DLC18 discussion and predictions

If you guys had a desirable pack with the 3 animals and the highlands/mountain/asia theme what would the roster be?

For me, it would be:
Palla's Cat [Headliner]
Hamadrya's Baboon
Markhor

Domestic Yak - A frontier decision probably, it would look really well if it done properly and the color variant's will look awesome!

Golden Snub Nosed Monkey - The second primate of this pack, it may seem like an Odd guy to add but the Chinese Player base have been begging for this to be added as its the Main Star Attraction and due to this pack looking like its centered to Asia, I really want this guy to join.

Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo - An Obvious pick and Oceania representation that has been begged to have joined this game, it looks really clear, and I would love this guy to join.

Alpine Marmot/Spectacled Bear- Both are good with one bringing Latin and the other bringing Europe representation. I personally am more on the Alpine Marmot side after wanting a rodent a lot after seeing them in a trip at Europe.

Not to mention the animals, but for me full-art Eurasia says more about Highland than the background that has now been shown
I can't see those mountains, the only thing I'm holding on to here are the species
The thing with this background is that we can clearly see the Hamadrya's Baboon on a high mountain steppe, the Palla's cat that lives in only high altitudes and resides in snowy areas, and the Markhor which is seen almost every time in High Mountain Places.

I'm predicting it as a Mountain Animal Pack or an Highlands Pack with most of the roster being Asian Animals with the other 2 being Marmot, Tree Kangaroo or Spectacled Bear.

Guy let's face it. The scenery in the render art all points to a celebration, something festive, even if the colors don't match. It will released around the fifth anniversary of the game. So far it features 3 highly requested animals. It is the final pack. Is a collection pack celebrating us the community with a lot of "gifts" (popular animals).

I would love for it to be something like Old World because that would imply there is a new world pack also but is just the collection pack.

The full-art quite literally clearly shows a Highland/Mountain Night Theme with all the 3 revealed animals being High Altitude Animals
I completely disagree.

A highland/mountain theme should honestly very clearly show mountains. In the same way that it was instantly obvious from the Wetlands key-art that it was about Wetlands, because it had a wetland in the background. It was instantly obvious from the Arid key-art that you'd be looking for Arid/Desert animals, because it had a desert in the background. It was instantly obvious from the Grasslands pack that it was a grassland themed pack because it has grasslands in the background.

A good biome-themed key-art should instantly make you go "Yes, this is super obvious this biome", and it should not rely on the animals present in the key-art. Because the key-art is for your general audience, not only just for your hardcore zoo fans. And not all of your general audience members out there know every animal, there's plenty of people who discover new animals through games like Planet Zoo (and Zoo Tycoon 2 before it). So the animals should not be the defining clue, especially as far as we are now where more lesser known animals come to the forefront.

So when I look at this key-art, the single most obvious element for a mountain pack is missing. A big mountain. A clear couple of larger than normal hills. Instead, we have a forest, with a small hill where the baboons are sitting on, a cat that's sitting on a single rock. There's so many more clear and obvious designs for a highlands/mountain pack, this would be a weird choice. Because sorry, no, this is not a hilly or a mountain landscape. This is a forest with a small hill.

If we then look at the flags, whilst some people instantly made the connection to Tibetan flags, they used ingame flags and opted for the flags that do not look at the Tibetan flags (whilst they had ones that do). The lanterns and the tent in the back further underscore a more "celebration" theme for me, especially as the tent looks much more like a generic party tent than a Tibetan tent to me.

Am I completely ruling out a highland/mountain theme? No. But then I would say the key-art does not match up with it as good as the previous DLCs have done.

With everything above, and the fact that in the stream they said "We're releasing the anniversary update a bit earlier because we got something coming with it", I'm more and more convinced that we're looking at some kind of "Animal Celebration" or "Planet Zoo Anniversary" pack.

I agree with this - more and more convinced that the Pallas cat, the baboon and the markhor are the 'mountainous' animals in the pack, and we may get another teaser image with another three animals with a different themed image.

This leads to the conclusion that Frontier is trying to trick the community by only showing the highland animals and intentionally leaving out the non-highland animals.

It seems more likely, to me at least, that the key-art just doesn't fit your definition of "good".

