DLC18 discussion and predictions

To be quite frank, I don’t appreciate being misrepresented like this. I’ve openly said multiple times that my proposal isn't even something I want. It’s based on modelling how we get as many dictionary animals as possible in a single pack and nothing more.
If I discussed what I wanted, my lists would be very different from my predictions.
Look man, cut the act and just admit that you're secretly one of the devs tryna troll us, ok? Then we can all get back to our team and crumpets or coffee and biscotti or milk and cookies

I have a question: Which models from the base game and year 1 dlcs do you think still hold well?

Seems like there was a bump in quality around the aquatic dlc, and another one around the Europe dlc.
Panda, red kangaroo, flamingo, gemsbok, elephants, Indian rhino, Siberian tiger, adult cheetah, giraffe, tortoises, sable antelope, Thomson gazelle, Pygmy hippo, hippo, Komodo dragon, nyala, gharial (except movement), gorilla, bonobo, chimp (just needs more variation on skin color) zebra, capuchin, anteater, cassowary, caiman, grey seal, king penguin, giant otter, pronghorn, formosan black bear, ring tailed lemur, Bongo, okapi (just needs shoulder fixed). Pangolin, Japanese macaque, red panda, aardvark, ostrich, dall sheep, arctic Wolf, reindeer, polar bear

I’m also not super picky but I think they’re mostly pretty good

I feel like the problem with this community is thinking frontiers is there friend.

They are not your friend, they may show gratitude occasionally but they will never talk with you or show bonds.

Most of the time, they do these community posts for the money and pure money.

Please do not think and say Frontier did ok with this or that. You have the right and have the responsibility to call them out on things.

We are the consumers and we are the ones who pay for their salarys. Not a pure friendship bound woohoo

Tortoises, flamingo, peafowl, lemurs, cassowary are some that i think still look really good to this day.
But to be honest i think pretty much every basegame, and most of the older DLC animals do show their age when you put them next to the new ones.
Most of them do share some minor issues, those being very vibrant colors and being rather "well fed".
Ofcourse some have more significant issues such as being very stylized like the lion, being limited by the tech from back then like the orang, having inaccurate models/colors like hyena and warthog or having inaccurate animations like the gharial

Honestly the first models were good in their time but now they look so off

But the models that i would say are very good these days are the next ones:

  • Komodo Dragón (chef kiss)
  • Bonobo
  • Western Chimpanzee
  • Pigmy Hippotamus
  • African Bush Elephant ( still good but it could be so much better with the new tools )
  • Aldabra Giant Tortoise ( i mean its model is good but the problem is the size )
  • Greter Flamingo
  • Souther Cassowary
  • Darwf Caiman
The rest are not bad but aren't the enough good to compare with the new ones

But it just doesn't make any sense from any perspective, so it just feel like this discussion is pointless

Tree Kangaroo seems likely for a highlands pack by sheer fact that none of the other usual suspects should take a lot of design and animation work, at least I don't think they will. There's always one in every pack that they take extra care on, sometimes even two animals in the 5+1 pack.
Keep in mind 2 of the 3 we've seen so far need extreme work for the fur (Markhor beard and baboon fluff), because of that I wouldn't be surprised if the one that takes a lot of work is the baboon.

If I was working for the devs, I'd be asking to join the marketing team to make up for what's been lacking

Feel free to look back at the discourse surrounding this subject.

I'm thinking mostly in terms of which models can just be copy-pasted into a sequel as they are. I think anything post South-East asia pack (including) can just go as is, but most stuff before needs tweaks. Animals I think are ready to go:

Base game:
  • Bonobo
  • Common ostrich
  • Greater flamingo
  • Indian peafowl
  • Komodo dragon
  • Pygmy hippo
  • Thomson gazelle
  • Western Chimpanzee
Year 1 dlcs:
  • Capuchin
  • Cuvier's dwarf caiman
  • Dall sheep
  • Dingo
  • Grey seal
  • King penguin
  • Southern cassowary

I forgot Dingo! Yea they were one of my early dlc favorites cause it was the first time we had the new canid animations

The cassowary is great
One of the animal modellers from 2023 must have time travelled to 2020 to make the southern cassowary, still easily one of the best looking animals in the game.

Cassowary 100%, the dingo was not half bad either, the Llama still holds up well, not as good as the Alpaca but still, then there is the White-Faced Capichun which is good, lastly the base game birds, lemurs, and Lesser Antelion Iguana

I don't remember exactly which were the year one DLCs

Arctic, Australia and South América?

If so the Cassowary is the one that still holds up against current animals. Dingos and dall sheep are alright, and i think llamas and capuchins are still pretty decent. I think llamas and anteaters would deffinetly benefit from the new fur textures (well all the animals but those would be the most shaggy of all the animals)

Also if we are counting deluxe i think all those animals are still pretty good.

Oh and about base game: i never has any problema with the elephants and giraffes. The Indian rhino looks also pretty good for base game. The peafowl i think still holds up very well though i wish they would add the iridiscent to the feathers (correct me if they already did that).

Carnivores are all atrocious tbh.

Lemurs are very good as well.

And i guess we are not considering newer additions like peccary and red deer.

And actually i don't have a problem with most of the ungulates in base game in regards to.models or skins (although all could use a glow up) but the main issue with them i think are the rigs.
