DLC18 discussion and predictions

Yeah switched from Mountain but after closer look it's release same day with Anniversary Update. Its an Early Anniversary Celebration pack with all of them being over 50s in the Meta Wishlist expect 2 SO FAR. I'm hoping the last two slots go to Walrus and Coatimundi/New World Monkey and Chameleon.
Honestly, this worries me.
If it is an anniversary pack, it is 100% our last pack... And I'm even less optimistic about it.
Pallas' Cat would have been great, just not in a final DLC. Same goes for Markhor. They already feel like two very weird choices.

Hope the rest of the animals are more in line with what the community asks for, although the alleged dictionary leaks make me feel very sceptical about this pack.
This IS our last chance of getting any new animals at all, and it's not looking great.
But I guess we'll have to wait and see...
Well, time to be disappointed again.

Current Final 12 animal pack with dictionary "leaks":

  • Hamadrya's Baboon
  • Palla's Cat
  • Markhor
  • [Name] Echidna
  • [Name] Sifaka
  • [Name] Dik-Dik
  • African Spurred Tortoise
  • Goodfellows Tree Kangaroo
  • Secretary Bird
  • SLOT OPEN
  • SLOT OPEN
  • SLOT OPEN [E]

I don't know why Sifaka and Dik-Dik should be added, this pack is starting to really look like a originally scrapped animal pack but added together with all of them being super high in meta Wishlist expect Sifaka and Dik-Dik.
Kirk’s dik-diks are super common in British zoos and are generally quite popular at the zoo, since they’re small and have a euphemistic name. They’re found at London, Chester, Edinburgh, Marwell and Longleat.

Plus, people have generally said that, if there are going to be more ungulates, they would like smaller ungulates…

I think what throws it all out of whack is the fact that some names were deleted and are now clearly in the pack (including Hamadryas--which was added the same time as those two)! That's the one reason I have any doubt about those two. But the lack of deletion could also just have been an error. So... Who knows? 🥸

I think I'm just trying to temper my own expectations and accept that the tree kangaroo might not be coming because I am crazy for them and I'm tired of huffing copium.
I really want Tree Kangaroo, it's looking like all Dictionary Animals are coming especially the once's that got removed.

I'm really happy though with the outcome. It's looking like a bunch of High Meta-Wishlist Animals are in it.

Those who are denying it, probably haven't seen enough evidence yet for them to count it true or in Denial because LATMA is left with so much missing.

Based on the leaks its looking like a pack with the original 8 leaked, palla's cat, and 3 more open spots with 1 being exhibit.

It does look like a good finale pack though, just feel like people hate it because they realized that there is not that much LATMA Representation. Basically there going through the 5 stages of grief.

I do see Walrus appearing in this pack as the 3rd pinniped as its asked so much.

Your profile pic just reminded me, that if it is Mountain pack after all, that Capercaillie would be both cool and viable choice for roster

Yeah, people have been loving it. I don't see it as a bad pick I really like it. I think the people who are unhappy about it is because they see Muntjac or Pudu as a better pick.

So lets look back at our options:
  • Highlands/Mountains (All 3 animals fit)
  • Celebration/Anniversary (All 3 fit although strange that the Pallas cat is the headliner if this is the case imo)
  • Old World (All 3 fit but idk doesn't seem likely)
  • Asia (2 fit, Hamadryas baboon is iffy)
Really can't decide which is more likely between the first 2 🤔
Old World, Asia or Anniversary, there would be more emphasis on mountains.

Pudu would be great. I think the muntjac is a US thing - they’re pests here
They're pests here too!
From what I know, there's a huge introduced population in the UK, and as for Italy... according to one keeper at the local zoo - which we'll refer to as The Bison Man - "we had 15 or 16 of them but they forced us to get rid of most of em"

Edit: it's late and I didn't realise that you're probably from the UK 😅 I'm just really confused at this time of day

Hi. I just joined the forums but I've been lurking on this thread for a while. I'm really hoping for another canine if the pack is either highlands or Asia.

Asia has some great choices like:
If animal also fits highlands theme as well as Asia I will give this symbol * and this color text.
Most wanted (my most wanted) label with red bolded text and the words Most Wanted.

Golden Jackal Most Wanted (Most wanted but probably unlikely because not much requested. It's also not a highland animal if that's the pack's theme. There's no coyote/jackal niche canid in the game and I really need either a jackal species or the coyote or both would be absolutely amazing but I'm just hoping for one or the other at this point and coyotes don't fit with neither an Asian theme nor a highlands theme, but golden jackals are in Asia.)

Mainland Raccoon Dog or Tanuki Most Wanted (probably more likely both lumped together as the same species if included. Slightly better chance as they are on the wishlist and they are a very unique-looking canid, especially compared to the other canids in the game. Would fill the "odd-ball" canid niche. They aren't found in highlands though.)

Nyctereutes.png

Indian Wolf Most Wanted (Yes, I know it's another wolf but it's pretty distinctive looking and it fills a different niche being from desert/middle eastern region instead of from temperate or tundra regions in North America or Europe like the Timber Wolf and Arctic Wolf. Also not a highlands animal.)
Indian_Wolf_Photo_Dhaval_Vargiya.jpg

Corsac Fox (Another fox isn't high up on my wishlist but he is a pretty guy, and I'd take any canid at this point. Plus he fits in with the Chinese theme going on in the pack's key art as they range a small amount into China. His page on Canids.org says they specifically avoid mountainous areas though, so wouldn't fit a highlands pack.)
326px-Vulpes_corsac.jpg

Tibetan Fox* (Honestly, the most likely of any of these canids to make it. It fits a Tibetan and/or Himalayan theme perfectly that seems be going on with the most of the revealed animal picks and the scenery on the key art. It also lives in "upland plains and hills" which could fit a highlands theme. Also we already got the weird-looking meme cat, Pallas Cat, so now we need the weird-looking meme dog, Tibetan Fox.)
tibetanfox.png

Blanford's Fox* (Live in mountainous regions in the Middle East so would fit within the same theme as the Hamadryas baboons. Another strong contender for the pack if it's Asian highland-themed but if we have to have another fox as the next canid, I'd still personally prefer the Tibetan Fox for its more distinctive look.)
blanfordfox.png

Ruppell's Fox* (lives in "mountains in the Sahara Desert. Ahaggar mountains of Algeria." It also ranges in the Middle East in the countries of Saudi Arabia and Iran, so again would fit with the baboons in theme. Again not high on my wishlist, would rather have Tibetan fox if it has to be a fox.)

