DLC18 discussion and predictions

if there's going to be multiple different keyarts like some people are speculating
Man, that would be so sick. Big old fantasy, but imagine 3 sets of key art revealing 3 animals each covering different themes to come to a total of 9 species as a big send off. As I said, big fantasy, definitely not the case, but it would be nice.

Highlands (Pallas' cat, markhor, baboon), Birds (pelican, secretarybird, rhea or something), Treetops (coati, tree kangaroo, sifaka). Granted there are only two animals among these nine I actually care about (baboon, pelican) but I feel like such a selection would give a lot of folks their jollies.

  • Planet Zoo has a song called two flamingos
  • Game only has one flamingo
  • Highlands theme with a possible colder environment
  • Do you know what flamingo can live in colder weather and lives in high altitudes?

Would you like my money now or later Frontier?

The Arctic Pack is definitely darker. There's also a a few touches of green that make it feels more akin to Aurora Borealis to me.
There are parts of the keyart that are the same shade, and we don't know exactly what the "title" shade for this pack will be if that makes sense.

The new key art feels more like a foggy morning in comparison.
Or a misty mountain.

Probably to make the pack seem more connected than it actually may be.
That just doesn't convey what the pack is about then?

Anyway, I'm getting kinda tired of debating about this, it's mostly going around in circles. It'll turn out to be what it turns out to be - I'm still pretty convinced its highlands, but if it's not, then the keyart conveys the theme even more poorly than a mountains pack without a mountain.

To be honest I’m happy to talk about actual solid evidence that isn’t the dictionary (which we saw to be unreliable) and meta wishlist stuff/ hearsay.

Huh? There's a mountain in the picture. The baboons are sitting on it. Sure, it's not Mt Everest, but it's pretty clearly supposed to represent a zoo's approximation of a mountain.
There's no lofty mountains in the background though, which is enough for some people to think highlands are less likely than other potential themes. I don't agree to be clear, though how frequently giant mountains appear in the background of PZ keyart only for there to be none in the literal mountains pack would be very funny.

Looking at it more thoroughly, I can kind of see why someone might think there are celebratory elements in the art. Aside from the three alpine species, the rest could give off a "garden party" vibe, even the creeping plants in the foreground. That said, it's like others have been saying; there's absolutely no reason it can't be both a celebratory send off and a mountain pack. It's not like Frontier has promised us the "Zookeeper's Collection", after all.

But why is the dictonairy seen as completely unreliable at this moment? Only because the word "Pallas" wasn't in there? Because it still got two out of three animals right. (African leopard doesn't contain any new words so it also still fits). The other animals that showed up, could still be coming. Just maybe not all in the same pack.

Part of it is the Pallas cat, obviously we will see if the rest of the dictionary rumors become true.

My understanding is that a lot of animals in game already don’t have part of their name in the dictionary, others are in there only because of other animals.

Completely unreliable was definitely a poor choice of words on my part, maybe I should have said we shouldn’t have treated it like gospel.

Honesty if we’re talking specific species I think the hyrax has the greatest chance of making it. If they are tying in African species with Asia for a mountains pack the hyrax just makes the most sense to come alongside the baboon. The aoudad sadly is unlikely cause of the Markhor but the hyrax is very unique in general compared to the roster of 3 we have so far.

Plus look how cute they’re like little potato’s

So updating my list from before:
Highlands (or Uplands - a name I thought of last night as well) Animal Pack
  • Pallas Cat
  • Hamadryas Baboon
  • Markhor
  • Rock Hyrax
  • Golden Pheasant or Rhea if they wanna do something simpler
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Another ungulate (Yak, Serow, etc.)
  • Chameleon species, Titicaca Frog, or Giant Salamander (E)
I feel like people are too focused on what the theme is that they fail to see what actually could be included in that theme. I mean come on if we get the roster above that’s one of the best packs at this point (imo).

Why is everyone so sure about the yak? I see it popping up everywhere. It's such an uninspired choice.
How should I understand the word "uninspired" to describe animals? Also, most people who want yaks want wild yaks, not domesticated yaks. There are only two zoos in the world that raise wild yaks, and the number of people on this forum who have seen them can be counted on one hand. How can they be seen everywhere?
