DLC18 betting thread

If we are talking a Latin America pack I think the ideal to make the community happy would be obvious:

  1. Coati
  2. Any Monkey
  3. Mara
  4. Rhea
  5. Spectacled Bear
  6. Ocelot
  7. One of the pink bird trio
  8. Two-Toed Sloth, Tree Boa, Titicaca Frog, I don't think most people care about the exhibit really.
If we get the Bear in, replace it with the Tamandua or at a stretch... the squirrel monkey (borrowing all the animations of the capuchin).

Probably going to get Highlands, which out of the speculated possibilities, it is my least favorite one, so best to lower my expectations.
  1. Pallas Cat
  2. Markhor
  3. Hamadryas Baboon
  4. Himalayan Monal
  5. Tree Kangaroo (Any mountain species will do)
  6. Rock Hyrax
  7. Rocky Mountain Elk
  8. Anything really, a Chameleon if it's appropriate for a WTE
The Elk and Tree Roo are the only mountain species I really want, maybe along with a Guanaco or Vicuña but I don't want to replace the hyrax or monal with a third ungulate.

I realised I didn't put my bet here so here it is:

  1. Pallas' Cat
  2. Markhor
  3. Hamadryas Baboon
  4. Spectacled Bear
  5. Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo
  6. Yak
  7. Himalayan Monal
  8. Veiled Chameleon

Still definitely think this is a Mountains or similar pack, and I’m thinking something like:

1. Pallas Cat
2. Hamadryas Baboon
3. Markhor
4. Spectacled Bear
5. Goodfellow’s Tree Kangaroo
6. Bighorn Sheep
7. Alpine Marmot
Ex. Some kind of chameleon. Does Jackson’s Chameleon live in mountains? Those look sick

Also I’m about 60% leaning towards this being this last pack, but hope I’m wrong

My crackpot bet, maybe it'll be legit.
  • Coquerel's Sifaka
  • Goodfellow's Tree-Kangaroo
  • Hamadryas Baboon
  • Kirk's Dik-Dik
  • Markhor
  • Pallas's Cat
  • Short-Beaked Echidna
  • African Spurred Tortoise (Walkthrough Exhibit)
  • Black Mamba (Standard Exhibit)
  • Burmese Python (Standard Exhibit)
  • King Cobra (Standard Exhibit)
  • Lord Howe Stick Insect (Standard Exhibit)

The African Spurred Tortoise is nearly as large as the habitat tortoises we have in game already. In no way could it be an exhibit animal.

I believe spurred tortoises may be walkthrough exhibit animals or a few reasons:
  • Although third-largest tortoise, the difference in size between sulcatas and Aldabras is quite significant (80-100cm vs. 120cm respectively for males), this puts them at a "pseduo-intermediate" in size
  • Many people have complained about the island tortoises breeding too fast and dying before they reach food/water, a walkthrough exhibit helps resolve this issue
  • The Hermann's tortoise from the Eurasian Pack may have acted as a litmus test for how people would respond to exhibit tortoises
  • Walthrough exhibits are quite roomy, it's plenty big enough to act as a lawn for a few sulcatas (their small average is roughly the same size as a large brown-throated sloth, believe it or not!)

Yes. Japan's fauna is super underrated.

I'm more confused about the African leopard, to be honest. People keep citing the Big Five, a trophy-hunting concept that is kind of the antithesis of what zoos are about.
The Big Five of Africa is mostly used as a marketing term for conserving charismatic megafauna and tourism these days (also hunting is a fantastic conservation tool, as backwards as it may seem). There's even a "Little 5" that was adopted as a foil to this term!

Wait, what's this Little 5? What does it consist of?
