General / Off-Topic :D I’m so sick of the daily grind so I quit

To be honest it's the people that keep you there... So many good ones have gone lately which is worrying but there are still a huge number of really decent people around who care passionately about what they're doing. The people working in the NHS (particularly the front line staff) as it's greatest asset and the thing that will eventually save it if they are allowed to!

I couldn't agree more - The only thing I miss about leaving my job is the people I used to work with - (but I meet them every few weeks for lunch so I got the best of all worlds :D )

Congratulations on your decision, Marak. Whilst I still love my job and have many more years to go before retirement, I seriously envy you atm (in an emergency unit at this very moment - 16 hours done, 9 more to go - at least it's comparatively quiet tonight).

We don't have free health care in the United States so this isn't really that funny. If we get sick we go bankrupt.

That may be one of the problems with the NHS in the Uk... But if you fall ill vonFelty - take a holiday over here - we'll fix you up for free!

You REALLY shouldn't have said that...

Not in the sense you've probably interpreted it (English isn't my first language, not working for the NHS either, but a continental equivalent) - just a lower frequency of critically intoxicated patients than e.g. on a friday, that's all.

Agreed, congrats on the retirement 25ish years left for me.

Massive respect for anyone who works in the NHS.

Retired a few years ago, ex-RAF, ex a lot of things really, days go by so fast now, never enough time to do the things I want to, and little enough cash to spare to enjoy them. But, I am enjoying life finally. Well Done Marak, you made a choice and I hope it stays good m8.

Happy retirement, and I love it. I love putting random crap on forms like that, especially when they ask silly questions about why your leaving. When I filled out mine for the Marine Corps, I put something along the lines of "The hamsters inside my powie boom shooter, are arguing too much about the lemmings." The retention specialist was not amused, I was proud of it though.