New Guinea Highland Wild Dog/ New Guinea Singing Dog* Most Wanted (I would be happy with them but I can see people rioting over it being just another dingo even now and it would make much more sense game wise to have something like a tree kangaroo for New Guinea to boost the game's roster for more animal diversity. Plus it's pretty easy to mod them off the dingo if I can manage to install ACSE without my game-crashing so I can use mods again. There's even a mod of them now, but it's sadly outdated and I believe it was made out of the wolf, not the dingo, possibly because the Australia pack hadn't been released at the time?)

Himalayan Wolf/Tibetan Wolf* Most Wanted (Asian/Tibetan/Himalayan theme? Check. Highlands theme? Lives in Himalayan mountains, so check. Cute fluffy golden good boi? Yes, he is. Who's a cute fluffy good boi? You are, yes you are.)

If it's a world-wide highlands pack and not just Asia/Middle East, then I would want the following species:

Ethiopian Wolf Most Wanted(I really need these in the game. They were in Zoo Tycoon 2 and I really want them in Planet Zoo. Also we need a wolf that's actually another species and not just a subspecies of Gray Wolf. They live in the Ethiopian Highlands.)
Ethiopian_wolf_(Canis_simensis_citernii).jpg

Culpeo aka Andean Fox Most Wanted ( Hello, South America. Andean mountains are part of their range. Also, even though they are called foxes, they fill the South America "false fox" niche as they are more closely related to wolves than true foxes, despite their appearance. They are pretty obscure animal though and I know most people would prefer the Spectacled/Andean Bear, which I'd also be very happy with. Also, I was pleasantly surprised that someone made a mod of this obscure canid, so atleast there's that even if it's likely to never get in the game.)
culpeo.jpg

And if you kind of squint these two other South American canids might also fit in a highlands/mountain theme:

Short-eared Dog (One of the habitats they live in is montane forest. They're also pretty oddball looking.)

Crab-eating Fox (One of the habitats they live in is montane forest.)

The Indian wolf would fit so well as an Anniversary Animal, most of these canines and jackal's dont get as much love as they deserve. I don't see any hope of them joining yet as Planet Zoo. I already think that Indian Wolf could and probably will be hopefully a base game animal in PZ2.

oh my gosh if we get the Indian Wolf before we get the generic Eurasian Wolf, I will never play this damn game again😂

I'm still fully on Mountain train, I'm really not seeing the zookeeper/celebration angle to be honest.
After all the talk around here i can defiently see the final pack angle, although i still hold onto that the pack art would be really confusing for that.

Like at first glance without looking anything up i was 110% convinced that this is a mountain/highlands pack. There are alot of asian highland/himalaya themed areas that seem to pop up in european zoos in recent years so ive seen a couple of those, and those tibetan prayer flags are something that you see really often there (probably because they are cheap and easy to do and really convey the vibe).
Also i watch a couple youtubers that cover masterplans published by german zoo and i remember that one was planing a new domestics section, which is supposed to have a subsection named himalayan village, tibetan village or something like that. Essentially small area for like yaks, i think camels and some goats if i remember correctly. And the concept art had the prayer flags hanging above and one of those nomadic tents as the backdrop for the habitats. Although now that i was looking for it i cant find it, so if anyone by any chance knows what im talking about id like to know :D . So when that was what i saw in the pack art, together with 3 of the most requested animals for a mountain pack it didnt take any convincing for me to believe that this is a mountain pack.

Now after the talk here and looking stuff up the flags dont really look like the typical flags and neither does the tent, so really i have no clue what to expect. :D

I mean, Frontier has been averse to adding much of any SA animals, so there is a very real shot that we get zero SA animals in this DLC.
in this particular instance, zero would be better than the Mountain Tapir. It would be such an insult to include a third tapir over any of the many requested South American species, some of them very highly requested. Heck, the Spectacled Bear is pretty highly requested and would be just as easy to do as another Tapir - and I know that we already have a ton of bears, but it would at least be a new type of animal for the continent, and it is highly requested.

ETA: Also just realizing that the world Grey is in the dictionary, so we could also get the Grey Kangaroo as a new world animal.

I would argue that the Timber Wolf in the game is the generic Gray Wolf as well and applies to any forest-dwelling Gray Wolf subspecies, including both North American subspecies and Eurasian subspecies that live in forests. I've seen some people suggest that it's specifically the Mackenzie Valley/ Northwestern subspecies from North America but I have no idea where they got that evidence/idea from to support that. Timber Wolf is just a slang term that refers to any subspecies of Gray Wolf that lives in a forest environment. The choice to call them Timber Wolves in the game rather than simply Gray Wolves is quite odd to me though. In contrast, Indian Wolves have been proven more ancient than other Grey Wolf subspecies, quite genetically distinct, and there's been on-going debates on whether they should be considered a separate species due to the large genetic differences between them and other gray wolf subspecies.