My personal bet is Friday the 4th as the reveal day, because I'm much more convinced at this point that it's a celebration-based pack than a mountain pack, so World Animal Day seems like the perfect reveal data for that. Friday reveals are unusual, but they have done it on special occasions and the NA pack was released on World Animal Day as well so it wouldn't be the first time that they tie it to that.

Out of curiosity, what other animals would you put in a celebration pack?

I see, so this may mean that this could be the final pack with the "Celebration Fiasco" theme with all the highly requested animals.

If so, this is what I think the pack would look like:

Feline
  • Palla's Cat - Confirmed
  • African Leopard - Confirmed [NOT APART OF THE DLC]

Primate:
  • Hamadrya's Baboon - Confirmed
  • Coquerel's Sifaka - Dictionary

Ungulates
  • Markhor - Confirmed
  • Kirk's Dik Dik - Dictionary

Others [Reptiles, Mammals]
  • African Spurred Tortoise- Dictionary
  • South American Coatimundi - Pure Speculation
  • Short-Beaked Echidna - Dictionary
  • King Cobra [E] - Pure Speculation

Birds
  • Secretary Bird - Dictionary
  • Great White Pelican - Pure Speculation

Pallas Cat
Hamadryas Baboon
Markhor
Kirk’s Dik Dik
Secretary Bird
Coquerels Sifaka
African Spurred Tortiose
????? Ex
We have a few options going off of dictionary words. Stuff like pythons, cobras, mambas, and the Lord Howe stick insect are the most likely options though.

Also, two of the dictionary words are "Goodfellow" and "echidna", to complicate matters on that list of animals.

This leads to the conclusion that Frontier is trying to trick the community by only showing the highland animals and intentionally leaving out the non-highland animals.
That would be a weird conclusion to draw tbh. 🤷‍♂️

Just because a lot of people initially jumped to the conclusion of a highlands pack, doesn't mean that that was Frontier's intention. Especially given the fact that Frontier doesn't have a track record of trying to trick people.

Out of curiosity, what other animals would you put in a celebration pack?
Personally, I think the theme would then be "weird and wonderful" animals, so anything that fits that category would work. Celebrating the uniqueness of certain animals, stuff like that.

But the screen quality is great and we can see a another markhor in the back

As for my thoughts... I don't know why, but all the animal packs had blurred backgrounds (with DLC colour).... You could see other species for example, but without much detail.... Here, on the other hand, you can see and Pallas the cat and the baboons, but also the trees in the background and other things....
For me personally, the keeper (Zookeeper) is puzzling.... Also those Christmas cards in the top left corner....
As far as the animals are concerned, 90% that it is DLC related to the mountains.... But when it comes to the look of the DLC banner, I'm not so sure anymore.... Perhaps this Zookeeper is the hint that it is something with Zookeeper in the name? I don't know... Perhaps there aren't just 8 species, but for example 10-12? Plus DLC + game anniversary at one time.... For me personally it's a done deal that we won't see any more DLC, but who knows.... (I'd like to have more, but like someone wrote, Barnyand + what's coming out now would fall in May 2025, that's when the financial year closes...).... We don't know what's next, maybe they'll start releasing DLC for PC + Console at the same time.... We also don't know what the game is that's coming in 2027.... However, if it were otherwise, that it's not DLC related to mountains, then why such animals on the banner?
So many questions and so few answers.... 😂 🙈

Out of curiosity, what other animals would you put in a celebration pack?
Coati
A new world monkey
Pelican
Secretary
Duck
Musk ox
Walrus
Tree kangaroo
Spectacled bear
American black bear
Blackbuck

I think those are the animals that have been requested for the longest time and that have quite a following. I would personally love mara and rhea but i know is just me and don't really count as "most wanted animals" enough to be considered adequate for a celebration pack.

If Frontier is planning on revealing more shots of animals ahead of a trailer reveal then they're not doing a very good job at highlighting that or creating hype around it. I have to imagine that if they had plans for more reveals ahead of the trailer that they would be telling us to be on the lookout for something else on the socials...

Plus: When you look at that shot? You can see pretty clearly where the Planet Zoo logo and pack descriptor will be.
