best options for a proper bird in a Highlands DLC? Himalayan monal is very cool and has been mentioned a lot, but any pheasant would make me happy too. Any good candidate outside Asia?

After getting the sloth, I really wish we could go back and put the koala in the WTE and replace it with another animal in the DLC. 😅

My prediction for the next/last DLC:

Highlands Animal Pack

Habitat:
  1. Hamadryas Baboon
  2. Markhor
  3. Pallas Cat
  4. Goodfellow’s Tree Kangaroo
  5. Kirk’s Dik-Dik
  6. Secretary Bird
  7. Spectacled Bear
Exhibit:
  1. Chinese Giant Salamander

One thing I've not seen mentioned. There's a Zookeeper at the centre of the image, Zookeepers are not present in the banners usually, so Zookeeper's collection seems like a pretty good guess. Granted the background animals aren't typically 3D, so maybe this isn't the banner.

In terms of being mountains, Eurasia's background was mountains, this is a hill/cliff in the foreground of a forest.

Combined with the fact it's a confirmed Early Anniversary update, it does sound like a final update, even if it's just old world stuff so far, so I'd be cautious on expecting more.

I do hope it's the expected zookeeper final pack, I don't know if the forum can handle another dlc speculation thread so soon.

I don't disagree at all, but the African leopard is such a silly thing to include. Oh well, as you say, it's free.
I also didn't need it (though ironically the model looks way better than any large cat we paid for in my opinion, lol). But as a free gift, I can just shrug it off. If it would have been another "rarely kept in zoos" animal we are asked to pay for, I wouldn't be happy at all and absolutely complain.
And really, a lot of players wanted it for that silly "big 5 thing", so if they are happy - awesome.

Fair re free update. For me, the huge difference is, that we support the free updates much more with our money and the diorama probably took a lot more programming time that could have spend elsewhwere than to reskin an animal.

At the end of the day, a lot of people also actually asked and wished for the African Leopard. I can't remember anyone even remotely asking for a diorama mode.
Im happy for everyone who wished for the leopard, but imo its just as fair to criticise it.

Free update is free update and we should either be excluding all from criticism or none, as they same arguments why x free update wasnt a great choice can just as easily be turned on the leopard.
For example the american black bear is a far more popular animal that would have used a similar amount of ressources to make but would have most likly made much more people happy while also being less underwhelming for anyone else who didnt activly want them as they are atleast their own species and an actual zoo animal.

+ its much fairer to compare different animals to each other then potential update features, as frankly none of us have a clue how much work it took to make the dinorama feature, could have been months, could have been weeks, could have been days, we dont know.
Meanwhile assuming that making a second leopard or black bear is a much more compareable task then for example dinoramas and guest binocullars or any other possible free update features as we simply cant know how much work theyd take.
Best example are the ground paints.
Many people assumed that adding just more paints would be easy when its apparantly the max limit the engine can take, so including a new ground paint would be way way more work then wed most likly expect.

But when your doing a zookeeper collection pack it seems weird to so heavily theme it for mountains
Not saying its impossible, but the art would be a rather odd choice.

Like i when seeing the pack i immediately interpreted it as a mountain pack, three fitting animals, the big rock structure the baboons are on, the cool ish colors. Even the flags in the corner looked like those tibetan prayer flags you see in basicly any asian highland section in zoos (although after looking them up they seem to always be square rather than triangular)

But some of us can't rely on mods, mods has never worked for me so Frontier adding the leopard was my only hope
Plus I mostly play franchise

I'd take it with a grain of salt. After all, some of the banners have the spotlight on a species most don't care for. I.e. NAAP, why focus on the beaver when you could do the moose or puma?
The SEA animal pack looks nothing like the other animal packs (and it's really bugging me. Fix the art please)

Yeaaa but you see, they're REALLY cool guys, so they should, you know, live a little, go out, party, not sit in a box all day, but that's just me xD
But really I just want to build a nice little lily pond garden and have them lounge around it. But really they should be a WTE animal so they have a bit more room and can at least swim a bit
