Another plea do finally do something about the unstable Multiplayer Situation.

Rent VPS close to your location, for example I have one with 8 ms ping to, 12 eur/3 months. Install there openVpn. Connect 1 PC through VPN, other use direct connection. It should solve the problems, because VPN PC will have that remote IP.
All of this doesn't help when my Wife gets booted out and lands thousands of Lightyears away at her last station.

The only other option I can think of is for the two of you to have your own personal fleet carrier. I'm assuming here that if she does get booted off then it's back to the carrier for her and not to some godforsaken system thousands of light years away.

I don't understand what the problem is, on the one hand there are many single player games in the space where you can do that, and on the other hand, in Elite you have the option to play alone without anyone bothering you if you don't want.
There is no problem. I just disagree on the "no point in existing" point. It's not like I don't play with others from time to time, but I wouldn't mind Elite to be Single Player game at all. For me that would get rid of a few things like Carrier upkeep when I'm actually not playing and I could have multiple saves and so on and so forth. Also: Mods.
But it is what it is and I'm okay with that too. Otherwise I wouldn't be playing for almost 10 years now. :D

I sunk endless hours into Frontier on my Amiga in the 90s. I would do the same in Elite single player.

In reality, the maintenance of the carrier does not depend on it being an online game, nor the use of Mods (aesthetic mods can be used in online games)... Those are just decisions that Frontier opted for when using its game.

They can't opt for deducting fees ingame when the game in question is not an online game an no time passes when I'm not running it... so. :D
But that was still not my point. I just wouldn't mind Elite to be a single player game and would play just the same. I actually don't think there's anything to discuss here.

These decisions are clearly downstream from the always online wannabe-MMO decisions, though, and are generally justified/explained away as such whenever they become the topic of discussion.

More crucially: for many of us the loss of online functionality would be a worthy tradeoff if it translated into a moddable client, multiple save slots, etc.

If you want single player Elite just play Oolite; mods and as many save slots as you want. You're not missing much. Slightly better graphics, better galaxy and foot (which many players say they don't want anyway). Pretty much the rest is all MP stuff. Landing on planets is neat but largely pointless, engineering is pointless in a SP game (and nothing you can't fix with mods). Fully open source so put your money where your mouth is and change it to what you want. I'm sure the Oolite players will enjoy the action. 🤷‍♂️

I played Oolite and I like it. I recommend the 3D version of First Encounters though. I pretty much disagree on the rest actually.

Good for you, seriously. I quit wasting my time and nerves on the Crew/Teams garbage years ago.
We would rather play Elite with a stable physical Multicrew experience. Or at least the option to return to the Ship you got disconnected From. This works only for Telepresence atm.

The secret, is too not wing up. Just be 2 or however many cmdrs in the same locale.
With my wife & l on separate isps this works 100%
Soon as we attempt to wing up it all goes sideways

I'm really glad Elite wasn't given up on. I am Glad it regularly gets new Ships now (Even if they are handled in the same manner as in the other Space Game).
Yet one of my biggest issue and probably others too, is that Physical Multicrew is still a mess.

My Wife wants to play Elite with me but she does not want to fly herself. We basically want to operate in one Ship which is simply not possible.
Be it 50 Seconds or 5 Minutes, at some Point she gets a Error that kicks her out of my Ship. Always while in Supercruise or during a System jump. Telepresence works fine but you can not explore together or Scan Plantlife together in Telepresence since Telepresence does not allow you to get out of the Ship. I also can not do any ground Missions with her cause she usually gets a error just while supercrusing.

We tried like what feels like 500 Guides on port forwarding that did not work, we tried to a point where we bought new routers.
This is the sole Reason we still play the "other Space Game". It may be way more buggy but at least she can physically stay in my Ship without getting kicked.

Thanks for reading and considering.
Have a pleasant day.
I'm really glad Elite wasn't given up on <<<<< Talk to XP and PS owners who love this game and see if they share the same view.
