DLC18 discussion and predictions

Sexism thats why Simulation, cozy and building games are associated with a more feminine archetype of gamer which in turn makes people criticise them as not true games because there is no action or fighting its the sad unfortunate reality we live in.
Oh that's right. I know people have that stigma with The Sims and Stardew and those sorts of games, but for the genre as a whole I guess I memory-holed it out of my brain due to me liking sim/management games a lot and then outside that genre my preferred games that are also fps games are not the same games that are stereotypical "Man Games™" like, like sports games and whatever annual shooter-game that's out at the time (and will die within a few months, where then everyone will move on to the next doomed-to-die fps sadly)

Man don't you love gaming culture sometimes????

I know, but most people automatically think of them.
Rabbits aren't even rodents, they're lagomorphs.

FWIW, Lagomorphs were first named as a rodent suborder (the remaining suborders all share the -morph termination, and most of them were erected at the same time as lagomorphs), remained as a rodent suborder for a century, were only elevated to full order status due to phylopessimism and difference-based taxonomy linking them with horses (something similar almost happened to cavies with early genetic techniques), and are undoubtfully the closest relatives of rodents. We basically changed what being a rodent meant just to get rabbits out, and, if you ask me, it isn't that big of a mistake.

Bird and mammalian nomenclature is full of weird kneejerk takes.

I like how everyone is delving into the subcultures within the PZ community, I really like diving into gamer/gaming psychology and all that, it's really fun, even when the content itself can get a little gross and distasteful, but it's interesting to understand how gamers tick and how they think
I’m the person who buys the DLCs for console and pc but never plays.

Alright I’m back after god knows how many pages - tomorrow is (hopefully) it. Can’t wait to see what the rest of this final pack is. Locking in my prediction now. Is it probably wrong? Absolutely - but when has that ever stopped me lol

Well, you did it. You created a Highlands pack roster that lacks the tree kangaroo that would still make me feel ecstatic. I'd still be bummed but with this roster I'd get over it pretty quickly, I think. LOL

The baboon is whatever and should be the tree kangaroo instead. But the rest is awesome.

Good picks, now that I look at the serow more and more, I kinda want it now (sorry guys, ungulate addiction is real). They're just so strange looking, they're amazing.

This is fine. I'd rather the Himalayan monal than the golden pheasant (far more on-theme), but it's fine. I hope we get the serow.

But again, the baboon alone is worth buying the pack for. Whatever else is in it doesn't matter.

Reddit sometimes is clueless, still have hope in PZ.
Reddit is still about three years behind in terms of discussion topics.

Reddit is also so big and varied that the actual experts (real zookeepers, zoologists) and even the armchair experts (zoo and animal nerds) get drowned out by the gaggle so every discussion is just "I wAnT tHe [insert animal]".

Which is what discussions here also are, but they're usually accompanied by reasoned commentary, explanation, exposition, and so on.

Just curious but why not the Chinese goral over serow? It’s far more common in captivity.
The serow is more popular probably because of its inclusion in the Zoo tycoon franchise plus I would rather have an exotic ungulate from Japan, a place that we have barely anything from, than another from Asia seeing how we have the saiga and are now getting the markhor.

For me, because I've wanted to make a Japanese tea garden zone since release and still only have two species for it. But the goral is cool. Similar-ish to the Vietnamese saola, although that species is not in captivity anywhere and only seen a few times ever in the wild.
